lol. Apparently only 1000 people will get it.https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/31003?tstart=0

1000 will go from 13.35 to 13.37 and 1000 will go from 12.1199 to 13.37, so far about 5 people have been able to update lol. it apparently worked for about 5 seconds 2 minutes before it was supposed to go live and those 5 people were able to get it.Whats sad is that this is just a bunch of bug fixes... nothing too major of a change]
6/24/2010 12:02:11 PM
Update is finally online

On a side note, I love Froyo. Going on 27 hrs now and still have 40% battery left with light usage.
6/24/2010 12:40:46 PM
^ditto, yesterday had my phone on for 16 hours and was at 60-70% battery with light usage, also using low voltage kernal 400/900

has anyone used google maps navigation? i'm thinking about getting a new GPS, but i don't know if i should hold off until i pick up some sort of droid in the next month or so. for anyone who has used it, does it work just as well as a GPS, or is a traditional device more reliable or whatever?
6/24/2010 1:42:27 PM
^It will satisfy your navigation needs.
6/24/2010 1:44:25 PM
It works absolutely awesome as a GPS. The only potential problem is if you want to take a call while using navigation. If you do take a call it will pick back up when you disconnect. The main thing I love about it is no updates to purchase and install. The maps have the most recent info that is available online.
6/24/2010 1:45:30 PM
yeah, I use mine regularly and haven't had any problem with it getting me where I wanted to go. It just might take you through BFE in order to get there though. lol. Did have an issue where I was coming out of a side road and it thought I could turn left but there was just a median there but luckily it reroutes pretty fast. I do have a problem with it overheating after 45min or so of navigation causing it to stop charging when in the car dock. Ended up getting a vent mount which solved the problem.[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 1:54 PM. Reason : ]
6/24/2010 1:53:39 PM
^^I bet it works fine on AT&T during a call since you can actually use data and talk at the same time]
6/24/2010 1:54:20 PM
Rat, Google Navigation is incredible.... they have always been spot on for me, and while in the mountains of NC actually outperformed my Garmin unit (was losing signal in the mtns and sending me LONG ways out of the way). My WIFE was quick to say "The nexus one has not led us wrong once, where the garmin has fucked us 3 times this trip... lets just sell this thing"The only negative I can think of is the draw on battery... if you leave it charging, no problem.... if you are going to be using it for many hours non-stop I expect the device would get really hot due to the use and battery being connected to the charger.I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about Google's Nav (well, except Tom Tom, haha).^^ yeah, same for T-Mobile. I cant recall what happened last time I took a call while using it.... imagine it went right back to the maps b/c I dont recall anything weird.[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 1:55 PM. Reason : ag]
6/24/2010 1:54:22 PM
Yea, I've been thinking about selling my handheld GPS because I don't use it anymore now that my wife and I have 2 Droids
6/24/2010 1:54:52 PM
my wife and i have had our droids for a few months now, and i've noticed that some calls between each are incredibly low volume. it has nothing to do with the media volume within the call- it's like it's gated down on the connect. we have to disconnect and recall each other to get a normal volume. this happens about every 7 to 10 calls. is this just how droid and/or verizon works?
6/24/2010 2:47:45 PM
Do you use Google Voice, or do you call each others' real numbers directly? I haven't noticed any volume issues on calls with Sonia.[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 2:53 PM. Reason : Post #46,064.]
6/24/2010 2:52:30 PM
straight up numbers

