Oh I know, that's why I said he's still raw and has great potential. I'm just pointing out that realistically he won't be bowling people over at the college level like that and he's not ready to crack the 2-deep just yet.But I think the sky's the limit for him potential-wise, and then partner him up with TOB and Co., and he's going to be a force to be reckoned with here in a few years. When the '08 class are seniors and the '09 class are juniors, our OL is going to be very good barring injuries or attrition.

http://www.timesdaily.com/article/20090317/ARTICLES/903175027Lions land QB commitment from Wolfpack's BeckHarrison Beck is grateful for second chances and even more grateful for a third chance.Beck, a former quarterback at Nebraska and North Carolina State, will get that third chance at North Alabama. The former starter for the Wolfpack will transfer to UNA this summer and compete with Genario McNealy for the starting job in the fall."It was an easy decision for me," Beck said. "Coach Bowden is an outstanding coach, they have a great staff and they've had great success there in the past few years. It's a second chance - really a third chance for me."I'm honored to have this opportunity, and I appreciate it so much. To get to play again, especially for a man like coach Bowden, means so much to me."Beck was one of the nation's top high school QBs in 2004 at Countyside High School in Clearwater, Fla. He was ranked as the nation's No. 3 pro-style quarterback by Rivals.com, the nation's No. 58 player overall and No. 4 quarterback by Tom Lemming's recruiting service. He signed with Nebraska and appeared on his way to a redshirt season in 2005. When starter Zac Taylor was injured in the next to last game, Beck was thrust into action. He led the Cornhuskers on the game-winning drive against Kansas State and also played briefly in the final game against Colorado. After going through spring practice at Nebraska, Beck left before the start of the 2006 season, transferring to North Carolina State."I wasn't happy at Nebraska, and I wanted to get back to the East," Beck said. "I really liked coach (Chuck) Amato and felt like I would be much more comfortable playing at North Carolina State."Beck had to sit out the 2006 season, and Amato was fired that year. Beck stayed at N.C. State, starting four games and throwing for 903 yards and two touchdowns with nine interceptions. This past season, Beck came off the bench to throw for 246 yards and two touchdowns in a win against William & Mary. He started in a loss to South Florida, but did not play in the Wolfpack's final seven regular season games before playing briefly in the papajohns.com bowl."It was tough when the new staff came in at N.C. State," Beck said. "I had to learn a new offense for three straight years. But I worked hard and did the best I could to help my team win."With one year of eligibility remaining, Beck decided to transfer after he graduates this spring. His former coach, Amato, is now a member of Bobby Bowden's staff at Florida State, and through them Beck learned that Terry Bowden was at UNA."I could only transfer to a Division II or NAIA school," Beck said. "I was looking for one of the best Division II programs, and coach Amato told me about coach Bowden being at UNA. I checked into it and everything just clicked."At 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Beck has prototype size for a college quarterback. He said he is confident in his ability, but he also knows that nothing will be handed to him at UNA."I'm going to work as hard as I can and I hope to step right in and play," Beck said. "But nothing in football is guaranteed. I'm going to approach it like I will be the starter, but I'm sure the other quarterbacks are approaching it the same way."I want to coach football, and the opportunity to learn from coach Bowden is something I couldn't pass up. I'm excited to play at a place where you can compete for a national championship. That's why you play the game."

News: Beck transfers to division II school.NC State shit: He'll break every division II passing record and will be a starting NFL QB in <5 years.

haha, i thought it was talking about the Detroit Lions. they could probably use him at this point.
3/18/2009 11:26:08 AM
Haha I did too. I'm glad for him that he's moved on and found something else. That really sucks to move around that much just to play some football. And it really sucks that he was that highly touted and ranked coming out of high school and never lived up to his potential.
3/18/2009 12:00:22 PM
players with serious attitude problems don't live up to potential....its just some NC State shit that we end up with several of them on major sports teams at the same time.

I had forgotten all about Terry Bowden.

I know this has nothing to do with recruiting, but does anyone know how the Pro day went today? I heard bradley pierson ran a 4.45
3/18/2009 9:25:36 PM
pierson ran a 4.44 40 and had a 35.5 inch vertical Donald Bowens was running around with Brown and looked healthyAntoine Holmes ran a 4.87 40 on grass. Not bad for 290 lb guy.
3/18/2009 10:36:48 PM
wait, Bowens wasn't running, was he?I thought the big news was he was walking without a limbp.[Edited on March 18, 2009 at 10:43 PM. Reason : you mean running like just hanging out with? ][Edited on March 18, 2009 at 10:44 PM. Reason : .]

i see bowens every now and then and after he was released from his back injury he was playing a pick up basketball game and messed up either his acl or mcl in his knee and wasnt sure if he would be ready by the start of the season. i think he had sugrey on sigining day. if he has recovered enough to be running around already thats good news.

