llama, what about a Speed Triple or a Honda VFR?
9/15/2011 11:22:06 PM
I loooove the look of the Speed Triple, but it's another bike that I don't think I would fit on. Maybe I'm wrong and the British know how to make bikes for regular-sized humans? I originally bought the 919 because I like the naked, street fighter look so much. I'm really interested in the VFR800, but the only one I've been able to get my hands on was one sitting at Team Powersports a while ago. The damn thing was up on the center stand on a downward slope, and try as we might we could not get the thing off the stand. That meant sitting on it, on a decline, with the back propped up did not make for a comfortable experience. The sales guy that followed us around the entire time wasn't very helpful about the whole thing, either. And now that I look, they have another one. I think I'll go down and take a look at it tomorrow. Thanks, Duke.

you think the speed triple would be significantly different from the 919, ergonomically?I don't know, i've never looked into buying either one, and I'm also 5'8" and will fit fine on either. I'd think they'd be pretty close, though (and yeah, the Triumph is a cool looking bike).

So I swapped the stock bar onto the 919 today (I bought it with the renthal installed already), and holy shit does that make a world of difference. I've mounted the bar before, but at the time it didn't seem to be different enough from the renthal to warrant going through the trouble of completely swapping everything. It's noticeably narrower than the renthal, but it places the grips about 2 inches closer to me. Might try handlebar risers next and see if I can deal with riding it like a real standard for a while.
9/18/2011 11:05:19 PM
I thought you said you wanted something MORE performance oriented?
9/18/2011 11:23:54 PM
my buddy has speed triple and he's 6'2", pretty good size for him. Even for my size, I like it.
9/19/2011 12:37:52 AM
^^ Sorry, I do, but my biggest complaint with the 919 was that it was really uncomfortable and killing my back/arms. I suspected the renthal bar was making it pretend to be a sports bike with a standard frame, and that was the cause. I assume that a bike designed with the right ergonomics won't be as uncomfortable. I really would rather have sport rather than a standard. Like I said before, it's plenty quick enough for me.
9/19/2011 11:17:24 AM
so I seem to have found a good deal on a crotch rocket however the title is not with the bike.how big of a PITA is it to get a title located/recovered?I think it will probably be worth it in parts if I cant find the title to it...so i may go for it anyways.
9/21/2011 4:35:48 PM
It's a giant pain in the dick in my experience. You'll have to spend some money to get it bonded, and then you'll likely have to make many, many trips to the DMV, stand in line forfuckingever, and then get to the counter and find a person who is either utterly dumbfounded or who has a different set of requirements for the situation than did the last person you talked to. Unless it was, like, a nearly new bike being practically given away, and I was confident it wasn't stolen, I wouldn't bother if I intended to title/register it. I mean, like, if it was a clean 2009 GSX-R or R6 or something for $1500 or something ridiculous, I'd do it.If it's not stolen, it's probably a great idea for a dedicated track bike that you don't care about titling.
9/21/2011 5:31:05 PM
You will be required to purchase an indemnity bond for 150% of the DMV's estimated value of the vehicle before they'll give you a new title. So even if you get it for $1000, you'll need to fork out another $7500 for a bike valued at $5000. http://www.ncdot.org/download/dmv/VR_MVR92A.pdf
9/21/2011 7:49:32 PM
$750, you mean.

Anybody on here ride year round? I was thinkin about getting a bike to just get me back and forth around campus and to work, but was curious as to whether or not others rode in the winter as well.
9/28/2011 1:38:33 PM
I did for years
9/28/2011 3:42:50 PM
i did as well when i was at NCSU.. NC doesnt really get cold enough to stop riding except for a few days a year
9/28/2011 4:22:19 PM
I ride year-round. Once you get you and your bike adjusted to it and learn to dress right it's fine. Definitely worth the convenience/savings while you're in school. Over the past three winters I can probably count on my hands the number of days I just said fuck it, it's too cold.
9/28/2011 5:38:03 PM
I ride year round. I rode my R100RT for probably 80% of my transportation when I lived in NC. I haven't and probably won't ride it like that down here in FL, but not because of weather--it's that my work commute is rife with heavy traffic going through lots of unusual right and left hand merges/interchanges, and a commercial area where there are multiple lanes (with a center turning lane) and parking lots on both sides. The the vast majority of the 45-minute commute is an accident waiting to happen, and I'd rather it happen to me in a car.
9/28/2011 6:54:37 PM
I ride to school . I drive to work for the same reason theduke mentioned. Although i got rearended at school so...............
9/28/2011 7:54:56 PM
just a heads up, cornerspeed is doing a school at VIR monday and there are low numbers. basically 1:1 student to instructor, meaning wide open track and always good eyes on you and your bike. great weather for a track day too
9/29/2011 7:22:09 AM
So I didn't get a permit for my motorcycle this year. Transportation comes up to Wolf Village and writes Parking in a No Parking Zone tickets for a few motorcycles parked up here. It's clearly a motorcycle parking space. I've been sick as hell since Friday, so I haven't been on my bike/outside since. Got one No-parking zone ticket on Monday and a second yesterday. Took them both down today and told them they have it wrong. Said the first one should have been a warning and the second I could petition. I mean, if they wrote the ticket for expired permit, I'd take my licks. But to write it for parking in a clearly defined parking zone.... HUH? She informed enforcement and they said they have written a lot of tickets for that in the last week. Go figure.Bought the stupid $53 permit today. Will post the outcome.

