6/25/2010 5:01:17 PM
I can't stand their ranking system of good/fair.Do they even realize how small the glass and sensors are in these phones? They may be good/fair when compared to DSLRs, but sheesh. Darn good for a phone.

Anyone do any books on tape? Are there any good apps or do you just find torrents or something and listen to them with an audio player
6/25/2010 5:30:04 PM
Used a friend's iPhone 4 today and played around the with camera, ridiculous how much better the camera is on that compared to my moto Droid

^Is the Evo you paid the deposit on going to be on a new Sprint contract? If so, just get it and then return it within 30 days and get all your money back That's probably what I'm doing since those fuckers have been wasting my time for the past 10 days checking the website to see if it's in stock. Then I'll buy the Galaxy whenever it comes out. They should just allow people to order it while it's out-of-stock like Amazon or Dell do.
6/25/2010 11:13:02 PM
or just run away from Sprint and get a Droid X or Droid 2 from Verizon.
6/25/2010 11:14:08 PM
^True, but Verizon is mega$ compared to Sprint, even after the $10 surcharge. Unless you use next to no minutes and don't care about full-discount upgrades every 12 months.
6/25/2010 11:41:49 PM
verizon has annual upgrades just not on granny plans(ex if u got the granny plan u not getting early upgrade)[Edited on June 26, 2010 at 12:13 AM. Reason : fdadfs]
6/26/2010 12:05:51 AM
^Interesting... I had Verizon for years before switching to AT&T for the iPhone. What's considered a "granny plan"? If it's like AT&T with the iPhone (and only with the iPhone, unfortunately), you only get the yearly upgrade when spending over $100 on the primary line, IIRC. Sprint gives it to you when you spend >$69.99 on the primary or >$99.99 on a family plan.
6/26/2010 12:52:23 AM
Verizon provides yearly upgrades if your voice plan is >$79.99

^^^^ & ^^That's awesome! When did they go and do this early upgrade on $49.99/$79.99? Either it was sometime after 2007 or my reps were purposefully holding out on me You guys have made my decision more difficult now. I don't use minutes as much as data, so the extra minutes don't even matter to me on Sprint. I don't really use texts either outside of Google Voice. So the only added benefit I'd have on Sprint vs. Verizon is what? Cheap insurance & SprintTV? WTF is SprintTV anyway?[Edited on June 26, 2010 at 12:44 PM. Reason : ;]
6/26/2010 12:41:11 PM
not sure but it's been at least a couple years. I believe their VIP program had it also which was plans 79.99 or more but they canned that program this past February.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Droid Incredible available for a bit after launch? Or has it been out of stock with no shipments since then? Because other than for a short 4-5 hour window at the beginning of last week, Sprint has been out of stock on the Evo since I think the day after launch. At least Verizon has the Droid X coming. Sprint's got shit unless their version of the Galaxy launches on the rumored date that T-Mobile is launching it (July 21), which seems highly unlikely, especially given that their version has the hardware keyboard, which isn't available on any other version thus far. From what I've read, the Evo is HTC's fourth phone in a row with supply issues. They seem to design great phones, but don't seem to be run that well otherwise.I'd just go with the Droid X based on what you guys have said about upgrade intervals, but no front-facing camera is bothering me. Then again, none of these Android phones seems to have the complete package. Evo has great screen and nice design, but has pretty terrible framerates as seen in the video comparison above with the Droid X and the Nexus using the JIT on Froyo; it also doesn't have a Super-AMOLED screen. Samsung Galaxy has S-AMOLED and the Hummingbird processor, but no flash. Droid X has good GPU, hardware keyboard, but no front-facing-camera. It's also even heavier than the Evo, which is already pushing it, at least to me. I honestly wish they'd get iPhone 4 to run 2.1 or 2.2 and soon (i.e. before it's surpassed probably come Christmas by some as-yet-unannounced phone that has all the best features). I'd buy an unlocked one and be done with it. I always use a case with my phones, so I wouldn't have to worry about my hand attenuating the signal either [Edited on June 26, 2010 at 9:46 PM. 6/27/2010 7:06:02 PM
rumor is that AT&T might pick up the Moto Flipout.another phone that isn't even as powerful as the droid with a weird form factor.2.8" screen, keyboard flips around, 600MHz TI OMAP, 512MB RAM, Android 2.1 with BlurThe version of blur >>> the one on the backflip/clix but doesn't make it worth buying. If AT&T didn't pick up the Desire for whatever reason and they pick up this...
6/27/2010 7:41:47 PM
They dont want TOO much competition with the iPhone, just enough to say they "carry Android, too!"
6/27/2010 8:11:50 PM
6/27/2010 8:33:03 PM
Phones like the Aria (a nice mid-range phone) and the Captivate (potential superphone) made me optimistic about the direction AT&T's android plans were going. I'd like them to get more motorola phones, but I'd like them to be more like the droid and droid x than the backflip and flipout

I put in my preorder for the Droid X yesterday. First at the store at White Oak (not really surprising). At first I was glad that I didn't have to deal with the $100 MIR from Verizon but now I have to keep track of this $50 bby gift card instead.
6/27/2010 8:56:13 PM
called the closest verizon store today and they aren't taking preorders for the droid x. it better not sell out on the 15th.
6/27/2010 10:27:29 PM
Why not just preorder it at Best Buy like I did?
6/27/2010 11:07:54 PM
just fyi, most independent verizon retailers can match internet pricing w/o any mail in rebates. might take a little longer for them to get stock though.
6/27/2010 11:22:25 PM
^^ i didn't know best buy stores were also verizon dealers or whatever, although i guess that'd make sense since it's the phone is exclusive to verizon.

http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/25/droid-x-pre-sale-starts-today-at-best-buy/Preorders started on Friday and I was the first one at my store on Saturday late afternoon. You can get pretty much anything at Best Buy, they even sell Apple shit.

Samsung Intercept (Moment 2) hits Sprint July 11-same specs as the original Moment. Only difference I see is a bigger keyboard and a new Pink model...wth?
6/28/2010 8:35:49 AM
do you have to GO to BBY to preorder or can you do it online via their website?
6/28/2010 9:57:46 AM
and do you just pick the thing up from best buy and take it over to verizon, or would the people at best buy be able to make changes to your contract and what not?
6/28/2010 10:15:08 AM
my evo is back to sucking down 10%+ per hour with minimal/no use. i'm installing this app called juiceplotter which produces graphs like this:more info on evo batteries:http://androidforums.com/tips-tricks-evo-4g/89161-official-htc-evo-4g-battery-thread.html

How much data syncing do you do? If change the way your phone is allowed to sync data your battery life should increase a LOT. I told my phone it isn't allowed to sync data in the background if the phone is inactive more than 10 minutes, and doing that and just checking my phone when I'm not busy allows me to get all day with ~1-2 hours of streaming pandora, and plenty of leisure browsing and motoblur syncing my social networks when I feel like browsing those.

yeah, best buy has their own mobile department that can activate and all that good stuff
