4/16/2006 12:15:51 AM
They're readily available online.
4/16/2006 12:17:54 AM
i hear ya. i think i've seen them in the MoMa store in Manhattan, as well as Halcyon (a vinyl store in Dumbo), and some random skater-ish stores might carry them, probably (as with all electronics these days) the best way to get them is online.-ZiP!-[Edited on April 16, 2006 at 12:18 AM. Reason : ]

Not to be a Contrary McGee or anything, but there are plenty of things, niche products and whatever, that, even online, are hard to find. What I'm getting at is that Amazon sells this shit.

Some photos I took at the Red and White game and the NCSu/ECU baseball game the other day. All images belong to NCSU media.Of course they are all DRASTICALLY resized.
4/16/2006 12:56:38 AM
i want the 10.5mm DX nikkor lense... 180 degrees of viewing... mmmmmmmnight shots... depends on what you are going for... i guess... the noct is obviously made for night shots but it is hella expensive. not something you can just walk up to a store and buy.it all depends....

When I pay off all my credit card debt, I'm going to try to take out a loan for 6-7k and buy some gear I'd be happy with.Canon 30D+battery grip = 150024-70 f/2.8L = 120070-200 f/2.8L = 15002 580ex Flashes = 400 eachGitzo monopod and tripod = 500-70065mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo = 8001.4 EX teleconverter = 400*sigh*

step 1: start "Ronny's wedding and event photos"step 2: claim equipment as Business Expensestep 3: step 4: profit
4/16/2006 1:11:04 AM
3 questions for Ronny:1) why exactly do you need 2 flashes? so you can take stuff really fast? or so that you can bounce light with one of them?2) how's a tripod or monopod gonna be $500? why so much?3) what's the purpose of teleconverters? to flatten the depth of field?-ZiP!-
4/16/2006 1:14:23 AM
Ill answer, I suppose. The more flashes the better and more creative lighting scenarios you can create. Have one right and one left of the camera for example.Tripods can easily cost a fortune to get something truely stable. The more exspenive L series lenses contain a lot of glass elements and metal and are very heavy. Many tripods in the upper level do not come with the head so you'll have purchase that extra. I have a Bogen tripod and two heads for it.Teleconverters simlpy extend the focal length of the lens you have (assuming it is compatible with your specific lens). Canon makes a 1.4x and 2.0x, and many sports and wildlife shooters can opt for something like this as a bridge to a massive zoom (400mm with 2x = 800mm). Teleconverters reduce overall sharpness and light efficiency though, which can be a negative. My current camera/lens combo is:Canon 5D withCanon 17-40LCanon 24-70LCanon 75-300ISCanon 50mm f/1.8Sigma 28mmMy next lens will be the Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS to replace my softer 75-300.Before I had the 5D I owned a 20D.
4/16/2006 1:39:33 AM
^ah awesome, thankssomeone also just IMed me saying that wireless flashes can trigger each other, which sounds pretty crazysounds like a great setup you've got there. interesting that you've got a sigma, i'm hesitant about em.interesting about the teleconverter, sounds like something i wouldn't need anytime soon-ZiP!-
4/16/2006 1:52:54 AM
sigma is a good company too... i'd like to stick to nikkor lenses... but you can get a good sigma... and it'll be an awesome addition with some price subtraction
4/16/2006 2:14:53 AM
hahaprice subtractionALWAYS a good thing-ZiP!-
4/16/2006 2:16:20 AM
Yeah, Flash pretty much answered your questions for me. One could easily spend over a grand on a single tripod/ballhead.

^^ Why is that surprising?
4/20/2006 12:46:31 AM
^^i guess you would say the ED glass nikkor lenses i guess.but we don't really have a "higher series" like that.^and they aren't very common for our age bracket... sooo... its a bit surprising i guess...[Edited on April 20, 2006 at 12:51 AM. Reason : ya know?]

For either manufacturer, what's a good quality first lens that you would recommend? (maybe < $1000 or mid range )
4/20/2006 1:20:37 AM
depends on what you are shooting
