she's right....you have to get your masters in a field related to what you teach. So if I got my masters, it would need to be in math, or education

That's crap. Getting another history degree would pretty much chain me to teaching for life.

I had gotten the teaching assistant job and worked that for about four months but since January, I've been teaching Foods and Nutrition and Advanced FoodsIt's fun but challenging!

Good Job.New math test this year so our scores are down. But compared to the other schools in the county, we decreased the same amount other schools did.Now I am teaching AFM and a Geometry class. The only reason why I am teaching AFM instead of EOC courses is because the school is getting me ready to teach IB classes next year. We just had a teacher quit, so once again I will be picking up a 4th class and it will be Alg 1.I am also going to the Math Dept. Chair next year and cosponser of the Academic Team.

^^ Congrats.I got the AP classes (all two of them ) because our current AP teacher is quitting, too. Hooray for teachers quitting!I hear the Geometry EOC is hell. I think my school's passing rates were in the teens.

The new Geometry EOC is really f'n hard. Some of the problems the EOC expects the students to be able to do require a lot of upper level thinking. Some problems I wouldn't even touch until Pre-Calculus. Also they raised the "bar" and a student now has to make an 81 to get a level 3. If they had used the same scale as last year I would have had 50% of my students pass which is definately better than what the school is used to. The Alg 1 and Alg 2 EOCs aren't fun either. I have Alg 1 and Alg 2 teachers coming to me before or afterschool to get help on some of these problems.

I had 97% of my students score 3 and 4s last semester (about 90% of those were 4s) on my EOC.I had 62 students take it.not bad for my first semester teachingwoot

^What EOC?I'm looking forward to being in a school where I can get high numbers in US History. Last year all the US History students (standard, honors, and AP) at my school averaged 19% passing. To the best of my knowledge we didn't have a single 4.I mean... crap. They didn't have bad teachers, either. They're coaches, but they did just fine in their previous schools. It pisses me off so much when I meet teachers from Broughton or Jordan or some other school like that tell me that they score >80% by just assigning bookwork . I got 52% passing with two 4's, but that's not exactly a number I want to put on my resume. I'll have to say something like "increased scores by over 270%"

Agriscience Applications (Animal Science, Biotechnology, Horticulture, Ag Mechanics, Environmental Science, etc..)and i'm at Jordan but i rarely assign bookwork .. Ag is a lot of hands on activities and labs. Right now we're in the greenhouse every day and they're applying what they've learned in the classroom. Nothing beats The Animal Science classes usually score 99 or 100% proficient.

my two semesters I taught, I had 100% pass-rate and I still got hosed because I was lateral entry with a bunch of licensed teachers not getting the same scores.
3/26/2007 8:14:14 AM
190% of my students passed their EOC's.

nashattack, was it tough finding a job doing lateral entry? I am in the process of trying to do that now so any info or tips would be great.

in Johnston County, you are a shoe-in. They actually have their own Lateral Entry program that is great. I'd look into that if you could. I commuted everyday from NCSU to Clayton High. ~20 min.in Wake County, obviously it will be a lot more difficult because of the competition. All I can say is keep up with their website (http://www.wcpss.net/HumanResources/hrjobs.html) and if one comes up, then hand deliver your resume. I got a job offer from Cary High but turned it down because I found a different job.

Come to Cumberland County.Apparently we'll take you if you can fog a mirror.