No volume issues here, Droid-to-Droid on VZW
6/24/2010 3:01:18 PM
Does it happen when you call her, when she calls you, or both? Does it happen when you call any other Droid users?I'm starting to wonder whether you just got a bum unit or something. Seems like your experience with the phone has been a little fraught.
6/24/2010 3:02:34 PM
No volume issues here, Incredible-to-Incredible on VZW
6/24/2010 3:03:34 PM
no volume issues here, granted I don't think I've talked to anyone on another android-based device. Did have an issue with no volume on a couple of the custom roms and would have to turn the speakerphone on and off to get the ear piece working again. Only real issue I've had was the echo or hiss when on a call but going into the programming menu and changing the vocode to 13k instead of EVRC fixed that. Tried EVRC-B but apparently that's only available in certain areas and I couldn't make calls when using it.
6/24/2010 3:12:18 PM
it happens on both ways and i haven't noticed it on any other calls (droid and non). she'll be low to me, and vice-versa, regardless of who makes the call. i don't have a warranty and it's not an issue i can replicate, so i doubt there's anything verizon could do, right? i haven't dropped the phone, gotten it wet, and it's in a body glove case. i deal with it, but i'd rather not if possible[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 3:37 PM. Reason : and we're running pure 2.1, no roms Ø]
6/24/2010 3:36:43 PM
Are you by any chance holding the phone around the bottom? The antenna and mic are in the lip and think I remember hearing people with similar issues when it came out
6/24/2010 3:44:17 PM
no i usually hold with left hand, thumb near usb port, fingers between volume and camera button. what's weird though is it doesn't seem to be a "fixable" issue in a call- talking louder or physically maneuvering the phone and around it doesn't change anything. it's like the phone decides "this call will be at -20db. don't like that? try calling back and i'll see if i can bump you up to 0db"[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 4:01 PM. Reason : also i made sure mic is not obscured from cases- it's good there Ø]

Slingbox on Android: $29.99http://www.slingbox.com/go/androidIt looks soooo cool, makes me want to buy a Slingbox:
6/24/2010 4:38:33 PM
i was really excited about it but i've pretty much decided on getting rid of Dish Network, so I won't be needing it anymore

