Well, getting a transfer won't count for this coming class, according to your logic (if we're counting dorn as being part of the class with Smith)
2/26/2016 1:23:12 PM
True, unless it's a grad student
2/26/2016 1:41:57 PM
Getting guys who will be here for 2 years isn't exactly the recipe for building a good program with continuity and chemistry, but i guess it could work if most of the guys are ralston turners and damien lees.
2/26/2016 1:48:17 PM
I mean, we're in the one-and-done era. Getting DSJ for 1 year is great and wouldn't be possible in the pre-2004 era when kids could go straight from HS to the NBA. I'd rather have DSJ for 1 year than somebody like Farnold or Javi for 4 yearsMaybe Gott should lie his ass off like Roy does, and tell likely lottery picks that their stock can only go up![Edited on February 26, 2016 at 2:27 PM. The only way your stock can't "only go up" is if you are some sort of overrated fraud, or aren't interested in working hard to improve. Either way, you're not going to have a great career in the NBA so you might as well take all of the elite basketball and academic training you can get.[Edited on February 26, 2016 at 3:07 PM. If you were told you were a top-5 lottery pick, you are going to think you're hot shit and not have the "want" to improve or chip on your shoulder that other players have. It's basic human nature and isn't very hard to understand.

Great so 1-2 scholarships are tied up for transfer players. Still no reason why in the past 10 years we've not had more than 2 contributing seniors on the roster AND have had depth issues many seasons. Use up the scholarships I don't get who we are saving them for? Land the one big fish in each class we get then put development guys around them. The fact we can get the top end guys like Cat and DSJ plus transfers and athletes like Kirk should be a decent formula to mix top recruits with guys who have potential. I just hope that this class isn't just DSJ and then nothing else or a transfer.

Not that it matters for us but Alkins is announcing today
3/7/2016 10:19:44 AM
Are we not on his list?
3/7/2016 10:48:25 AM
3/7/2016 10:57:09 AM
think his top 3 is unlv, st johns, arizona[Edited on March 7, 2016 at 10:58 AM. Reason : ^what he said]
3/7/2016 10:57:47 AM
is he over 6'8? then i don't care.
3/7/2016 12:02:58 PM
Rumors on PP that Tyler Cavanaugh(former WF player) is on the list of possible graduate transfers. That would be huge for us. He's 6-10 and makes free throws and 3's.
3/7/2016 1:00:30 PM
Would help stretch the defense which is the main key. We need better 3 point shooters next year.
3/7/2016 4:20:52 PM
We should be fine from 3 next year, basically because Caleb won't be taking as many of them. What we really need is a big man who can operate and shoot from 15 feet.
3/7/2016 5:08:36 PM
If we'd landed Bam I think we might have had a shot at Alkins, but as much as he would've helped - we desperately need a big man. Maybe even two with Freeman's injury, a grad transfer and an incoming freshman would be ideal.
3/7/2016 10:46:55 PM
i doubt freeman will stick around with the benefits package enterprise is ready to offer him.
3/7/2016 11:34:04 PM
Gott is worthless if he can't convince him that one more year could help him land a gig at Avis or Hertz
3/8/2016 12:33:10 AM
I herd there is a chance Cat Daddy is staying if not guaranteed 1st round. Any truth?
3/8/2016 9:14:58 AM
Hope mongering first post with false rumors
3/8/2016 11:57:18 AM
^^i mean...i'm sure there's a chance he comes back. but i'd say it's more likely than not that he's gone.[Edited on March 8, 2016 at 12:02 PM. Reason : he said he was gonna "test the waters" yesterday]

