I don't know, Charlie. I think Desmond will do something regarding the light, but I don't know if he'll go into it. I think that no good could come of Desmond, or anyone for that matter, going into the light.

Also, I lol'd when Sawyer played the voice of the fans when Jack took the job and Sawyer said, "I thought that guy had a God complex before." And then Kate, in one of her coolest moments, basically told Sawyer to stfu.

this episode reminded me about fate and free will and how im still nowhere near coming to a decision on either one with respect to this show just as i was a few months ago

I don't think the show is going to end up being about free will. That would be the ultimate twist, though

^ well jacob brought up the whole thing about how the remaining candidates have a choice. he also told hurley he had a choice when he gave him the guitar case with the ankh inside. and he pretty much told ben he had a choice when locke brought ben inside the statue to kill jacob. jacob's whole argument with MiB was that people have a choice and don't always have to corrupt, kill, destroy, whatever the phrase was that MiB used.

it's always been about free will for jacob, but, like MiB told sawyer, he pushed each one of the candidates to the island. so choices they thought they were making were never really their choices at all. 815 crashing and their survival was ultimately the culimination of all those little things jacob did to interfere with their lives. it's like he had to ensure that they would get to the island to get them to prove that it was all about free will, which is completely contrary to the idea of free will, so i'm sure i'm probably missing some key detail somewhere along the way.

^^^ I don't know if it's fair to say that it's always been about free will for Jacob. I think it's more accurate to say that for Jacob, it's always been about proving that there is an intrinsic good in man, a good nature, and that man cannot always be corrupted or driven to destruction.

So will jackob be able to make people immortal now? I still feel certain the alternate timeline is going to be the key to how the show ends. You guys aren't talking about it so that probably means you've read a spoiler that ruled it out.

I still can't understand how you guys can enjoy a show while constantly combing the internet to find all the spoilers, interviews etc. So lame.

I liked last night's episode... I'm glad they explained why the F smokey didn't just fly everywhere.

Anyway, I was a little disappointed it was Jack that volunteered I was hoping LOST would switch it up and make Hurley the protector of the island.

Also, I'm starting to get a little discouraged about Lapidus.... :\

^i still don't think Jack is quite safe. He asked how long he had to do this job and Jacob said for as long as you can. That could end up being an hour into the finale until Smokey tells Ben not to speak to him and kill him and then it starts over again to who will replace Jacob-Jack. I just don't feel like this part is quite over.

Is Jack married? His son's mother is Kate... and Desmond said he was taking her to a concert. I assumed that was what Jack and his kid were talking about at breakfast, and that Jack and Desmond had the whole thing worked out to rescue her.

I don't remember him having another wife

I agree with Jeepin...it seems too easy that Jack would be the next longtime protector of the light, too predictable. I think something is gonna go down with that.

toemoss, I don't think Des taking Kate to the concert shows that she is the mother of Jack's kid. Desmond is just trying to get everybody (Juliet possibly included) in one place. At first, I thought it would be the hospital, but now I think it's going to be the concert hall. I would be very surprised if Juliet isn't the kid's mother

^2 Yeah, I agree with the concert hall being the place where shit will go down... Why did he say Anna Lucia wasn't "ready yet"? I'm glad to see her makin a comeback on the show though!

I keep holding out hope Lapidus will come out of nowhere and will be all PYAHHH and destroy Smokey. Just a thought. I know it has no ground but I want to see something totally unexpected like that happen.

FUCKKKK I just saw this

^^^agreed, i think it's going to be this big revelation sequence at the concert hall where a chain of events sends everyone looking at each other and flashing instantly (mentally not physically) between the sideways and real world.

Desmond and Kate are there to essentially crash it. The concert is hosted by Miles' father (Dr. Chang) and we already know Miles and most likely Sawyer will be there in attendance with Charlotte as well. Jack and Claire will be there to support his son, as well as Jack's ex-wife (i'm thinking Juliet still). I have a feeling Sayid and Hurley will be left to round up some of the final pieces like Libby, Locke, Jin/Sun, Ben and Alex too perhaps.

Perhaps at the conclusion of this there will be an ultimate "choice" of what to do next.

So that little chant that Jacob said that made the water magic... maybe Jacob should have taught that to Jack. Jack is going to have to one day find a replacement too.

