There is no dumbass trolling about it sir.

I got like that once. It was when I first started years ago with online PLAY MONEY poker.

I can't help his choice of terminology lead to a mild dose of ambiguity. Next time I'll be sure to spend several posts tiptoeing around the intended meaning of what he was trying to say so that I don't sweep any more sand into your vagina.

"I just arrived in Connecticut last night, so I hit Foxwoods today. They have an interesting rake structure in which they take no rake, but they require a $5 fee every 30 minutes. I ended the night up $220, but it could have been more (lost $120 to a preflop all-in, I had QQ to AQ off).

I had the best poker play of my life tonight too. To preface this, let me say that I have read through "Mike Caro's Book of Poker Tells." It's very interesting reading, and I have read through it fully twice already. Anyways, here's the hand: I was dealt 33 and a guy that had been playing really aggressively all night raised it to $12 preflop. I called, and the flop was Q74 with 2 hearts.

The guy who initially raised quickly glanced down at his cards and then threw out a $25 bet. Two other players folded and the action was on me. At that very instant, I did something I have never done before. I paused for about 10 seconds, collected myself, and put him on Ax of hearts. Now granted, I had no idea what this "x" was. I really didn't think he had the queen, but we'll get back to that later. The reason I put him on Ax was because he raised every A preflop religiously, and the flush draw came from the tell of glancing at his cards after a flop with 2 of a suit. The fact that I didn't feel he had the queen was more of a logic play than anything. When somone has AQ suited, they remember exactly what cards they have. AQ suited is a really pretty hand, as far as poker hands go. There would be no need to look at your cards to see if you have AQ suited.

So I call the $25 bet. The next card is a 2, no heart. This time he bets $40. Well, I decide to stick with my original read and I call. The last card is a J, once again an over, but once again, you remember AJ suited. He looks at me, looks down, and quickly bets $120 and glances up at me as if to judge my reaction. By this time, the pot was right around $180, of which I had contributed $77. I wanted so bad to fold. Calling $120 on the river with just pocket 3's while there are 4 overs out there is quite annerving. He sure as hell was attempting to represent either the Q or even an overpair. Losing $77 sucks, but losing $197 would have crippled me. I really believed he was on a flush draw, but I have been wrong before. Plus, even if my read was accurate, what was the "x"? I wasn't so much worried about the Q or J, but the 7 and 4 were scary as shit. Sheepishly, I said, "I'm sorry you missed your flush draw" and threw the $120 in chips in and flipped over 33. Everyone at the table was like "oh shit." The guy got a pissed off look and threw his hand in the middle. I wasn't even worried about the pot. I told the dealer to stop shuffling the chips, and that I wanted to see his hand because I had made the call. His cards had landed in a way such that they could easily be unmucked, and the dealer grabbed them and flipped over A9 of hearts. My heart skipped a beat. I could not believe I had just made that play.

The next hour was a blur. I ended up cashing out, and not really getting involved with anymore big pots. I have never made a play like that before, and who knows if I ever will again. I totally attribute the win to me reading that book, and trying to pick up on tells that I normally pay no attention to.

This is common at all limit holdem games 10/20 and above, and NL games 2/5 and above. I beleive that FW does a time charge for 1/2 also, but the max buy for the 1/2 is $100.... seems quite a bit of a low buy in. The $5 every half hour is pretty substantial when you are paying 10% of your starting stack every hour. Compare that to a 10/20 limit game or something, where its 0.5 BB/hour. Just to beat the "rake" in the 1/2 NL game you need to crush it for >17BB/100.......

From what I read, the 1/2 NL is pretty much an all-in push fest. due to the short stacks. You can build up heavy, and many do however.

How was the waitlist at FW? The room is enormous, but ive heard awfull things aout the wait...

btw, great read. Thats one I would have dumped on the flop

I learned that the ability to adjust is probably one of the more important skills one needs at a poker table. I have become quite comfortable playing at a table full of people (8-10) where I can easily play position because in that setup I tend not to overvalue hands. It is in the smaller games when I rely on the strength of my hand in relation to the odds of someone having the same card I have with a stronger kicker where I run into trouble. Everyone knows what to do with AK and KK. But what do you do with highcard/lowcard of the same suit or an Ace with an okay kicker 4 handed? Usually I would fold these types of hands unless I was in a spot where I could confidently call (based on what people did before me) but I feel that I must some how get in a pot with a overvalued hand simply because I think many of the other players are doing so also. I know it sounds simplistic but I am trying every aspect of my play, no matter how mudane and insignificant it may seem.

