Mad men is a poor example of spoilers in a 'next week on' segment. Shit is random scenes that make no sense. But I digress.

This week's episode made me realize that Cersei is a young, Westerosi Lucille Bluth.

New characters to be introduced for the 3rd season: (obviously don't read if you don't want to know about upcoming characters)

finally watched the episode last night as I was out sunday night and missed it. gotta say Tyrion was absolutely fantastic. he reminded me of William Wallace in Braveheart with his speech and the heart of it. basically telling the soldiers to fight for themselves and their city and to fuck the king. loved it! i really hope that slice in his face isn't life threatening, was hard to tell since he was in shock and seemed to start blacking out.i think Sansa will end up going with the hound; there is nothing in KL to keep her there and it's a perfect opportunity to escape the clutches of the Lannisters, esp Cersei and her dirty tricks.

the "anyone who dies with no blood on your sword" line...favorite action quote of all time
5/30/2012 9:51:06 AM
same here...everything Sandor said and did in this episode was mega-awesome both from a character and actor standpoint.

There is not a more perfect cast for the Queen of Thorns. Don't even try. Also Brendon Gleeson probably needs to be Tormund Giant's Bane.[Edited on May 30, 2012 at 10:13 AM. Reason : Holy image size Batman.]

Perfect:

^3 "Any of those flaming fucking arrows come near me, I'll strangle you with your own guts!"Also, the actor's combination of anger, resignation, and the subtlest touch of total fear when The Hound deserted the battle was played absolutely perfectly. Despite that there are a few bad apples, this is probably the most well-acted show on television, fantasy or otherwise.[Edited on May 30, 2012 at 11:40 AM. Reason : g]

Agreed. I definitely agree there are a few of the actors/actresses that are sub-par but given the circumstances like the cast being so large, the show gets a pass from me for these few bad apples because the overwhelming majority is acted and portrayed as good as I could hope for. It's easy to nitpick any show and there is a lot of stuff that people can find to complain about (myself included there) or cause some people to grimace but the fact of the matter is that, imo, they are doing a fantastic job given the budget they have, the scope of the show, and the scrutiny the show is under compared to others. I know everything that's going to happen and I'm still glued to the TV every Sunday night in a way that I haven't been since the start of Mad Men or the first season of Dexter probably.

Who do ya'll think is doing a sub-par acting job in the show? Off the top of my head, I don't think Dany's acting is that great, but that's the only one that really stands out. Tyrion's girlfriend/whore is kind of annoying as well. But I also haven't read the books, so I don't know if everyone is accurately portraying their characters.
5/30/2012 1:29:14 PM
I think the acting as a whole is great. The amount of characters who are subpar is very small and, a lot of it probably has to do with the writing or directing for those characters more than the actors (hard to draw the line).Cersei really bugs me at times (mainly early on) but it has improved. And, in this past episode where GRRM wrote it, her character was drastically better. Might not be a coincidence considering her dialogue was much better in this episode and he does great with dialogue. Brienne is a little ham-fisted in the show, but I think part of that just goes along with the character - the portrayal is actually very accurate but the in-the-flesh version of the character is a little cheesier than the book version.Shae really bugs me. Everything with her is so flat. Xaro Xhoan Daxos is disappointing and Dany this season has been very flat and stale as well. And as much as Littlefinger is a great character and Aidan Gillen is a superb actor...something isn't meshing between the two in this show.Once again, it's hard to say where to draw the line between the writing, directing, and acting but in general (including the kids which is rare) the acting has exceeded my expectations so I'm only providing examples because you asked
5/30/2012 1:43:09 PM
^agreed on all accounts. This version of Cersei is hard to watch and it's made me like Lena Headey much less.
5/30/2012 2:02:06 PM
I have such a big crush on Lena Heady that Cersei's character doesn't even effect it. It might even give my infatuation with her a boost...giving her a naughty to side to go along with her lesbian (Imagine Me and You), bad-ass (Terminator), and good queen (300) sides.

Yeah, agree with CalledToArms on the few who don't quite hit the high marks that the rest of the cast do.Off the top of my head, Stephen Dillane, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey (who hasn't been great at times but was fantastic this past Sunday) whoever plays The Hound, and whoever plays Bronn were all really great from an acting standpoint in the most recent episode. Other than Dinklage, I think Dillane might be the best actor on the show, or at least the best at portraying his/her character. He's damn near perfect as Stannis. I loved the scene two episodes ago with him and Davos where he names Davos his potential hand and talks about the animals they ate when defending Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion.

The dude that plays varys does a good job
5/30/2012 3:20:50 PM
in regards to the new characters, I am surprised that Roose Bolton's bastard isnt on that list.
5/30/2012 3:46:27 PM
^ me too, especially since they have referred to him directly in the show via some setup dialogue already. However, I don't know that the list I posted is the entire list it's just what has been released so far.[Edited on May 30, 2012 at 4:13 PM. Reason : ]

I think the dude that plays Joffery is the best at portraying his character, mainly because he looks so punchable
5/30/2012 4:47:05 PM
I dont know what you guys are smoking. I think Cersei is acted quite well.
5/30/2012 5:01:46 PM
Yeah, Ramsay Bolton has to be in the show next season. I'll be shocked if he isn't. Wouldn't make any sense.
5/30/2012 5:02:29 PM
I dunno if this has been posted and it seems like Joffrey's actor's twitter has disappeared but the bio used to be something like, "Irish actor. I'm nicer in real life I swear."
5/30/2012 5:10:37 PM
He should tweet as Joffery. That would be awesome.

I too am confused re the beef between the Hound and Bronn.
5/31/2012 12:25:10 PM
I gather that the Hound is full is self-loathing, and sees Bronn as someone with a similar nature but who is satisfied with life, and so the Hound hates him.
5/31/2012 1:17:26 PM
I don't think The Hound has beef with Bronn specifically. I think The Hound's blood was just up for the upcoming battle. That's the way I read that scene at least.[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 1:18 PM. Reason : g]
5/31/2012 1:17:46 PM
The hound is a tormented soul. He loves to kill because he is filled with hatred and fear after the burning disfigured his face. When the hound says that him and Bronn are the same, he is right in that they both have blood-lust, but for wildly different reasons. Bronn does it for the money, the Hound does it to fill the void within.

I literally watched every episode of this series up to the coming finale in one week, and while I'm excitedly waiting for the next episode, it hurts to know I'll have to wait a whole fucking year for the next season. Is this just how HBO shows are? because one ten-episode season a year seems pretty ridiculous.
5/31/2012 5:39:24 PM
I feel your pain, that's why I read the books after the first season.
5/31/2012 6:40:45 PM
^^ i do that with pretty much all the shows i watch.the solution? watch more than one show.
5/31/2012 6:48:34 PM
^^^ yep. well, normally there are 12 episodes with HBO shows. but there are only 10 of GoT each season because of the production costs.

holy shit, i had no idea bronn was that guy from the british grouphe seems out of place in that band to me now that i really only can picture him in armor
