job interview went really well....just waiting to hear back. they said they would be looking to fill the position very soon, so we'll just have to wait and see

Got 2 job offers today and I have one more interview this week for my dream job. I have applied for so many jobs for so many months, and then bam, everything all starts to happen at the same time.
7/18/2011 1:41:59 PM
They said I should hear back from them on Wednesday at the latest. So nervous
7/18/2011 1:55:19 PM
sent out a flurry of apps today. Hoping to get a hook

Two interviews this week. Bless myself!
7/18/2011 3:10:24 PM
Well, my interview comes up next Wednesday, I had to wait three weeks from when they offered me the interview (didnt give me a choice, said this day and this time), sometimes at work (yeah I have a job but this one has better career advancement opportunties) I have daydreamed about it...lol....wishing the interview would be this Wednesday instead of next. If I did get it (the annoucement said many openings) I would be basically traveling all the time which is not bad until you want to settle down. I figure since I passed the phone interview obviously maybe that is a good sign. I am really glad I have had several interviews, learn from each one. My first interview two years ago (when I started looking around) I bombed because I was not ready, but now I feel pretty good about my interview skills and this position is sorta like the one I have now so I can relate to it (minus the traveling part, I am in a cubical all day). They asked for me to send at least three professional references (I sent five), a writing sample, my last yearly evaluation, and my resume (attached to email) before the interview. I sent those Sunday and asked for confirmation of receipt and she replied back Monday with that confirmation. [Edited on July 19, 2011 at 8:10 PM. Reason : w]

^COngrAtzZZz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dream job interview was today. It went really well I think. They are doing the next round of interviewing next week so I should hear in a couple of days if I advance on to the next round. This interview was actually the second round of interviews and the ones next week are the third round. Apparently they had me skip over the first round of interviews because they already new me well enough from various projects and volunteering stuff I have done with the organization already. So I started in the 2nd round, which I think must be a good thing. I know the hire date they are looking at is August 1st, so it can't be too long for them to make a decision. It was funny, at one point one of the 2 interviewers had talked about a really good suggestion they had in relation to how this position works. And then one of them remembered it was actually me who had given them that suggestion many months back long before there was a job opening or any thought that I might be working there.I think that moment represents my best chance of getting this job. In this economy they can easily get someone with 10+ years of experience for intro level pay, I have lost out to that many times this summer already with other job interviews, but I already know this organization inside and out and have supported them for a long time.

In the morning, after 6 months of working as a contractor, I was told I was going to be hired on permanently by the department manager. In the afternoon I was told that they were shutting down the facility and laying everyone off.
7/22/2011 7:39:29 PM
At this point I have had my job for one month. I had sent out about 30 application/ resumes and had three real interviews. I ended up being hired on (I was a private contractor doing efficiency and quality work) as the second shift supervisor for the company (manufacturing plant) I was working for. I make ~50% more than my last full time job, and work the same number of hours. This job is a huge stepping stone for my professional career. I was lucky that I had the hands on knowledge as was not just a career supervisor.

Well I just learned I made it to round 3 of the interview process which will happen in the middle of this week, and I know they're looking to have whoever they pick start on Monday the 1st, so it can't be long now.
7/24/2011 4:46:07 PM
Finally, the week of the interview, did a bunch of research yesterday on the questions I already answered to get this far in the process (refresh memory)....I hope Wed is the start of a new career, it has been a long process, over three months and counting....already diid the phone interview so got through that well I suppose. I am glad I have experience interviewing with a panel, it was rough the first time around (used to one person), but I have had several panel interviews so not so nervous now.

I'll post this again. I work for a small software company that deals with analytics. We typically look for business or econ degrees but will consider anyone will strong analytical and problem solving skills (I have an engineering degree). Shoot me a PM if interested. The company is based in Atlanta but we have clients everywhere.
7/25/2011 9:12:36 PM
I work for a small telemarketing company that deals with magazines. We typically look for anyone off the streets but will consider anyone with anything higher than a 3rd grade reading level (I have at least 10th grade reading comprehension).
7/25/2011 9:15:07 PM
I really can't tell if that's sarcasm or if you were just using my format. My company provides a software solution to many of the top fortune 50 companies as well as multiple international clients. We're an industry leader in our field and in no way deal with telemarketing, magazines, or any type of advertising.[Edited on July 25, 2011 at 10:00 PM. Reason : just trying to help you guys out. State has a business school right? ]
7/25/2011 9:52:20 PM
I copy/pasted your format, yes. but in no way as an attempt to detract from your post. Merely to announce the fact that jobs exist, even if they are terrible.... terrible.... horrible jobs.
7/25/2011 10:21:11 PM
Ah gotcha. Though the copy/pasting of my format seems to imply something about my job when in fact it's an awesome job.
7/25/2011 10:34:28 PM
I know nothing about analytics (I telemarket, remember), except what I've occasionally heard whispered about the Grad program at NCSU, and how sweet it is.
7/25/2011 10:37:31 PM
ah yeah. I couldn't do telemarketing. Although telemarketing does involve lots of analytics.

