"...if a society has not developed beyond a point at which the satisfaction of one group of its members depends upon the suppression of another, it is understandable that those suppressed should develop an intense hostility towards a culture whose existence their labour has made possible, but in whose riches they have too small a share."-Terry Eagleton, on Freud"It goes without saying that a civilization which leaves so large a number of its participants unsatisfied and drives them into revolt neither has nor deserves the prospect of a lasting existence."-Sigmund Freud, The Future of an Illusion

I love when I'm called an oppressor, because I have the time and energy to oppress people.what with my school and job and having a life, oppression is the main focal point in my life this whole racial thing is a load of crap. I don't judge people by their skin, I judge them by their stupidity. If you're acting like a dumbass, you're a dumbass. plain and simple.
2/26/2006 8:18:49 PM
yeah, but dude, you're ignoring the big picture.just kidding, you're not really.
2/26/2006 8:24:52 PM
well he is ignoring that EVERYONE has some racial/gender biases. you know some racist thought has gone through your head at least once when you see a "bad example of a race." i mean if someone is playing the stereotype you cant help but think it sometimes.that doesnt make you a bad person, though it really shouldnt happen. what do we expect with the way we DO stereotype things though. shrug, im happy as long as ppl dont act on this shit 99.99% of the time.
2/26/2006 8:27:01 PM
^I disagree. The human brain does use categories (stereotypes) in order to store information, but that doesn't mean we're all racist. Are all of us prejudiced? Yes. Are all of us racists? No.

Here goes another 5 pages.

I think it's going to be tough to argue with Brid's last point, actually.
2/26/2006 9:34:17 PM
except that she basically said the same thing i did, except in a way that inferred i said everyone was racist.im just saying that you're gonna think about it. does that make you a racist...no, and even if you are im plenty happy with you keeping it to yourself and not acting on it.
2/26/2006 10:37:04 PM

Just agree that there will always be a certain level of stereotyping good or bad with every different type of anything, not just people.

2/27/2006 7:12:17 AM
^ i see what you did there
2/27/2006 10:03:52 PM
alright bridget, please to facillitate my limited-learning abilities. cuz i still dont see your point.i said we all have race/gender biases because of the stereotyping we do internally. add to that, we shove this crap down peoples throats every day and they acknowledge it, conciously or otherwise. my assertion was that these come to play during our daily lives whether we actually beleive them (or act on them) or not. so:1) what about my statements is "limited"2) what makes you any more credible3) what makes the quoted part bullshitsounds like you are arguing fucking semantics with me, which is dumb at best.[Edited on February 27, 2006 at 11:25 PM. Reason : cuz ur acting like prejudism and racism are leagues apart.]
2/27/2006 11:23:28 PM

You're full of shit. They are not "leagues apart". Racism is a form of prejudice. Here's an example of prejudice:BridgetSPK:
3/5/2006 7:29:11 PM
my skin color has nothing to do with my religion
3/5/2006 7:41:47 PM
^^ People CHOOSE their religion.
3/5/2006 7:43:30 PM
People choose their religion about as much as they choose their nationality. Which is to say, they are born into it more often than not. And besides, the point is not that religious prejudices are exacly the same as racism. The point is that racism is just a form of prejudice like any other.
3/5/2006 7:55:25 PM
people choose to be gay, and people choose to be cowboys, but only fate can bring them together.
3/5/2006 8:58:13 PM
Racism is a form of prejudice, but prejudice is not necessarily racism. Prejudice is often caused by ignorance, but when it's caused by malice, then it's racism.
3/5/2006 9:00:51 PM
hahahaa
3/5/2006 9:04:11 PM
im glad someone else agrees with me, cuz it boggles my mind. she acts like im riding her nutz when she's the one who has historically had to explain her wild ass assertions.all i ask is that my opinions not be misconstrued which it seems like you did. where did i say everyone was racist? how is what i said different than saying ppl are prejudiced?
3/5/2006 9:32:19 PM
i've decided to form strong sterotypes about people based on single occurances.right now, i think chinese people smell like sawdust
3/5/2006 10:34:47 PM
you're not racist, you're ignorant.
3/5/2006 10:48:03 PM
All the white people i know smell like whisky and cigarettes.
3/11/2006 12:24:34 AM
white people are great at basketball
3/11/2006 4:24:48 PM
real white people can't be coservative republicans.
3/11/2006 6:24:43 PM
I think the article makes good points about their being double standards for how blacks and whites of how blacks are able to get a day to get a black history books. But on the other hand, not many blacks ho contributed greatly to our society do not get regconize in the history books, perhaps because history classes are given very little time to cover so much history. I don't think a good segment of the black population shares this view that the black community feels that the white community owes us something for slavery. I certainly don't believe the white community owes us anything because this generation of black people have not endure constant discrimination by ridiculous laws for our opportunities are as wide as the Universe itself. I do think the history of given credit to scientists is very very very Eurocentric and should be changed immediately. Discoveries and contributions made in the natural sciences and philosophies are barely mentioned non-Greek and non-European cultures . Some of the discoveries made by Galileo and Newton were in fact found found within other cultures such as Newton's Theory on Light years ago in Indian communities. A lot of the Greeks were educated in Ancient egypt. Some might even deduce that Some of of the European scientists made have even plagarized some of their work from other cultures. But I am not pointing any fingers. I just want the history books to give proper regconize to all cultures who contributed something to physics, geology, biology and so on. Science and philosophy is shared by every worldwide culture.

Dude^, I THINK I agree with some of your points, but spell/grammar check, please.