Yeah, it does kinda suck, but it forces the action a little, which I kind of like. I am not at all upset at how I played my QQ. I overbet them like hell making it look like a bluff, and got a caller. The way it went down was I was small blind. There was a raiser to $12, and 1 caller. I had only been there for about 20 minutes and had played only 1 hand in which I went all-in on after the flop and got no callers, so I appeared to be one of those "all-in guys" (but I am certainly not one of those guys at all). Anyway, I raised $100 to about $110. The big blind thought about it and called (with only $80), and the first raiser folded, as well as the initial caller. I played my QQ just like I want to, all-in pre-flop. Unfortunately, I got a suckout loss. No biggie.

got to the end of a multi table, 4 people left. i was 3rd place at that point. had Q10o. flop came 5 9 10. chip leader (had like 10x my chips) bet out half my stack. he was SB and just called at first, so i figured he had a pair (if anything) and was stabbing at it so i called. i was gonna go all in but i knew he'd call anyway, was kinda worried he might have an overcard too. next card out was a 2. he put me all in just like i knew he would. i called

KOL... sorry dude. That was still the toughest call i ever made.

But the last hand of the night/morning was the WORST beat i've seen in a long long time

3 handed game, 25/50 blinds

dealer/utg (me) have ~$155
SB has about $250
BB has about $75

I fold... SB makes it $5 to go. BB calls.

Flop: 10 8 3 Rainbow. SB Bets ~$10... BB Raises $10 more. SB Goes all in. After about 30-45 seconds of consderation, he calls.

SB flips AA
BB Flips 8 4 suited

Turn J

River 4

Moronically brutal. This guy had been making the same play all night. Raising with crap and hitting. Or calling down with bottom/no pair and catching. All the while talking of how he had great reads on us (Though he reraised me earlier when i had quad 8s, and already had another caller in the hand to my bet on the river - when he had A high), knew our tells, and he had won a shiton of money elsewhere. I've played with him 2 times and never seen him win with a "big" hand. It's always like this... How the SB didn't deck him, I haven't figured out yet, as I surely would've.

I've had a lot of bad beats the last four times I've played poker..

All w/ people who didn't know what they were doing... lol

The funniest one so far was...

Guy makes a medium raise pre-flop.

I was already in w/ my A-J suited and I call along w/ a few other people.

This guy was the biggest stack at the table and I was second biggest stack. He was also the worst player at the table. Ironic how that works out...

So flop comes A 7 9 (rainbow) and the guy sits there and stares at the flop FOR-EV-ER... and finally says "I'm all in!!"

Well this is free poker so I didn't contemplate too long and I call.

Turn (no difference)

River... 3.

He says! "Man that's great!!!! I am soooo good at poker!!!!! I rule!!!"

Turns over pocket 3s. I simply ask him: "Wanna play a cash game?"

last night
"free poker" at The Point on Glenwood
six-handed
middle possition, i get pocket 4s
i limped in, blinds and one caller in front of me
with three in the pot, the cut off raises from 400 to 1200 (he's a spuratic player and often raises with random bs that i wouldn't limp with)
everyone calls, maybe a blind folded...i don't rememeber
flop 4x,5c,9c
1st bets
i raise ... get re-raised ... original pre-flop raiser folds ... 1st calls ... i move all in ... and they both call.
so, yeah, one is on the nut flush draw with Ac, 10c, but my all-in was a lot...i wouldn't have expected him to call. and the other caller (1st) has A,9 os, so, just top pair on the board.
anyhow, i dodged the flush...and picked up the case 4 on the turn. it was huge.
i think that was maybe the third or fourth hand i had played after three rounds of blinds. i nursed my chips, made a couple of good calls, couple of bad calls ... but ended up winning.
yay.
fear the 4s!

^^ Props!

Let me ask y'all another question.... in your live games, have you ever seen one person completely own another person. No matter what they have, they always can get the other on tilt and take his money.

The person who was listed as the recipient of the bad bead from ^10 or so ago tosses my neighbor around like a rag doll. It's not all luck, like he gets outkicked or suckedout. But he perfectly advertises his bluffs, and sets him upf or the kill, and always get him to bet into the nuts.

Last night it was the strong player rebuying after a brutal beat for $40 that put him on tilt. He was so afraid of him having more chips than he did, that he pissed away his $ in 10 hands, including going all in for over $10 preflop with 6 9 suited. Last week he whined like a little bitch when the strong player called to come over late after leaving another game.

But I am almost convinced that he could play all his hands against my neighbor face up, and still completely dominate him. He should just hand the stong player $40 every week and let him kick him in the balls.

Ah but the way you talk about the poor "weaker" player...

You would think this isn't just a poker thing, but a man-to-man kind of battle.

That's just referencing...

It's like you're actually questioning the manhood of this guy instead of his poker skills and this IS a poker thread, but hey- that's just how I read it. I'm sure you're not actually calling one a weaker person and the other a stronger person at all.
