If republicans are really serious about "preserving the life of the unborn" why do we have problems like this in NC with a GOP supermajority.

http://abc11.com/health/i-team-pregnant-moms-and-babies-waiting-for-medicaid-approval/392367/

Quote :
"Gaston said she feels like the backlog in the Medicaid system caused her to lose her child.

Her story started in October, 2013 when she found out she was pregnant. As a single working mom, she applied for Medicaid so she could get prenatal care for herself and her unborn baby.

She was told the process would take 30-45 days.

"I started to worry in December, and that's when I called around to my case worker and asked her what I need to do. When do I receive a letter?" Gaston said. "We're backed up, all they kept saying is we're backed up. And I said I understand, but I'm pregnant. I really need to be seen by a doctor."

Gaston was considered high risk because she had a history of preeclampsia with her previous pregnancies and delivered her first child at 28 weeks.

She continued to check with Cumberland County Social Services.

"I kept calling, and calling repeatedly, and all I kept getting is we're backed up, you're going to have to wait," Gaston said.

The wait continued and at five months pregnant, Gaston went to the health department and demanded to see a doctor, although she had yet to be approved for Medicaid.

They referred her to a doctor, and she finally got her first prenatal appointment.

"The baby's heartbeat, I heard for the first time," she said. "He had a very strong heartbeat, and I was so happy about that."

They scheduled her first ultrasound for just a few days later. But before she could be seen again, she started having problems.

"I was in severe abdominal pain and I couldn't bear it," Gaston said.

Gaston was rushed to the hospital.

"She said, 'I think it's a ruptured placenta,'" Gaston said.

She says the doctor not only was her unborn child's life in danger, but her life was as well. She had to have an emergency C-section.

"She said if you had the proper prenatal care, you could have detected this a long time ago. This just did not happen," Gaston said.

Gaston's son Jeremiah was born at just 23 weeks weighing one pound, seven ounces.

"He was born so early he had hemorrhaging on the left side of his brain. His organs started shutting down," Gaston said.

A day after he was born, Jeremiah passed away.

"With prenatal care, I think my son would have been here," Gaston said.

While she dealt with the horrible loss of a child, she never heard about her Medicaid.

But she did hear from the bill collectors about her thousands of dollars in unpaid medical bills.

"For me, another $15,000," she said.

Six months after she delivered and buried her son, Gaston got her Medicaid approval.

The approval dates back to when she was pregnant.

"I had to bury my son, so yes, it's a very hurtful thing to see you were approved the whole time and you not know," Gaston said.

Despite the approval, Gaston still had problems as she says her bills were still not covered. Gaston reached out to ABC 11 to find out why.

We got in touch with the director of Cumberland County's Social Services. She admits that Gaston's case was part of the Medicaid backlog and was not processed in a timely fashion.

Because they're too busy politicizing the VA backlog.

Why aren't the Democrats making sure that, as a single unwed mother, that she's on an ACA insurance plan that covers prenatal care?

Legit.

On a related note, Justice Ginsburg recently made a very salient point that's stuck with me. She maintains that there is too much precedent at this point for the Court to actually overturn Roe. She continued by saying that women of means will always have access to abortions, but it's the poor whom are disproportionately affected by these onerous closures and restrictions.

Even the pro-murder people have to be against this. This is just...just awful. I hope this woman loses her medical license for breaking the law.

And yes it's a link from Fox.

While the CNN article is obviously more favorable to to this murder-for-hire organization, it still leaves open the notion that some of the comments made during the video sound like they're trying to make a profit.

And of course Unplanned Parenthood is going to come out and say she was discussing other costs...like "transportation."

So these claims are obviously ridiculous to anyone who looks into them, but to rjrumfel and Smath74: do you not just not question claims this sensational before accepting them?

Has Fox News and conservative media completely removed your ability to think critically and not accept claims this sensational without at least googling it first?

i didn't watch the video or do any research, and haven't accepted or refuted it.
but many pro-abortionists will undoubtedly defend this regardless of the context, legality, etc.

the other thing i found interesting was that if organs, tissues, and other intact body parts are being harvested, these aren't simply the "clumps of cells" that many pro-abortionists love to call them.

but officials are certainly taking the video seriously enough to investigate...

tissues are more complex structures that just "clumps of cells" and organs are more complex than just tissues.

So I'm confused, were you under the impression that no one aborted anything after the blastocyst stage? Do you understand that embryos have tissue before it even becomes a fetus?

Or are you saying that some kinds of medical waste is sacred and shouldn't be donated to research because... Jesus?

What's your point?

i'm purposefully not making an argument here.

but my semi-point is that pro-abortion folk love to say that it's "just a clump of cells" as their argument to minimize what abortions are, but this video describes how different portions of the baby are systematically crushed in order to preserve organs... clearly you wouldn't be able to do that just for a clump of cells.

^^ no babies are crushed, abortions are performed on embryos and fetuses. If we are going to be pedantic about "clump of cells", then lets accurately call it an embryo or fetus.

That's not really valid reasoning. They likely are just referring to the "tissue" for these organs, not fully developed organs themselves.

And just because an investigation is happening doesn't mean there's wrong doing. Seems like it makes good sense to donate the fetuses for scientific research, rather than just incinerating them.

wat? the heart begins beating around 5 weeks.

and another thing... altering an abortion procedure specifically to preserve and harvest organs or other fetal material is against federal law.

donating tissue is both perfectly legal and heavily regulated. As Smath pointed out, you can't change the procedure to harvest organs so the issue of tissue donation is entirely separated from the issue of abortion.

Quote :
"wat? the heart begins beating around 5 weeks."

that's totally misleading, it's not a formed organ, there aren't even chambers yet at 5 weeks. even at 20 weeks the fetal heart is barely doing anything, it's much later that it is supporting blood pressure on its own

Quote :

human embryos or human fetuses
you're the one who wanted to be accurate about terminology

it is about women's choice

the only thing they've released so far that is potentially illegal is the statement about changing the procedure to save tissue, if that was actually done it's illegal and should be prosecuted. just because that lady makes that statement though doesn't mean that she would actually ask anyone that or that they would jeopardize themselves and do it.

Understood. But in the specific context of PP, most defenders rely on abortion being a small percentage of what they do and that they primarily provide women's health services.

I actually don't give a shit if they sold it or donated it. Why does that matter in any way? Would it be in any way more beneficial for them to have incinerated the fetal tissue so that no usefulness is derived from it?

Fuck man, if my family can make a few bucks by selling my body to science instead of donating it they can have at it.

Why is abortion "extra evil" if the unborn fetal parts are sold to science. Is this similar to the stem cells blubbering. I wish we could round up all born-again Christians and ship them to the newly created Jesus Land which will consist of the outcasted states TX, MS, AL, and Louisiana. They won't be missed though perhaps we'll keep New Orleans and Austin as exclaves.

The mothers of aborted children are not "making a few bucks" here, PP is. Further, in your hypothetical you have died. Children in the womb are not dead before the abortion procedure causes their death which then allows for their bodies being "donated."

I've never waded into this thread or issue at TWW before this week, nor am I some anti-abortion zealot in public life at all, but the dismissive comments from "pro-choice" supporters of the latest PP revelations are very disturbing. If anyone can listen to these videos and not find the procedures described at least a little "icky" then we really have reached a troubling point in this country where political considerations are all that matter.
