Suddenly we're unranked[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 5:36 PM. Reason : Not really but this is some bullshit]

Jeff Gravely basically said that NCSU told Purvis not to go to class because if he goes and the clearinghouse says that Upper Room's core classes are not acceptable, then he would become a non-qualifier and would not be able to play for state for a couple years (he would have to transfer to a JUCO then come back if he really wanted to stick with the Pack). This is all on Upper Room, Purvis took the classes he should've taken, Upper Room just has to prove that those core classes are comparable to other accredited schools core classes. There could be something REALLY bad with Upper Rooms classes (i.e. they are not acceptable by the NCAA) in which case Purvis' junior and senior years of high school are almost non-existent. OR, the good side could be that Upper Room just didnt realize how strict the NCAA's regulations and formwork was and they just need to go back and dot the i's and cross the t's. I really really hope its the latter, Purvis is too good a kid to have the rug pulled out from under him like this.Gravely also commented that the NCAA could rule as soon as tomorrow or Monday in which case this is all a bad dream. NC State could also try to file some for of waiver/appeal to the NCAA and let Pruvis start classes while they conduct their investigation, but if he winds up being ruled ineligible Purvis/NCSU are in troublefucked up situation

I thought the Ncaa didnt have anything to do with academics?/UNC
8/16/2012 6:56:14 PM
The NCAA is the regulating body for high schools, not colleges. Duh.
8/16/2012 6:58:34 PM
At least I have faith that our AD is on the phone yelling at the NCAA/URCA/whomever to get their stuff together.
8/16/2012 7:00:52 PM

8/16/2012 7:52:50 PM
boycott da ncaa
8/16/2012 8:38:06 PM
could he not go to hargrave for a year like Lorenzo and others have done? i mean, i guess with a guy like him, if he's somewhere else for a year, he's likely entering the draft the following year...
8/16/2012 9:09:16 PM
can we hack his high school transcript?
8/16/2012 9:17:09 PM
so nothings actually happened yet, right? Why are people jumping overboard?
8/16/2012 10:38:49 PM
Because athletes have to attend class and do schoolwork at state?
8/16/2012 11:00:17 PM
so he misses the syllabus day. so what. athletes miss class all the time for games and trips.

So is it safe to say that we suck again?
8/17/2012 12:42:58 PM
^get that shit outta here.we return 4 of our 5 starters and will at least have 2 capable freshman coming in.
8/17/2012 12:47:02 PM
So what about all the other people that graduated along with Purvis...are these random kids not allowed to attend class at whatever university they are at because the validity of their high school diploma is being questioned? Was there any other Division 1 athletes that graduated with Purvis and are they allowed to play there sports at their respective school?

I'm going to try to remain optimistic that he will be cleared. But in the interest of conversation, what would our starting lineup look like if he couldn't play? It's a big blow to be sure because, while positions don't matter as much in college bball, we don't really have anyone to even marginally replace him at that position, much less create off the bounce and slash to the rim like him. We could potentially be left with no one to play 2 guard along side Brown. (Imagine last year with no CJ Williams. Although we have experience coming back and more talent coming in.) Lewis and Brown together? While we would have probably spent some time with this back court combination to give Rodney some rest, I don't like it at all. It basically becomes the Brown/Johnson combo from last year, except we would use it as our primary back court lineup. I honestly want to minimize any kind of combination where Brown isn't full time at PG. This is his year to be one of the best PG in the nation and we don't want him spending much of his time in any sort of hybrid role imo. This has been proposed before, but would you slide Wood to the 2? I think we've all come to a reasonable consensus that this would not be the best idea. Wood is a 3pt specialist and will likely be nothing more, and I'm okay with that. Sure, he may develop some sort of consistent dribble penetration and pull up jumper this year but I'm not really holding my breath. That doesn't even touch on his ability or inability to guard opposing teams 2s. We've argued that ad nauseum as well. So, I'm just kinda scratching my head a little. I'm not sure what we would resort to. It would be nice if at least Ralston Turner were eligible this year. At least we have TJ Warren coming in who has shown a lot of promise to potentially be a solid contributor this year.Hopefully, this will all be made irrelevant in the next few days and Rodney will be going to class and suiting up for us this season.
8/17/2012 1:30:51 PM
Yep, Wood would have to help out in the backcourt. Or Lewis and Brown. Could definitely have used Jaqwan if RP doesn't make itfwiw, take it with a large grain of salt (i don't even know who NCStateFootball is, it's probably silly to even post this) nm, probably completely unreliable, but NCStateFootball tweeted that staff thinks RP will be cleared tonight, but RP isn't as confident. Positions don't matter on offense. But on D, we absolutely need a 2-guard who can stay in front of the opposition's top perimeter scorer, like CJ Williams did for us last year.Scott Wood will never be that guy, which is why he is such a liability in the SG role.
8/17/2012 1:37:21 PM
thank god. let the ncstate shit happen on the court please