I GOT A JOB!! interviewed back about a week ago. This was the one I really wanted. Its only a year contract, but it doing outreach with hispanic youth (perfect for me), and it works really well since im hoping to start grad school next year. I start the training tomorrow. It will require a move out of Raleigh since the job is in Burlington, but it will be well worth it.Sounds like my references were crucial to me getting this job. One of them said he talked with atleast 5 times (not normal i know, but he is actually an outside consultant for the organization)
7/26/2011 11:30:45 PM
^ Awesome congrats!

blah, intervew went bad (I think)...interviewed with two people two seperate times, hate the scenario off the wall questions because I give off the wall answers each time.....but anyways..it is over...one good thing is maybe since they have another 200 to hire maybe I will get it (doubt it)....just didnt feel good about it...AND somehow I was lost in the system after the first interview and waited 30 minutes for the second...lol....at least I got to talk to the three ladies (not secretaries, they were just at the front desk because there was no place to put them at the moment) for a bit. It is a travel all the time position after 4 weeks of intense training so those might be harder to fill the normal (plus, you have to have good credit for all the travel). In my mind I have it as a NO and I am moving on.Anyways, they said 2 to 4 weeks....it is with the feds so that is believeable (my current job took a month after the interview)....at least I am not unemployed, this would of been an advancement type position with great growth position (already work for the feds). I would be shocked if I got it...although they did tell me at the end that most of the hires have come from other federal agencies. I guess if they start contacting my references I will know they are serious. OH WELL, glad it is over! It is what it is....[Edited on July 27, 2011 at 7:36 PM. Reason : w]

Had the last interview earlier today, the 3rd round in the interview process. I think its the best interview performance I've ever had. Still don't know if that will overcome the likelihood that very experienced people are applying for the same job for starting pay. They said they started with 90 applicants, and I was one of only 4 who were left for the 3rd round today. I'll probably know something by Friday (although its not for sure).
7/27/2011 8:00:47 PM
^that is good though, final fourA coworker was also interviewing for another position within the same agency today, just got off the phone with her, it went really well, apparently there are only 3 people he interviewed. When she got back to the office he had already called her supervisor. I think she is going to get it and it is going to be sad because we are lunch pals. It will be good for her as she will be closer to home and the hubby and she is expecting. She is like 4 months along so it was not noticeable (according to another coworker that works in that office). She were loose items, a long jacket, and all black (all good to hide the baby bump and she is a big girl anyways).

odd scenario here:went to an interview arranged by a recruiter last month. the company wanted to hire me but needed to wait for the funds to be allocated. now the recruiter says shes not going to place me at that company because of the restructuring that the company is doing.i have connections within the company and have spoken on the phone recently with the guy who interviewed me. can i / should i go about pursuing working here while ditching the recruiter? after saying that she wouldn't place me there, i dont really trust her.
7/28/2011 10:37:38 PM
Do you think social experiences in school help a lot finding a job? There is supposed to be a interview this week. But the HR went for vacation. So, lost. I need to wait one month.
7/29/2011 7:34:26 AM
^^ personally I'd talk to your contacts. Screw the recruiter. Or at least ask her what she means exactly. Maybe they're about to go through a round of layoffs or something.^ what do you mean? Joining a frat? Probably not unless your interviewer was also in it. Volunteer work? Depends what you were doing and for how long. Drinking beers at East Village? Probably no help at all.[Edited on July 29, 2011 at 8:20 AM. Reason : G]

If you can find a story from those experiences that would directly answer an interview question go for it but I wouldn't randomly throw them out there.
7/29/2011 9:53:46 AM
Throw them to the resume? Well, it depends on what kind of jobs I'm applying for. But generally speaking, IEEE union is certainly good for technical positions right? Relay for life and student body senator may show them I have some leadership experiences, right? But it seems that internship in companies helps much more than these volunteer activities?
7/29/2011 10:05:05 AM
Yeah, I focused on co-oping and networking my ass off. I didn't bother with clubs.
7/29/2011 11:56:25 AM
^ Yep. I've never heard of someone getting a job because they were a member of some club at State but I've known plenty of people who have gotten a job because of an internship, co-op, or networking they did while at State.
