http://packinsider.com/2015/07/29/maverick-rowan-leaning-toward-nc-state/

Quote :
"Covering the recruitment saga of Maverick Rowan this summer has made me look silly on numerous occasions. I have no qualms confessing that. I think he has made a lot of people look silly.

Here’s what I know at this point. The NC State coaching staff up until here recently wasn’t optimistic about where they stood with Rowan because they were in the dark. Rowan’s camp has been very quiet throughout this process.

Then rumors started swirling around that Rowan was leaning toward NC State, and now the last four 247 Crystal Ball Predictions have gone in the favor of the Wolfpack. If I’ve learned anything about this ball in Rowan’s recruitment, it’s that it is very unstable at times.

So last night I reached out to one of the analysts who cast his vote for NC State to glean any new insight in regards to the sudden shift in favor of the Wolfpack. He said that things don’t look good with St. John’s and Louisville, and that supposedly Louisville got frustrated and has backed away. He also said that the fact that NC State is an Adidas school works in their favor with Rowan. I spoke with another national analyst last night that said that Rowan’s dad has wanted him to go to a Nike school, where he could get a lot of shots.

NC State – Adidas
Louisville – Adidas
St. John’s – Under Armour
West Virginia – Nike

If you haven’t figured it out yet, this recruitment is a tad confusing.

If in fact things aren’t looking good for Louisville and St. John’s, then things could be looking good for NC State. West Virginia might be a Nike school, but they just randomly appeared on his last Top-4, when they weren’t even on his original Top 6. NC State has been in his Top 6, Top 4, Top 3, and then his Top 4 again.

Rowan has been adamant about going somewhere where he can play. He’s a shooter and he wants to shoot. He’s already determined that he will wear the #24 wherever he goes, and if he chooses NC State, he will follow in the footsteps of a couple of guys who knew how to put the ball in the hoop. Who wore the #24 at NC State? Just a couple of guys named Tom Gugliotta, Julius Hodge and T.J. Warren."

this isn't the most well written sentence - but i read it as "he won't get as many shots at an adidas school"

yeah, that sentence was weird. I'm assuming he meant he wants him to go to a Nike school AND to a school where he can get a lot of shots.

Great job here. Love how the staff uses open spots as an advantage in recruiting rather than moping over guys leaving.

Solid pickup...had been a done deal for a few weeks, just had to wait on his high school stuff to finish up.

Paired with Kirk, not a bad off season and last minute pickup.

the 16' roster is shaping up nicely. Throw in another 3 commits and it'll be one ridiculous roster.

Solid pickup. Now start the "which wing is going to transfer" discussion. Hate to be a pessimist, but I just can't see us keeping all of those guys happy.

No, it's a legitimate concern. We've got 5 wings for '15-16, and Dorn ready to contribute next year. I have zero faith that Gottfried can keep 6 wings happy given his history of playing a shallow bench.

Probably either Kirk, Rowan or the Martins will be looking to move on at the end of the upcoming season. Let's just hope there are no chemistry issues along the way.

I think a lot of these "wings" you talk about will play positions other than small forward.

Henderson will need a break and it will be an easy play for the Twins to slide over and take some pressure off him.

I don't think we have to worry with Kirk wanting to get immediate playing time since he is only a 3 star but I could be wrong, given his athletic ability he may surprise us.

I think Henderson will slide nicely into the Lacey role and that leaves a nice SF/3 tall guard lineup with Rowan in...and gives us depth at the Wings and Bigs, something we haven't had in awhile.

Depth at bigs? Isn't Freeman redshirting? If so we only have 2 and one can't get in shape

^^^That's crazy! Abu and Anya are awesome. Anya is a shot-blocking machine, and Abu can play for days.

Plus, they smile all the time, and they're so much fun to watch.

We get a big pickup in the late summer, and you people start worrying about transfers

and dsj apparently injured his knee last night (insert joke about how only nc state recruits and players get injured)

but, but, but we have too many wings! why would we recruit another wing? there's no way gott can keep all our wings happy! someone may transfer to butler! then we'll only have four wings, and we'll have to use a scholarship to recruit another wing!

I think we're in great shape no matter what, but it's pretty much inevitable that somebody will transfer. All of our guys are too good to ride the bench and we can't give them all a ton of minutes. We just have to watch and see the cream rise to the top. Competition isn't a bad thing.

What will the lineup look like?

(C) Anya; Freeman
(PF) Abu; Freeman
(SF) Martin; Martin; Kirk
(SG) Henderson; Rowan
(PG) Cat; Henderson

I think Freeman starts unless he's not fully recovered from injury, with Anya being the odd big man out. Otherwise, I agree with your other starters in Barber, Henderson, Caleb, Abu.

^^i may have it wrong, but i think Cody was the one trying to work on his ball handling to play a little back up PG. And if we did go small, Caleb could play a little 4. But that'd be a small lineup. I do think Gott mentioned that as a possibility at some media event this summer.

We're definitely going small at times, with 3 wings and only one post player out there.

Our interior defense and rebounding may suffer, but they gotta guard us, too, pal.