Ok, I'm completely fed up with my Eris. I don't understand how a PHONE can be such a shitty phone. This is my 2nd Eris btw. I just had it replaced under warranty a week ago. As a toy, it's great. As a phone, it's a complete piece of shit. I'm a business user and it just doesn't cut it. Right now I'm trying to decide whether to go back to a boring old BB that actually works for what I need the most or try another Android phone. I know part of the issue is Android's juvenile state but I don't know how much.Has anyone else owned both the Eris & a Droid or Incredible? Preferably someone that actually depends on their phone for business and does 20+ emails a day as well as 10-20 calls. Am I just too much of a business user to get along with Android or am I just stuck with a piece of shit phone?
6/24/2010 7:27:23 PM
i use my eris heavily and haven't had any problems, what is your phone doing?
6/24/2010 7:32:05 PM
Randomly (but especially when it's on longer than a day), I'll hit the send button, wait for the screen to come up, start dialing a name, wait for it to figure out the 3 buttons I hit, select the number I want to call, wait for it to recognize that I've hit something & start dialing, finally talk to whoever I wanted to call 15 seconds after the whole process started.Other times, I'll hit the send key, the person I want to call is listed at the top so I hit send again. The list then updates to correctly show the last number I dialed and then the phone starts to dial it (number other than I wanted). Then it gets more fun. Sometimes I'll hit end and it ends. Other times it won't do anything so I'll hit it again, still nothing, hit it again, finally hangs up then immediately dials again because it recognized 2 of the inputs. The email app just plain blows. Perhaps I've missed it but my smallest gripe is that there's no way to select multiple messages if you want to mark them as read (like when I'm sitting at my desk). Seriously? WTF is that? I currently have it set to check every 15 minutes and it'll do that great for several hours, maybe even a whole day. Then it'll start checking every 45 minutes to an hour. My old one was worse. It would continue on until it would only check when I actually pick the phone up to do something. 15 minutes is 14 minutes longer than I'd prefer to wait but I can deal with it. 45 minutes is purely unacceptable but I've been putting up with it for the past several months because I liked the features. Now I don't care. I just want a phone that I can actually use again.
6/24/2010 7:49:16 PM
you need a laptop
6/24/2010 7:51:55 PM
What? Both my old ass BB Curve 8330 & 1st gen. Storm POS outperformed this thing as long as I did a battery pull once a week.*edit* talking about phone/email apps only here. As an entertainment device, the Eris far outperforms either.[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 7:58 PM. Reason : .]
6/24/2010 7:57:20 PM
Don't really think the Eris was intended as a business device. It may be cute but it's just underpowered.
6/24/2010 8:00:26 PM
6/24/2010 8:01:24 PM
Droid X or Samsung Captivate
6/24/2010 8:33:04 PM
^^ NON-gmail app. We're stuck with POP3 at work right now. I also already have 2 gmail accounts coming in and don't want to deal with forwarding the 3rd. I don't leave any apps open. I exit out of everything specifically to keep it from slowing down more and I rarely run anything other than mail, gmail, browser, & phone now. Finally, you mention another petty annoyance. I get gmail notifications in Chrome on my mac before my phone. Not a big deal but it's kinda lame.^^^ I agree with that but I can't help but wonder how much of it is Android as well. I don't want to go spend $400-500 on another phone only to have the same issues. Every review about an Android phone talks about how awesome it is but none of them focus on what I'm looking for.[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 8:35 PM. Reason : damn ^]
6/24/2010 8:34:44 PM
oh yeah, i can't imagine trying to use non-gmail app. it's terrible on win-mo too. if you're using email a lot bb is really the only optionalso, what task killer are you running and have you tried a reset yet?and clear your cachemy only complaint so far with the phone is that the htc widget for text messaging lags some, but i don't know how much of that i can blame on the phone. [Edited on June 24, 2010 at 8:44 PM. Reason : .]
6/24/2010 8:39:56 PM
yeah, I've never used anything other than gmail or exchange. There's an app called k9 mail or something like that that a bunch of non-gmail/exchange people are using that seems to work well. Blackberry does have android on pop/imap email but you couldn't pay me to go back even if I had to use those.[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 8:54 PM. Reason : ]
6/24/2010 8:52:18 PM
Dave, like ^ said, you should try K9. The stock email app is really a side thought to google *hello gmail* http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f23/k9-vs-stock-email-11170/As far as your phone is concerned.... why not root it and run a custom ROM... hell, that will make your phone a LOT faster. I assume the Eris has been rooted, I dont follow it.With root you could overclock, have apps that limit apps on bootup.... apps that save battery....reduce background shit.Your phone sounds horrible, honestly. That is NOT Android.[Edited on June 24, 2010 at 9:10 PM. Reason : aegr]
6/24/2010 9:09:20 PM
^ its not Eris either, I know several people who use theirs for work and never complain about any of these issues, especially after the speed improvements that came with the last update
6/24/2010 9:15:10 PM
Can anyone recommend a fun game to play? Ive played over 5000 hands of solitaire. I've kinda worn out Air control too.
6/24/2010 9:20:10 PM
Connect 4
6/24/2010 9:56:23 PM
^ I second that...I wouldn't mind a fun game on evo

Lineup is a quick fun game... no brainer and fast.Hmm..... just realized that is about the only game I have on my phone. yeah, make suggestions people. I play a ton of Nintendo games.... guess that is the majority of my gaming on the phone. Fucking Kung Fu is amazing.

6/24/2010 11:05:30 PM
^ There is actually a pretty large Eris community out there. I dont actually know anyone who has an Eris who doesnt use it with Gmail / Google Apps or Exchange, I didnt realize businesses still used other products
6/25/2010 12:14:30 AM
This and K9 would change Dave's phone in a MAJOR WAY. I can not imagine not running a custom rom now:http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=551
6/25/2010 3:02:26 AM
^^I agree about the size of the community but when I look I see a bunch of people talking about how awesome the phone is and look at the cool new theme I made. It just seems that there's not nearly the development with it. I guess I'm going to need to start looking again since it has been a while. Also, pretty much everyone that I know that works for a small business still uses pop3 hosted accounts. The cost of exchange just isn't justifiable for many of us. I'm looking at moving us over to the free google apps but I'm not sure what's going to happen there yet.^Downloading K9 now. No rooting though. After looking into it last night, it's not possible with my phone. I have the 1.49 bootloader and they can't root it.

Good to hear. Several of them have popped up on CL the past couple of days so I'm going to try to look at one this weekend and see if I like it. I wish they weren't backordered from Verizon since we have 5 accounts up for renewal. I'd get one through them to try out and pawn my pos off on someone else.