3/8/2016 1:32:06 PM
Hypothetical questionIf Cat came back next year and played the 2, would we arguably have the best backcourt in the nation?
3/8/2016 1:43:46 PM
What if we hypothetically had a different coach
3/8/2016 1:44:26 PM
3/8/2016 3:09:08 PM
since when is a small forward part of the backcourt
3/8/2016 3:26:21 PM
^ i was wondering the same
3/8/2016 3:33:26 PM
I'd say on paper that we'd have the best backcourt in the ACC for sure, not sure about the nation. Really depends on how DSJr bounces back from injury. Also, I'd be surprised to see Rowan start over Henderson at the 3 next year.
3/8/2016 3:38:17 PM
Look, Rowan is a SG. He's not a forward. But this whole situation is based on something that in all likelihood isn't happening. How about we discuss the year after next when we'll have cat (who'll redshirt next year), Smith and Ben Simmons (who'll transfer here)?
3/8/2016 4:08:59 PM
FOH mane
3/8/2016 4:13:52 PM
Rowan is a 3.
3/8/2016 4:21:33 PM
I don't care if he's a 2 or a 3, he wouldn't be starting at the SG spot over Cat so he wouldn't be in the backcourt.
3/8/2016 5:17:25 PM
or henderson, or dorn, or dsj[Edited on March 8, 2016 at 5:34 PM. Reason : although you already have DSJ at PG][Edited on March 8, 2016 at 5:37 PM. Reason : but I'd play Caleb over him too]
3/8/2016 5:34:27 PM
In the rowan thread i said i could see him transferring mainly because of all the people that will be playing in front of him next year. Kids take loss of PT quite personally. Look at washington and lewis
3/8/2016 7:08:55 PM
Lewis sat out a year and went from averaging 19.9 minutes as a freshman at State to a whopping 20.4 minutes per game as a junior at Butler. So the grass isn't always greener for the player.]
3/8/2016 7:41:24 PM
I guess Gott HAS to play dsj at point and maybe HAS to start him, for recruiting purposes, but are we really encouraging him to take a first team acc PG and move him to SG?Edit ^^that would suck but I really don't want coaches just giving PT to keep someone happy. Play the best player. [Edited on March 8, 2016 at 7:56 PM. Reason : A]
3/8/2016 7:54:43 PM
^^ i agree with you. Just saying there is always a risk when significantly decreasing a player's PT
3/8/2016 7:56:07 PM
i heard we're going after a late commit center out of PA. it would be nice to pick up another big man. i really hope this abortion of a season doesn't affect our ability to pull quality recruits.
3/8/2016 8:02:53 PM
Dembele? We offered him like a month ago.
3/8/2016 8:26:18 PM
At this point you're either taking late-blooming project players or transfers. Definitely need a big man after this year. Also, how many times has the #1 PG committed early and NOT brought any other players with him? Wondering if the injury didn't hurt him recruiting for us.
3/8/2016 9:09:26 PM
It is strange. Apparently lots of the guys love him but the problem is that all of his friends chose high profile programs
3/8/2016 9:17:18 PM
After the big win today Gottfried needs to be blowing up some phones tonight and reeling in some big fish.
3/8/2016 10:57:25 PM
Hell yeah we'll probably see the effects of the win over WF in the loser bracket for years to come
3/9/2016 7:08:32 AM
3/9/2016 7:52:20 AM
Wouldn't it be nice if Rowan grew a couple inches and put on a few pounds, then we could move him to the four and we have our big man that can shoot!
3/9/2016 8:17:45 AM
If DSJr is 100% when the season starts, he'll be starting at PG, whether Cat is here or not. No offense to Cat, but you're talking about a guy who would be a lottery pick THIS YEAR if he could go straight out of high school.Barber is a great scorer, he can move to the 2 and we'll have 2 good ball handlers. Would be interesting to see if Cat could actually create for himself without the ball in his hands.
3/9/2016 9:07:23 AM
^yep. i don't think it should be viewed as Cat taking a backseat to DSJ (again - in the very unlikely event Cat stays)...it's more about putting your best 5 players on the court and having a dynamic backcourt with multiple ball handlers and scorers. but then, that begs the question - what would Cat even gain by coming back and playing fewer minutes, scoring less, etc? it'd be all about Cat wanting to play in the tourney and/or play with DSJ, because it's hard to imagine Cat's stock increasing by him having a smaller role on next year's team.[Edited on March 9, 2016 at 9:20 AM.
