maverick rowan reclassifying to 2015...hopefully we get a visit before he decides
6/22/2015 9:39:12 AM
I really want to land this kid, but damn, I feel like we are stock-piling wings. The situation is just ripe for a transfer or two in the next couple years. With that being said...let the cream rise to the top (as long as that cream has Kirk involved, so he can bring Smith and Bam to State).
6/22/2015 10:09:47 AM
So what's the current landscape on guard depth for next year?
6/22/2015 10:16:30 AM
For '15 we've got Martin, Martin, Henderson, and Kirk. If we sign this kid, that obviously makes 5 guards...then 6 with Dorn in '16.With that being said, you could possibly spread those five guards out between 4 spots. One Martin can play the point, while Kirk and the other Martin could possibly put in some minutes at the 4. But realistically, these are all SG/SF guys.[Edited on June 22, 2015 at 10:36 AM. ^^^Don't over analyze it. The evidence is clear this is how we are going to roll with Gott. I'm fine with it.[Edited on June 22, 2015 at 10:33 AM. Reason : V]

Barber is strictly PG....none of those guys are listed as point (with maybe one of the Martins being able to log a few minutes there...possibly Henderson).
6/22/2015 11:35:53 AM
Yah I think Henderson said it was something he wanted to work on...not that encouraging (in terms of having a solid backup)
6/22/2015 11:37:15 AM
^^you said guards, Barber is def a guard. The Martins are also closer to SF who could play sg then vice versa.
6/22/2015 12:33:36 PM
I said "wings". I called them guards in a later post because that's what they are.Wings are 2s and 3s. Every guy I listed (Martin, Martin, Kirk, Henderson, Dorn, Rowan)...their primary position is the 2/3. You're making this more difficult than it should be. Read carefully next time.

I mean this is a stupid argument but the guy asked about guards and you responded with a post that did NOT mention "wings" and said this
6/22/2015 1:37:59 PM
Zagoria posted last night that Rowan is down to UCLA, St. John's, Louisville, & Wisconsin, but it seems as if he's since edited that post.
6/22/2015 1:40:03 PM
I read somewhere on twitter (might've been Zags) last night that we arent in his top 4

6/22/2015 2:18:32 PM
nice
6/22/2015 2:22:05 PM
Btw, as to the question of too many wings, I say take em. We need bodies next year. We have unproven assets at those 2-4 spots so options help. Not to mention just having bodies for depth (practice, injuries, fatigue)
6/22/2015 2:43:22 PM
Barber being our point guard is about the only "given" for next year. He's about the only "penciled in", "going to give us 30+ minutes", "sure thing" we have on the team.2-5 is all up for grabs and the only thing worth discussion. That's why its pointless to bring Barber up. The only reason to even bring the point guard position into discussion is to talk about who could possibly give us a couple minutes when Barber is tired, in foul trouble, and [knockonfuckingwood]injured[/knockonfuckingwood].I'm also fine with having a ton of wings. 2/3/4s have been interchangeable in college basketball for a while now and are slowly getting that way in the NBA (hello NBA champions!). I can also see a transfer or two in the future because of it...but we always have those anyways, so bring it on.
6/22/2015 3:02:06 PM
hell, golden state's backup PG regularly guarded 4's in the playoffs.
6/22/2015 3:09:35 PM
I think 5 only depends on Freeman's health/availability and Anya's conditioning. With Freeman unavailable, seemsAbu will start and Anya wwould spell him. All 3 of those guys are relatively known quantities. Hopefully offseason work will improve Anyas conditioning and defensive footwork/positioning and Abu's strength and overall offensive post game. Freeman is a known quantity at this point.NC State is not the Warriors. And Livingston is 6'7" and a former top 5 draft pick. [Edited on June 22, 2015 at 3:55 PM. Reason : A]

^^ Depends on if one of the Martins can bulk up enough to play good minutes at the four. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go big a lot with Anya at the 5 and Abu at the 4. Abu wants to play the four in the NBA...so I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up next year with a better face-up game.Early indications are that Freeman might red-shirt next year to recover from his surgery. If we don't get the Greek, we're going to be extremely thin in the front-court.
6/22/2015 4:25:32 PM
Right, which is why Anya's conditioning is key. Otherwise any flexibility goes out the window. If Freeman redshirt we are fucked.

My pt is that GS played that way out of luxury, we would be playing that way out of necessity
6/22/2015 5:23:11 PM
So it pretty much sounds like Smith is a done deal to State...just a matter of when he announces. Said he'll probably announce in Fall. And it also sounds like Bam is going wherever Smith goes. Bam should also be shooting up the rankings...he crushed it at a recent camp. He's at 25 and guys are saying he should be top 10.The big Greek is also coming to the States in July and will visit two schools...us and Oregon.Things could be looking up fellas. Knock on wood...cross your fingers...all that shit.
6/24/2015 11:19:03 AM
Just out of curiosity since it was a little before my time, when we were recruiting Atsur did the fanbase just refer to him as The Turk?
6/24/2015 11:50:23 AM
People mostly just referred to him as a "Euro Player" which annoyed me because Turkish People aren't European.
6/24/2015 1:03:09 PM
Some fans called him Turkish Delight
6/24/2015 1:03:15 PM
6/24/2015 1:22:55 PM
I don't think we called him Turkish Delight until he started playing though. And depending on where in Istanbul he was born, he could very well be European or Asian

Every time I see this thread bumped I get my hopes up that Smith and Bam have committed.
6/24/2015 9:58:03 PM
I'm hearing lots of the same...some of the old guys mad about transfers have changed their tone since they've heard highest rated basketball class in...YEARS.Mix that with a decent year this year...and we stand a chance to run the ACC soon with athletes.
6/25/2015 2:44:07 AM
I'll believe it when it happens. Until then, I'll expect the worst.
6/25/2015 9:48:16 AM
even if it happens, i will still expect the worst.
6/25/2015 9:52:33 AM
this won't happen
6/25/2015 10:06:33 AM
Just waiting for the inevitable "Coach Cal or K have decided to make a late push and go all in for Smith and Bam" followed by all of our heads exploding.
6/25/2015 10:13:21 AM
6/25/2015 10:40:27 AM
^^ K has already tried recruiting Smith. Not saying he won't go back harder after him next year, but he has Thornton who is a '15 recruit that is likely not a one and done. Smith grew up a State fan and wants to be the starting PG from day one and then leave for the NBA. He loves Gott and Early, loves State, loves our offense...and Cat is 99% gone after this year. It's the perfect storm. Icing on the cake...Bam loves Smith, wants to play with him, and also likes State.Only way I can see us fucking this up is if we are absolutely horrible this year. Even then, we still might get them (as long as we don't get rid of Gott).
6/25/2015 11:53:10 AM
I have questions about whether Cat will leave after this year. Seems like he'd have to play as well as he did in a few games last season for the entire season to get a chance to go in the first or even second round.
6/25/2015 12:02:21 PM
6/25/2015 12:09:09 PM
^^ I don't think it matters. He's gone regardless. He's got a kid, he only wanted to be here for two years to begin with, and its time for him to make some money. Coaches, players, and future recruits know that he's planning on leaving after next year. If it's not the NBA, then he'll go overseas. It's money time.
6/25/2015 12:17:21 PM
oh yeah, forgot about the kid. that makes sense.
