as much as i've tried i just cant get into DT and in flames, or at least as much as everyone else seems to be. i guess the gothenburg sound just doesnt do it for me as far as creativity goes. i have DT's "damage done" and "character" and most of in flames' albums (not the last one), and they're decent.. old in flames is pretty good, but it's just not anything that special in my opinion...if i'm gonna listen to melodic death, i'm gonna listen to arsis et. al.[Edited on April 19, 2005 at 7:19 PM. I'm going to reiterate...anyone who's even mildly a fan of Children of Bodom MUST check out Kalmah. Antti Kokko is underrated and every bit as good as Alexi Laiho, in my opinion. They never got very big and I don't understand why

4/20/2005 5:33:02 PM
cdeez, they were on no idea records, and you can order their stuff from http://www.noidearecords.com. the guitar player/singer started a new band that's very similar called torche who are about to release something on robotic empire records (http://www.roboticempire.com). both are great bands.fuckshit, baroness is playing at my house on the 29th of this month with kylesa(ex-damad, used to be on prank records, fucking brutal sick), d'amore(philly three piece hardcore emo), and towers (like older isis sped up). 8:00 pm. six bucks. 2211 everett avenue. it's across from the harris teeter in cameron village. i'll be running around drunk and will probably get arrested. so the story goes. come out and meet me.

what kind of music are they? (alol and ion diss.)
4/26/2005 10:50:22 AM
ion dissonance and alol are insane...that's the kind of shit you blast when you want people to leave you the hell alone they might be a little too close to the hardcore-style (production- and riffage-wise) for me to get too heavily into them, but i definitely like their respective sounds 100x more than any hardcore i've ever heard. chaos, but with balls (which is what puts them above hardcore, IMHO)[Edited on April 26, 2005 at 2:12 PM. 4/26/2005 11:13:57 PM
i mentioned this in one of my other threads.a life once lost is complete shit. they are a complete rip-off of meshuggah and lamb of god. the worst part is they suck at it. honestly, this band does not need to be mentioned.
4/28/2005 3:14:35 AM
^listen to "open your mouth for the speechless"...they sound nothing like Meshuggah on that...I think they are great...or well, you wouldn't like it anyway but whateverin regards to the Charlotte comments, I don't really care what people think because we get all the damn shows here. (along with Ziggy's and Brew Ha Ha's) I have many many friends in Charlotte who are not assholes, but I have a few that are. Whatever, I could care less about the "scene" aspects of a given city, all that matters is whether there are worthwhile shows to attend...and there are.Winston-Salem and Greensboro have some serious fucking assholes/pussies too...those kinds of people are everywhere.
4/28/2005 3:39:27 AM
i didnt get that at all...if they're honestly influenced but meshuggah, they misssssssed. i was thinking more DEP
4/28/2005 3:39:43 AM
^they definitely are reminiscent of Meshuggah...but how is that a bad thing?
4/28/2005 3:49:08 AM
being influenced by meshuggah is not a bad thing in the least (now trying to copy them would be)...but i just dont think they sound too much like meshuggah. i mean they do use funky time sigs and a lot of time-dynamics, but to say that that alone is meshuggah-like is kindof a stretch. i'm not saying ion diss. isn't, i haven't listened to them long enough to get a feel for their creative minds...but the minds behind meshuggah are pure trained, mathematical madness that i don't think can be easily modeled.

MetalRed tipped me off to Kamelot's new album, and i've been loving it.also in the power metal vein, has anyone else heard Wuthering Heights? i'd never heard of them but picked up an album of theirs called Far From the Madding Crowd, and it's pretty hot.other than that, has anyone heard much about Tristania's new album, Ashes? is it good? Beyond the Veil is one of my favorite metal albums, just curious how it compares.
