^^ you do realize that slippery slope is a logical fallacy? No half-baked, nebulous rhetoric is going to change the fact that the feds haven't taken over even when there have been much better opportunities to do so.Furthermore, your childish ivory tower analysis does not even attempt to address the (significant) forces that naturally work against any great disruption of the fed-state power balance. Real life isn't some movie where the big bad federal government can flood the streets with troops over night and take over. (geez, they cant even get troops to the right state)

Declaring a state of emergency is different than declaring a mandatory evacuation. When there's been a state of emergency in NC, was Raleigh told to mandatorily evacuate? No. I didn't think so.It wasn't until the morning of the 28th that Hurricane Katrina was upgraded to a category 4 hurricane, at which time Nagin called for the mandatory evacuation:

i dont think aaron was saying that he'd rather drown by his refrigerator than go to the superdome..... he was trying to show that the area was unprepared for the hurricane, on the local level

It was a mandatory evacuation. Officials weren't going to use resources to stock the refrigerators @ the Superdome in a 24 hour time period.I give this thread a "Mission Accomplished".
