you can tell from the opener that carls character has changed. he has more responsibility and seems to be treated as much more of an adult, less whiny and stupid. hopefully I wont have to hear you people bitch about him anymore

Hopefully us people won't feel the need to.

Carl's TV character is catching up to the comic character... ie- less annoying, more badass. When Michonne's character gets formally introduced, I'm sure they will explain the story behind her zombie slaves.I am liking that is SEEMS they are going to follow the comics a bit closer this season from what I've reasoned. I hate having had to compare TV to book in the past. With future plots, it would really behove them to stick to the comics as closely as possible. Although it seems like the 'prison' plot is progressing pretty quickly as well as Lori's pregnancy.I bring this up sparingly because it isn't really a spoiler at this point since Dale is dead, but wasn't it Dale who was the one that got his leg chopped off from a zombie bite in the books? It's not much of a big deal. I'm just wondering why they felt the need to throw that in the show when the character it was significant to has already been killed off.
10/16/2012 7:41:00 AM
^Dale was the second person to get his leg cut off after a bite in the books. I think the other either bled out or died from infection.

I know it's a show about zombies, so suspend disbelief about random shit blah blah blah...However, there's no way that Michonne is strong enough to chop off 2 heads with one swing of the sword. No. freaking. way.Regardless awesome episode! [Edited on October 16, 2012 at 10:37 AM. Reason : k]

If it is a legit samurai sword, it is very believable.Though a year's worth of killing zombies would have dulled it considerably.
10/16/2012 10:45:31 AM
I have a samurai sword and I chopped an orange in half in mid-air. Therefore this is plausible. Couple questions - Was the implication that the prisoners were locked up in there with supplies? There's no way they could have survived that long unless they were eating people.
10/16/2012 10:48:09 AM
I'm sure she keeps that shit honed, she's a warrior.Plus factor in several months worth of rot for the zombies and it makes them that much easier to lop off a couple heads in a go. All said and done I liked this premiere a lot. If they keep this kind of momentum going it'll be a quality season. Especially Carl, he was almost cool while going through that house in the 1st scene. I can see them letting Herschel go/die now that they have more characters to introduce between the prision and the Governor.
10/16/2012 10:55:54 AM
I like that time has elapsed since the previous season... which is different from season 1/2 where it was a direct continuation.
10/16/2012 11:13:38 AM
Zombie flesh is soft and pulp like. Why else could an 70 year old man and a small child jam metal rods completely thru their skulls with ease? The challenge in lopping two heads at once would be more the angle than the resistance, as the blade would have to remain perfectly straight across a relatively wide swath to hit the sweet spot on both necks.

i'm really interested to see what the "backstory" of those bunch of prisoners is. Like, how did they survive while so many prisoners and guards didnt, stuff like that.
10/16/2012 12:17:15 PM
I believe in the comic a guard locked them in there to save them without releasing them once shit hit the fan. I don't recall why them specifically. Maybe because they were the guys in a single cellblock?[Edited on October 16, 2012 at 12:42 PM. Reason : spoiler]

I'll buy the weakened state of the zombie's bodies argument. But not the sharp sword one

any idea why rick took carls canned food and threw it away?[Edited on October 16, 2012 at 7:11 PM. Reason : just looked back and I'm thinking because it was dog food]
10/16/2012 7:08:01 PM
I thought it was because of something with the expiration date...
10/16/2012 7:33:59 PM
it was a yellow can and at the top it had "real flavors!" and the first letter of the of the product was P so I wa sthinking it was purina dog food
10/16/2012 7:47:07 PM
At first I thought it was the expiration date. But the look he gave everyone was one of refusing to go to that level. The comics repeatedly harp on Rick taking responsibility for the group an. So if they have to eat dog food its a failure.
10/16/2012 7:52:38 PM
STOP TALKING ABOUT THE GOD DAMN COMIC BOOKS IN THE TV SHOW THREAD YOU FUCKING FAGGOTS.]
10/16/2012 8:19:03 PM
it was definitely dog food, i mean i think it said so on the label
10/16/2012 8:45:43 PM
definitely dog food... i think it had a picture of a dog on the label.
10/16/2012 8:46:46 PM
^^^what he said
10/16/2012 9:02:08 PM
there were 2 cans of dog food that Carl found and took. he started to open one when Rick came over and picked it up and looked at it where he immediately threw it away. the way i took that was that he was not gonna let what was going on in the world reduce them to eating dog food out of can. that it was his resolve to find a place they could hunker down for a period of time and survive, like the farm being pretty self-sufficient.
10/16/2012 9:13:51 PM
^ya, again, i dont think they were trying to be subtle about that...
10/16/2012 9:16:32 PM
I thought it was fairly obvious what was implied
10/16/2012 9:17:58 PM
10/16/2012 9:33:44 PM
not being subtle would be a close up of the can or someone saying "dog food"]
10/16/2012 9:33:56 PM
like this?[Edited on October 16, 2012 at 9:42 PM. Reason : ^^maybe PAST events in the comic book, but if any chance of affecting future, dont do it]

10/16/2012 9:43:05 PM
^^yup like that, completely missed it
10/16/2012 9:53:01 PM
haha no worries. i went to an annoying amount of effort to get that picture (starts on demand, rewind and pause several times to get just right, take pic w/ phone, email to self, save pic to desktop, upload to tww, post)
10/16/2012 9:54:56 PM
haha, well doneI rewound and watched the scene where he opened it to pretty much figure out it was dog food and didnt even think about going back to where he found it

Clearing out the courtyard with the riot suit zombies felt like watching a video game. I was waiting for the boss battle.I thought that the herds of walkers being tracked on their map was a nice touch, and Carl not being a whiny bitch was a welcome change, including him awkwardly lingering in Beth's room, nice.
10/16/2012 10:10:01 PM
So Rick is cool with letting them eat an owl but dog food is off limits? I'm not gonna lie, I've seen dog food that looked kinda tasty before and I'm pretty sure if I were slowly starving to death I'd have no problem eating dog food.
10/16/2012 10:46:25 PM
^^yea i was thinking the same thing: "the difficulty level of these zombies is increasing!"
10/16/2012 10:53:51 PM
^^ i think it's more the principle.
10/16/2012 11:10:54 PM
^^^i think most of that comment would have made more sense w/out comparing it to dog food. I think owl meat is far more desirable than gelatinous gluten sludge. But in desperation, of course most would eat dog food.
10/16/2012 11:17:11 PM
^^they looked fairly healthy to me. Maybe hungry but not starving. And that was some nasty ass dog food there.

10/17/2012 7:44:45 AM
It's not that big of a stretch that Carl and Beth would be interested in each other. He's 13 and she's 16. They are the only two in their group in their age range.
10/17/2012 8:00:56 AM