^ ~$60 for 365 days of parking almost anywhere on campus is so beyond worth it to meon a side note...insurance check is gonna allow me to completely fix the bike and replace the stuff i stipped off from the wreck in style. Probably gonna have the guys at Toxic make me some custom pipes...I'm thinking something along these lines:I like the idea of bringing them together before the clutch cover and having them sweep out...but I kindof like the look of the post-cover radius on this one:and I've never been into the 2-into-1 look but this one is pretty gangsterwhat do y'all think? here is my bike as it sits right now for reference:]
9/29/2011 11:56:31 AM
^Wreck? I guess I missed that somewhere. Also, check the reflection in that next to last pic - haha
9/29/2011 1:31:09 PM
yeah see the last page...clearly the bike and I are OK haha[Edited on September 29, 2011 at 2:46 PM. Reason : lol @ pic]

I like the 2>1 the best, but the first one with the duals in front of the cover isn't bad. The one in the middle just isn't doing it for me. Unless you're running baffles, I'd also bring the exits back at least another 12 inches so you don't go deaf.
9/29/2011 5:36:55 PM
I run these and they are LOUD!
9/29/2011 8:17:19 PM
^^^ Daaamnn man, glad you're alright. I assumed so since you're posting here and I hadn't heard about it.

My friend just sold his house that he built with his two hands, and bought an FZ1 to fullfil his dream of travelling around the US for a year on a motorcycle, on a minimum budget and with with just a general direction in mind. The route basically keeps him in the South for the winter and takes him back up north once the temperatures rise. We are prepping his bike and setting up his blog right now. I am going to ride down for the first weekend with him to film some footage that will hopefully turn into a documentary at some point. We are leaving from Harper's Ferry, WV on October 14th and will head southeast for the Bridge Day near Bekley WV, and the on to Ashville NC. He will be in and around NC the following week, if anyone wants to meet with him in Raligh for a beer please give me a shout. He is an awesome person? and I guarantee you will have a very insightful conversation that will get you thinking about purpose of life and all that other good stuff.

Anyone use a bluetooth earpiece in a full face helmet with any success. Me and my riding buddy were thinking about buying them and calling each other before we go ride as a makeshift intercom. Wondering if anyone else has done this?
10/9/2011 11:12:57 AM
just ride two-up and whisper those sweet nothings right in his ear nahimjustplayin i don't know how well that'd work but give it a shot FOR SCIENCE. i'd be inclined to think the voice reception for the headset would be all boogered up in a full-face, that's if you could even squeeze the thing between your ear and the helmet without giving yourself a migrainebut part of the reason i love riding is so there's at least some part of my day where i don't have anyone buzzing in my ear, only the sounds of motor and road and occasionally me yelling at some idiot in traffic]
10/9/2011 12:06:51 PM
My cousin and I use BLINC systems to talk to each other, it works but past 35-50mph speed the wind noise and the engine noise drown out the conversation. Range for helmet-to helmet is also limited and it is far below what is stated on the box. BT also works great for music and taking quick phone calls without having to take the helmet off (although calls also often require slowing down or stopping due to wind noise)
10/9/2011 9:46:11 PM
I'm thinking on trying this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875996423

I remember a buddy of mine used a wireless bluetooth headset that he bought at cyclegear. Was $150 for the thing, but it worked really good. Couldn't hear wind noise from it at highway speeds. But he also has nice helmet. I wanna say it was a Chatterbox, but not sure.
10/10/2011 12:51:25 AM
The mic on the in-ear unit won't be able to pick up anything because it will be squashed into the side of the helmet. Not to mention the fact that getting the helmet on your head with that thing will be nearly impossible. There are cheap Bluetooth Interphone kits on eBay that work great, you can't even tell that the person is riding because the noise cancellation works so well. Only thing that kinda sucks about them is the speakers, so I hacked up the cord and wired in a headphone jack adapter.
