It really sounds like Creecy is waiting to see what Crisp does from what I read.I'd love to get early commitments from both, but I just don't see Crisp committing early. You'd think some of these high profile recruits would commit early and help bring in monster classes like Glennon/Barnes did for us. After those 2 we eventually would get Manning and Mattes as well. I guess it would be hard to turn down getting wined-and-dined on some official visits though.
3/24/2009 10:13:14 PM
^^Creecy looks like a beast, but you've got to give props to Southern Durham's QB. The balls were generally right on the money. He looks to be a miget, but the dude can throw.
3/25/2009 12:06:58 AM
that QB is pretty damn good. he threw a nice pass on the curl to the outside shoulder, not even counting the TD's with blitzes coming
3/25/2009 1:08:00 AM
Creecy's profile on Rivals was updated and we are the only school that was upgraded to "High Interest"! A new article currently on the Wolfpacker's front page has a teaser saying "Creecy still favoring the Pack?", so I guess he is. I really hope we land him. Getting him would definitely quiet some of the idiots criticizing TOB & Co. about their lack of attention to the home state just one year after we dominated in-state recruiting.
3/25/2009 7:28:02 PM
The depth in NC seems to be really good this year. It would definitely be a fine class to dominate.
3/25/2009 11:24:08 PM
remember we have a lower # of scholarships to handout this year, so don't get your panties in a wad if we don't have a huge rush of commitments early. i'm sure we're gonna be more selective with our offers this year
3/25/2009 11:41:48 PM
true, but if you can get 5 or 6 of the best players in the state, you can claim domination.
3/26/2009 12:04:23 AM
at this point, disreguarding attrition that occurs by the end of the season, how many scholarships do we have to give? Thank you Harrison Beck for opening up another slot.
3/26/2009 8:17:33 AM
Well we have to find out who qualifies in the 2009 class first.
3/26/2009 8:48:59 AM
We'll have ~16 seniors on the team this year. Baker very well might get a 6th year, dropping that number to 15.Additionally, we are 2 over the 85 limit for next year, and if all of our recruits qualify, then we might (pure speculation) yank the scholarships from two senior walk-ons (George and Tedder). That might drop our # of seniors to 13. But it's more likely that some freshmen won't qualify so we won't have to resort to that.Look for 15 spots plus any extra attrition. Any non-qualifying freshmen who re-commit would be included in that 15.(and Beck would have been a senior this year anyway, so him leaving doesn't open any new spots for the 2010 recruiting class)[Edited on March 26, 2009 at 10:23 AM. any news on michael lemon?
3/26/2009 10:25:57 AM
^^based on standard attrition/non-qualifiers...I am guessing we take a 20-23 man class.

sorry for the double post...too late to edit but Crip's visit to UGA was shorter than expected and he did not commit; good news for us

i honestly don't care about Nx posting where "N" is a value > 1. Especially if its more news items in recruiting

I'm trying to make a map of the commitments for this class just like that guy did for the ACC a couple years back. Can someone confirm if this works?http://tinyurl.com/d8h2lpAny suggestions would be welcomed

i think i'm going to add some of the offers we have out there just because it looks so barealso, because i haven't anything better to do
3/26/2009 4:26:48 PM
are you gonna use a different icon to indicate offers vs. commits?
3/26/2009 4:38:17 PM
yeah, i'm using tuffy for the commits and pins for the offers, at least for now.
3/26/2009 4:47:32 PM
That map is awesome, it will be really nice once we have a bunch of commits on there.
3/26/2009 4:55:08 PM

well, it's finished. i spent way, way too much time on this.http://tinyurl.com/ch2nuai think i'll run it a little like the chart, like if a guy commits to another school, i'll leave the schools logo up there for a couple of weeks.

this thread is much more interesting than bball recruiting thread
3/30/2009 1:06:53 AM
I should not have looked at those rivals interviews when I was drunk, I'm already way too hyped about football season[Edited on March 30, 2009 at 1:16 AM. Reason : .]

3/30/2009 8:42:20 AM
just out of curiousity, is it more interesting than the bball thread because you're not happy with the b-ball team's (at least) 19th ranked recruiting class coming in?but i too am hyped about the football season, hyped as i've been in quite a while. really looking forward to the spring game.[Edited on March 30, 2009 at 8:50 AM. 3/30/2009 8:47:05 AM
^no, this one is more interesting because there is less BS going on in itat least for nowAlso, this thread didn't make me angry by alerting to CJ Leslie reopening his recruiting.[Edited on March 30, 2009 at 8:49 AM. Reason : .]
3/30/2009 8:48:18 AM
get over it....he's one of the best players in the country and he committed too early. No way in hell UNC had 2000 people at their spring game. Maybe 1000, but I heard estimates between 500-1000. No rain.

it'll be neat if TOB can eventually get a pipeline with OH set up. a bunch of good players from that area.

3/31/2009 4:09:59 PM
It looks better on the football recruiting thread on PP. It doesn't translate as well here for obvious reasons.
3/31/2009 6:06:27 PM
The difference in basketball and football recruiting is that even though the basketball class sits at 19, you know Duke and UNC (and usually Wake in the 5-10 area) are going to be top 5, and if they aren't it's because they don't have enough scholarships available, as was the case with UNC in the spring of 07, hence they do not have any sophomores making an impact but still do well. With regards to football, it's much harder to rate a class when someone is 18. In basketball, it's not a pure science, but recruiting classes can be much more accurately assessed than football. You're also talking sheer numbers. If they're 85 guys on scholarship on an NCAA football team, and only 12 in hoops, that tells me there are 6 times as many football recruits, and scout and rivals don't have the man power to rate them fairly or accurately, and couple that with the fact that's it's more difficult to rate football recruits anyway and it's an interesting recipe with regards to football recruiting. The only coach I ever saw that could win consistently with marginal recruits in hoops was Bobby Knight, and he couldn't do that today. In football, Utah and Boise State have been BCS contenders with "marginal" recruits along with many other programs that are top 25.
3/31/2009 6:15:31 PM
Knight only had marginal recruits? What?If you're talking about kids without national attention, Mark Few does an amazing job at Gonzaga.
3/31/2009 8:52:06 PM
Knight got local Indiana (and some in other parts of the Midwest) talent and won 3 national titles. Dean got All-Americans from all over and only won 2. That's one reason why I always have thought Knight was a better coach. Knight also went undefeated, which Dean never did.
3/31/2009 9:03:53 PM
its not even a knock on Dean...its just props to Knight, which he deserves
3/31/2009 9:09:20 PM
