lol. Also, Qatar hasn't even won a game in the AFC Asian Cup since 1988.

Oh boy...FIFA continues the depressing host country tour with Russia, followed by a trip to the devil's crotch for the 2022 tourney in Qatar.

lol I posted that somewhere else before... I didn't realize it was them. They lost to fucking Haiti this year

i'm sure they will assemble a stellar squad in the next 12 yearso/u on goals given up in group stage: 25[Edited on December 2, 2010 at 11:49 AM. Reason : ]

I'm enjoying a good chuckle at the fact "Quatar" is trending on Twitter instead of Qatar, mostly due to people reposting it while trying to tell people it's spelled Qatar.]
12/2/2010 11:51:47 AM
the other thing that frustrates me today is all the comments I am seeing around online concerning the US getting chosen in 1994 (a team that hadn't been qualifying and had never hosted vs Qatar) Sure, I would have been skeptical at the time simply based on the state of our national team, but the fact that people would even compare those two scenarios is ridiculous.
12/2/2010 11:54:31 AM
I'm not pissed off that Qatar's soccer team sucks, I don't care about thatit's just a horrible place for fans - the alcohol rules, 120 degrees, their culture is fucked in so many ways, they don't even acknowledge Israel as a country ffs. At least a majority of the world actually likes traveling to the US
12/2/2010 11:58:13 AM
^that's exactly what I mean. I've seen a bunch of statuses and tweets about how the US shouldn't be upset because we were "unproven" basically when we were selected in 1994. And I feel the same as you, I don't care about how good their team is, just look at the rest of the stuff you have to deal with relating to picking Qatar to host.
12/2/2010 12:02:06 PM
I think it pisses me off the most because all this talk about corruption and bribes... and they picked the two places that fit that profile. It's basically the FIFA committee telling the entire world to go fuck themselves and there's nothing they do about it. And there really isn't.
12/2/2010 12:05:01 PM
agreed. did they ever say anything more about releasing the voting info?
12/2/2010 12:10:53 PM
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/bidders/2018/media/newsid=1344971.html?cid=twitter_voiceofthesitewe were never closethey don't give out individual votes though
12/2/2010 12:13:36 PM
In terms of population and infrastructure, this is basically like announcing the Raleigh metro area as the host of the World Cup, except with the added benefit of no alcohol in public, 120 degree temperatures, and not acknowledging Israel as a nation.
12/2/2010 12:32:38 PM
i cant wait to see them employ this air conditioning technology they have in the stadiums. in one instance i cant believe they decided to host in qatar...but in another instance, this is fifa, they seem to do everything backwards or wrong from what i think should be done
12/2/2010 12:34:44 PM
this is like the chick-fil-a bowl taking nc state
12/2/2010 12:46:27 PM
Could be good for the Middle East, or it could be a huge embarassment if Israel manages to qualify. At least they didn't do a joint bid with automatic bids locked up by Qatar AND UAE or Saudi Arabia. Maybe there will be enough oil money left over for Dubai to pay good international players to move to/play for Qatar?
12/2/2010 1:08:15 PM
Qatar has led the world in carbon dioxide output for the past 18 years so that should improve with the building of the infrastructure and running those ACs....
12/2/2010 1:15:38 PM
12/2/2010 1:33:28 PM
isn't it really hot over there?
12/2/2010 1:40:30 PM
Qatar is saying they will allow alcohol at the games and in fan zones, but I don't want to be the drunk fan who carries a beer into the street or picks a fight with a guard at the fan zone.[Edited on December 2, 2010 at 1:44 PM. Reason : I hope England, Scotland, and Ireland qualify]

12/3/2010 12:03:24 AM
It's incredibly hot, the population is tiny, there are no attractions, and it's illegal to display, carry, or consume alcohol in public.Sounds perfect for the WC.
12/3/2010 12:07:51 AM
I can't wait to not be there
12/3/2010 12:10:40 AM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcAi3GLQyOIHere is a video of the stadiums that will be built. They look pretty cool, but I only saw 5 in that video. Doesn't FIFA require nations to have 12 stadiums with at least one that holds 80,000+ for the opening game and final?
12/3/2010 12:35:43 AM
They're renovating three and building nine more.
12/3/2010 12:36:22 AM
^How are they going to have room for all of them?
12/3/2010 12:52:48 AM
Umm...there's plenty of room. The one cool thing about this is that all of the stadiums will be within an hour of each other.
12/3/2010 2:00:11 AM
^Which could be cool but could also be a logistical nightmare.

We should get him extradited and hung for treason.
12/4/2010 10:48:08 PM
he told espn he voted for us, false alarmstill ridiculous that we'd even have to ask the question and that nobody will ever know for sure what happened in the votes
12/5/2010 9:56:51 AM
^I can't believe he wouldn't. Then again, money talks.
12/5/2010 10:30:05 AM
Qatar should build all domes
12/5/2010 12:58:42 PM
Not allowed by FIFA WC criteria. Must be open roof.
12/5/2010 4:16:59 PM
ah, is that a recent rule? they played in a dome in detroit in '94
12/5/2010 4:20:07 PM
^And in 2002. The one stadium in Japan was a dome with a giant door on the side so they could move the natural turf field in and out.
12/5/2010 4:31:47 PM
Hmmmm. I don't know, but I've seen it stated in several articles discussing Qatar's new stadiums.Seems like a pretty silly rule. But then again we're talking about FIFA.
