absolutely. i've started to just not really care as much.

i hear ya. i think i've seen them in the MoMa store in Manhattan, as well as Halcyon (a vinyl store in Dumbo), and some random skater-ish stores might carry them, probably (as with all electronics these days) the best way to get them is online.

night shots... depends on what you are going for... i guess... the noct is obviously made for night shots but it is hella expensive. not something you can just walk up to a store and buy.

If it was Canon, I'd be able to tell you. However, for night stuff, go with the lowest f# you can get. Portraits, usually get the best glass you can afford (reviews will usually talk about how sharp a lens is, so buy the sharpest), for sharp zooms, once again, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L is the standard. It is an amazing lens. I am not sure if anything Nikon makes compares to Canon's L lenses.

1) why exactly do you need 2 flashes? so you can take stuff really fast? or so that you can bounce light with one of them?

Ill answer, I suppose. The more flashes the better and more creative lighting scenarios you can create. Have one right and one left of the camera for example.

Tripods can easily cost a fortune to get something truely stable. The more exspenive L series lenses contain a lot of glass elements and metal and are very heavy. Many tripods in the upper level do not come with the head so you'll have purchase that extra. I have a Bogen tripod and two heads for it.

Teleconverters simlpy extend the focal length of the lens you have (assuming it is compatible with your specific lens). Canon makes a 1.4x and 2.0x, and many sports and wildlife shooters can opt for something like this as a bridge to a massive zoom (400mm with 2x = 800mm). Teleconverters reduce overall sharpness and light efficiency though, which can be a negative.

My current camera/lens combo is:

Canon 5D with
Canon 17-40L
Canon 24-70L
Canon 75-300IS
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Sigma 28mm

My next lens will be the Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS to replace my softer 75-300.

Before I had the 5D I owned a 20D.

For a Canon, you're best off to scrape up the extra 200 bucks and buy a 24-70. Pretty much the standard walkaround lens for pros. It'll be the next lens I buy.
