Is the problem with the school being accredited?
8/16/2012 12:57:20 PM
^^exactly, which makes you wonder who missed the issue earlier.[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Reason : ]

I think it would be in NCAA issue.I don't know who else graduated with Rodney, but some of them probably went on to college. Are they enrolled in school? If they were able to pass through admissions, you would assume it wouldn't be a university problem.
8/16/2012 1:05:35 PM
didn't he already enroll and attend 2nd summer session classes? i thought i read that, maybe it's wrong.
8/16/2012 1:08:33 PM
8/16/2012 1:13:32 PM
Purvis did attend the 2nd summer session classes, I remember a tweet he sent to some ESPN guy about him and Lewis not playing in the pro-am for one night because they had to study for a test they had the next day. It seems like NCSU thought everything was in order with his transcript, Upper Room needs to get this shit sorted out right now. This is bullshit for everyone involved.
8/16/2012 1:13:48 PM
I don't understand how not letting him attend classes is going to help anyone in anyway.
8/16/2012 1:30:01 PM
Given the UNC situation, it appears the NCAA just doesn't want their athletes attending class
8/16/2012 1:33:20 PM
well in a worst case scenario, where Rodney has to go to a JUCO for a few semesters, it probably would be better if he never attended any classes at State
8/16/2012 1:35:30 PM
8/16/2012 1:36:47 PM
If he enrolls in class and is then ruled ineligible, he can't play until 2013-14. Not enrolling now could potentially allow him to join the team in January if he's ruled ineligible for Fall. It's probably NCSU not letting him enroll, in order to protect his future eligibility.
8/16/2012 1:38:11 PM
it's obvious what happened here. one of our master hackers over at PackPride hacked the NCAA's servers to make it appear that Purvis was eligible. However, when UNC set up the honeypot on their root access servers, the same master hacker got caught and they were able to track his movements through a Visual Basic GUI and they saw similar attack patterns as what happened on the NCAA servers. >.<

8/16/2012 1:46:12 PM
So even if he is found eligible before play starts in October, what's the honest likelihood that he's going to actually be able to play before spring semester begins? Without being able to attend classes now, he's not going to be allowed to jump into them like nothing happened in two months...
8/16/2012 1:50:03 PM
August 29 is the last day he can be declared eligible for Fall, according to PP.[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 1:52 PM. Reason : Basically it doesn't look good.]
8/16/2012 1:52:05 PM
I'd think he'd be more than welcome to enroll anytime before the final day to add classes. Looks like it's August 29th this year. After that, they'd have to change school policy to get him in and I don't think that's a road we need to go down.Edit: ^ Looks like I got beat...]
8/16/2012 1:54:44 PM
If I'm Rodney I give this until the 29th then I go sign a pro contract in Europe

Student-athlete graduates from a new, but accredited, high school: keep him from playingUniversity funnels student-athletes into fake classes: nothing to see here
8/16/2012 2:13:35 PM
Isnt it State holding him out for eligibility purposes? In other words he is fine to start school here but they don't want him to in case he is ruled not eligible for athletics, which would work against his four years of eligibility?NCAA is doing the same thing with Ricardo Ledo's transcript at PC, no?
8/16/2012 3:20:25 PM
^^ situations aren't analogous at allit's that mindset that drives me the craziest
8/16/2012 3:23:36 PM
Yeah, NCAA does this nearly every year to a handful of kids. Pretty standard op but it sucks when it's one of ours.UNC thing will be re-opened if it needs to be. No doubt in my mind about that.
8/16/2012 3:25:43 PM
The point is, is that it's ludacris that kids aren't allowed to be a part of their team (which Purvis has not been, e.g. couldn't go to spain) simply because they came from a new school. Meanwhile, a university is running rampant with academic fraud involving student athletes and the NCAA is looking the other way. It's not direct analogy between the two situations. It's a statement of the stupidity of NCAA rules/procedures. I know that what is happening to purvis happens every year. That's irrelevant. Does the NCAA care about academics or not? Looking at purvis's situation, they appear to care quite a bit. Looking at UNC, they don't seen to care at all.[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 3:32 PM. Reason : .]

wdprice sounds like some SFN tard
8/16/2012 3:38:51 PM
so no one else here sees how the ncaa is treating two situations revolving academics differently; and by thinking such I'm a loon? It's pretty clear. NCAA cares a lot about academics in one setting but not in another setting.ok[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 3:41 PM. Reason : .]
8/16/2012 3:40:10 PM
you know why they they are treating these situations differently?it's because they're different and the NCAA isn't even on the Purvis case, it's all self-imposed
8/16/2012 3:41:24 PM
it is a bit of a double standard. so admissions are an NCAA matter and not left to the university yet, the classes the athletes are (or aren't) taking is not.^ -- yea that's true they are different situations. what i can't believe is that purvis isn't even in class. silly side effect to me.. you would think if the university was OK with it, err on the side of educating the kid, hah.[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 3:44 PM. Reason : .]
8/16/2012 3:42:26 PM
As has been mentioned, it may be NCSU that's holding him out of classes (not the ncaa), in case he's ruled ineligible, it could hurt him to have already enrolled (lost year of eligibility or maybe other disadvantages)[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 3:53 PM. Reason : V yeah, i edited that part out. my bad]
8/16/2012 3:44:16 PM
^^^you people are thick. certainly the details are different; however, the general idea that academics matter to the ncaa is what's not consistent.and the ncaa is on the case... the ncaa is reviewing his high school; not ncsu. ncaa rules don't allow summer tours without being cleared, which the ncaa hasn't done. so yeh.^uh, you got my post backwards. I said the purvis situation makes it looks like the NCAA DOES care about academics; the unc situation makes it look like the NCAA DOESN'T care about academics.I'm not talking about classes; I said PLAYING. but ncsu holding him from entering classes is a direct impact of the NCAA's actions, so at least tangentially related.[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 3:56 PM. 8/16/2012 3:44:34 PM
i'm hopeful this thing will have a yes/no answer before the deadlineit'd be fucked if he was found eligible after it was too late
8/16/2012 3:53:56 PM
I guess I missed the part where the NCAA already ruled on the latest stuff to come out of Carolina by giving them a pat on the back.[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 4:03 PM. Reason : We're gonna make fun of IC dudes then turn around and act just like them]
8/16/2012 4:00:05 PM
NCAA has been quiet on the issue; and didn't the NCAA release a statement a while back saying they don't plan on investigating (closer to when the fake classes issue broke)?
8/16/2012 4:01:51 PM
Why are you asking me? You obviously have all the facts, considering how well thought-out your thesis is.

8/16/2012 4:04:11 PM
no, they didn'tmaybe in your paranoid world in which everybody is out to get you they didthe fact that you are unable to distinguish one issue (something that the NCAA does for every athlete in every sport) from another (an incredibly fluid, possibly unprecedented issue) is absolutely ridiculous[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 4:06 PM. Reason : but none of that matters because obviously the NCAA hates NC State and wants to fuck them over]
8/16/2012 4:04:49 PM
GOOD ONE, TROLL! Shit doesn't even make sense.so paranoid and I did distinguish the two situations. you lack the ability to look at the general stance of the ncaa on academic issues. a quick search shows this: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/8243813/academic-scandal-embroils-north-carolina-tar-heels-ncaa-stays-quietwhich is getting at the basic idea behind the ncaa regarding the unc scandal; though from a reporter's perspective and not the NCAAs. I don't really care to continue to search; it's possible I remember incorrectly, but the idea was not my own; I may have simply mis-atributed it to the ncaa.[Edited on August 16, 2012 at 4:10 PM.