So how many players do we take in this class? How many for each position?I'd like to see us take 3 OL, preferably Crisp, Leifheit, and Stewart. This class kind of sucks for QBs across the board for some reason, so I doubt we land a high caliber QB. I hope we land Creecy. In fact I'd be fine if he was the only WR we got. One TE, preferably Welch, would be nice. I'm not too concerned with the TE position right now. Although we will get Tobias Palmer, I think we also need a RB commit that will be a freshman, preferably a workhorse like back, since we've got a lot of speed and situational backs. I think we should take between 2-3 DEs (McCray, Hunter and Hill would be nice) and 1-2 DTs (Hailes and Everett maybe). I'm think 1-2 more safeties to go along with Mangram. I think we should definitely take Singer. He grew up in a State family and would go a long way in landing Crisp. As for CBs A.J. Marshall should be a priority and getting him would I think finalize landing Creecy. Perhaps we take an athlete that could play either CB or WR. I think we take 17-20 in this class.
3/20/2009 11:53:46 PM
We just need to focus on building the lines. All that other stuff will fall into place.
3/21/2009 12:44:04 AM
We took 11 linemen in last years class. 4 DEs, 4 DTs, 1 C, 1 OG, and 1 OT.
3/21/2009 1:04:29 AM
I don't understand why Beck, or a number of other "busts" maintain their elitist attitude.
3/21/2009 2:25:29 AM
I posted in the Darrion Caldwell thread:The Wolfpacker states that he plans on redshirting wrestling next year and try out for cornerback on the football team. Anyone else heard of this?It also mentions that Darryl Cato-Bishop is going to walk-on to the basketball team.[Edited on March 22, 2009 at 8:29 PM. Reason : typo]
3/22/2009 8:22:02 PM
Darrion has always been interested in playing 2 sports. that was the reason he tried to transfer to Rutgers so he could play 2 sports.he is a great athlete
3/23/2009 10:34:23 AM
I didn't know that's why he wanted to leave. I just assumed it was b/c he was a great wrestler and we're NC State and that would be some NC State shit if he left and then won a national title.
3/23/2009 10:37:36 AM
Amato would have loved him. (Didn't he always used to mention how he liked football players that wrestled and vice versa?) Hope he does it.
3/23/2009 11:56:28 AM
Yeah. I mean, he'll be like 5-10 or something, and 165 pounds, but I gotta think he'll have pretty good tackling ability, and he's a great athlete.
3/23/2009 11:58:09 AM
is he that tall? wrestling at 149 I would think he is shorter. I'll look it up for myself.

Safety Dontae Johnson was in attendance for our first practice. That sounds like a good sign. He's one of our top prospects at safety. I know that Ryan Cheek visited a couple of our early practices before attending the spring game and soon committed after that. If we can get Johnson and some other guys to come in and be impressed during the spring game, then it could go a long way in landing them. We need at least 20,000 fans to turn out for the spring game, not just for the recruits but for the Kay Yow fund as well.
3/23/2009 7:46:25 PM
I don't know if Cheek was high on us from the beginning, but Johnson says he doesn't have any favorites yet. It sounds good though that he drove down from NJ just to check us out.
3/23/2009 9:07:49 PM
Yeah it's usually a good sign when a player from very far away drives down just to take in a practice and not something big like the Spring game, regular season football or basketball game. It usually means that they are seriously considering your program. Hopefully we can land him. I think we should go ahead and lock up Pete Singer though before another school does just to get Crisp. Besides he seems like a decent prospect in his own right.Edit: On Rivals it shows that Singer has an offer from us. How new is this info?[Edited on March 23, 2009 at 10:15 PM. Reason : ]
3/23/2009 10:13:13 PM
That's kind of like the Tariq/Tyrell Edwards issue from last year. Do you use two scholarships to get one player?
3/23/2009 10:26:49 PM
^for rob crisp, yes. Singer isn't exactly a chump either. We've had less talented guys than him play the past few years.
3/23/2009 10:32:20 PM
Last year Singer had 77 tackles and 3 interceptions. He also played receiver, and returned punts and kicks. He runs a 4.5 flat 40. Chapel Hill HS isn't exactly a terrible program either.