I still really wish that Jacob would have just told Jack what he is or what his powers are or something like that.

And anyone have any thoughts on how the island heals people? They haven't mentioned it in a while and I doubt they will explain it. Maybe all the water on the island that they've been drinking got mixed in with the light source or something? Still wouldn't explain some things like why some people heal and some don't.

I think the idea is that after drinking the holy water and being told that he is now like Jacob, Jack inherits all of Jacob's island knowledge. Or not.

Quote :

That doesn't work, Locke didn't drink any water before he started walking. I don't think there's gonna be any explanation. The island is magic, it decides who it wants to live or heal or serve some purpose.

I think it all goes back to Jacob bringing people who's lives are fucked to the island and giving them a fresh start. Obviously there are some inconsistencies, but I think that's the basic idea. Some things they need to figure out on their own (Charlies heroin addiction), but the things that you have no control over, the island fixes for you.

Yeah Ben's cancer is the thing that stands out to me too. Although Ben has typically been a villain throughout the show, all of the "bad" things he did in the first few seasons have been the will of Jacob. All the people he ordered kidnapped and stuff were originally on "the List" that Jacob gave him. Everything he did prior to the cancer was essentially for Jacob but he still got the cancer.

Speaking of kidnapping though, that's another thing that we probably won't ever find out... why were all the kids taken from the tailies? Why were some people kidnapped and brainwashed? In fact, where are they now? Where are the rest of the Others? They were originally with Dogen & Co. at the temple right? Half of them stayed and got killed by Smokey and the other joined Smokey before they knew he was evil. What happened to them?

And speaking of The List... the four people left alive right now are the four people that were originally on Jacob's List of people for Michael to bring to The Others. I feel like it's too much to be a coincidence but then Jacob said that anyone could have replaced him, it was just that those were the people that needed it the most so who knows.

he's talking about when Jack jumped off the boat and re-joined locke on the beach. then widmore started bombing the beach. Those others, and the woman whose name escapes me and those kids she's been looking after since 815 crashed are more than likely dead from that.

That would illegitimize all the faith they've imbued their characters with over the course of the series in proving that Jacob was wrong/full of it when he placed so much importance on making sure the light never goes out. The light going out and the characters immediately transferring to the alt reality would be an awful ending, and I think the writers are better than that.

Richard said that Jack could kill him with the TNT. He just couldn't kill himself or die from natural causes. I guess we don't know if that's entirely true or not. But I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Smokey could kill Richard.

And ben killed Jacob with a knife to the gut. While richard has been more prevalent in the show, Jacob is a "bigger" character and it was just a selfish, pussy with a knife who killed him. So in respect to that, did/does Ricardo really deserve a much grander death?

But it's certainly possible smokey just knocked him out and left him in the jungle somewhere.

^Yeah but the difference there is that Jacob "let" Ben stab him. He knew he had the knife, he knew he wanted to kill him, and he didn't stop him because he wanted Ben to make the choice and not interfere with his free will. Also, Jacob probably knew that after he had died he'd still be able to help guide people through Hurley.

Not too important, but I'm kinda wondering how everyone could see/hear him last night. It must have something to do with his ashes in the fire he built. I guess he could probably walk around on the island and talk to Hurley as a ghost as long as he wants but once his ashes have been burned in another fire or something he can appear to everyone for as long as the fire is going.

Side note: So I guess Jacob is with his mother[s] now? Both biological and adopted ones? Were their ghosts roaming around the island this whole time or what?

i always took ben's cancer as a sign that he was never special. somehow people like locke and rose qualify for healing (potential candidates?), but the island doesn't just seem to heal any old sick or injured person who shows up. i know ben said he had seen the island heal the sick, but richard told locke that when the others found out a man had been paralyzed and survived a plane crash and was able to walk again afterwards that it could've only happened to someone very special. and an island that healed everyone presumably wouldn't kill pregnant women either, so there are some kind of rules established whether we find out or not.

but yeah. ben's cancer was just to make his character more tragic, but i've beaten that horse to death in this thread.

I thought it was a little quick that they revealed Jack to be Jacob's replacement.

I have a weird feeling that by the end of the finale, he won't be.... but I don't know...

and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what the smoke monster is.. he is locke now, used to be MiB, used to be mother (perhaps)... so in other words it just inhabits people's bodies...
but what is it and when did it begin?
