If teachers are more likely to send black kids to the office (to get the punishment ball rolling) than white kids for the same offenses, then again, that's a big problem.

This is exactly what happens in the criminal justice system. Minorities receive harsher sentences for the same crimes, especially when it comes to capital punishment. They are also disproportionately targeted by police.

No reason to believe it's any different in schools.

And that can be easily proved by statistics. You can see who was charged with crimes and the subsequent sentences they received.

In the school system, only those who get suspensions have anything put in their record. No statistics (that I'm aware of) are recorded for those that get off easy.

I mean I'm basically agreeing that we can prove these types of biases in school. But I also think that a no tolerance policy, which would take subjectivity out of the equation, would not be the way to go either. A no tolerance policy would end up giving harsher punishments to everyone...similar to how our criminal justice system metes out punishments for drug violations.
