Democrats Thought They Bottomed Out in Rural, White America. It Wasn’t the Bottom.https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/06/us/rural-vote-democrats-virginia.html?searchResultPosition=1

Does the liberal media ever run columns about how the Republicans can't reach cities or black people? Or just endless scribes about how white rural people are worried dems won't do enough to keep brown people out?

If I were a major figure in a party claiming to be working to limit and reduce climate change as a major part of my party's platform, I would maybe not make myself the centerpiece of an oil heiress' wedding. But that's me.
11/10/2021 6:29:16 PM
hes not a major figure
11/11/2021 2:08:16 PM
Who?
11/11/2021 2:12:32 PM

I did not. Gavin Newsome sucks too though. Also not sure how the democratic governor of the nation's largest state isn't a major figure.
11/11/2021 3:22:38 PM
newsom was there too. Yikes, i didnt know about pelosi.
11/11/2021 4:46:27 PM

What am I missing as to why people including Bernie are pushing a SALT cap increase?? Seems like a tax cut for rich people?

I've wondered the same here.

Index funds are better anyway. Unless you trade on insider information with impunity.
12/15/2021 4:27:39 PM
This is probably me wildly missing your point so I apologize in advance but: they do
12/15/2021 4:41:52 PM
Yes, I know! The only argument for wanting to trade individual stocks is if you have information the market writ large is not privy to. They're basically admitting to insider trading. Otherwise, boring buy-and-hold cheap index funds yield superior results.]

12/15/2021 7:18:16 PM
It's a beautiful thing!
12/15/2021 8:38:59 PM
Aren't there other roles where people are prevented from owning individual stocks? I feel like several of my friends who are in certain investment banking and commercial banking roles aren't allowed to do it.If that's how they feel, then Nancy should put on the table to allow bankers to be able to trade with impunity ... but she of course wouldn't.Also this will sound like bullshit but isn't. I was at a party last weekend and this guy casually told me a story about downtown condos he bought dirt cheap in 2008/9 because a buddy of his was (is?) a state senator and got wind of development. He put in $15K and some GC services and his senator buddy put in 40/50K, totalling around $100K investment on each condo. Now each is worth about $400K. I share this story for two reasons. 1) To show how even local politicians make a buck off insider info and 2) to show that even outside of stocks these people have other ways to make incredible gains, so shocking they're unwilling to take the L on stock legislation even though they can still be corrupt.[Edited on December 16, 2021 at 9:21 AM. Reason : .]

These people are privy to market moving information. They could still make a killing with broad market and sector specific funds.Pelosi's attitude is very frustrating to someone who has had to complete financial disclosures for a relatively trivial position with no access to inside information.

Yikes. Between Biden, main governor, lori lightfoot, and NYC Mayor now, democrats are just mid 2000s republicans, but GOP is branding them as leftwing extremists.

Things took a turn during the fourth quarter of last year, although the trend appears to have started even earlier than that.https://news.gallup.com/poll/388781/political-party-preferences-shifted-greatly-during-2021.aspxOne caveat, however:

Net is this is a crucial series of activities that should be funded. But they should be funded as part of the annual budgetary (or reconciliation) process rather than ad hoc. Much of the money from the other bills hasn't been spent, but lies in the hands of governors who aren't keen on returning it. I understand why republicans would request that outstanding billions issued is all spent or repurposed for this line item before funding more initiatives.
