she hit a new low for you in all of her 30 seconds of screen time?

If it wasn't for the other men getting killed (can't remember if this was said by anyone except Halfhand) I think he might have gotten captured on purpose to find Jon. I did like his idea of getting Jon to become a double agent by getting him pissed at him.

"side-note gripe that i've been meaning to mention for a while: emilia clarke (the woman who plays dany) is a pretty atrocious actor imo. i feel like she just has the same wide-eyed look for every single situation, it's so annoying. and i feel like she never does a good job getting across how dany is feeling about something. i honestly have no idea why they would've cast her as one of the absolute most important characters of the series."

idk, i feel like I know what she's thinking most of the time. Most of the time, she's thinking about her dragons, getting ships, and taking back her throne. And when she's speaking with her handmaidens or whatever, I feel like you can read how she's considering each of their comments and how to respond and what not. But honestly, what else has she had to think about really?

I liked her character a lot at first. I liked how she gradually became confident and strong-minded. And I think the actress did a great job of portraying that transformation. Now I just think of her as being kind of bratty. -- but that's not the acting, it's character development or lack of. The stuff in Karth (sp?) has been pretty slow, so I'm not sure what more she could have been doing. Her character has been pretty much in the same position all season. In the desert, she had little screen time and what there was was devoted to them being desperate and wanting to reclaim her throne. And it's pretty much been the same in Karth. So I don't know if I can fault her for not really doing much with it when they haven't really given her much to do to begin with.

At the end of the day, an actor/actress is working with what they're given. And it's up to the director to "direct" them in how they portray what is written. Maybe she's performing it exactly how they're asking her to and thinks it's kind of shitty herself.

No, he's right. She's a shitty actress. Always has been. That's why any scene where she's not getting naked is a tragic waste of screen time.

[Edited on May 23, 2012 at 7:57 AM. Reason : Jesus christ, you are seeing a lot of character development where there is non. Talk about bad taste]

To be fair, she doesn't do anything in the last few books, either. Just a shitty character and a shitty actress.

I feel like her best performances were when Count Drogo was nailing her from behind. Since then, very meh.

there's is no argument that her screen presence sky rockets when she's naked and/or getting nailed.

But anyone who thinks she did not go from being her brother's little bitch, to realizing that she has some power/authority, and then gaining the confidence to use it, missed a lot of her character during season one. Perhaps because they were distracted by her nakedness.

^I know what you mean, I like the character of Daenerys (and I'd tell you what I'm comparing to when I say I don't think she's supposed to be played like such a brat but we're not allowed to talk about that point of contrast in this thread ), but this season it just feels like the same shit with her over and over and over again. She's always fucking pissed about her dragons. I could obviously be wrong, but I think the onus for Dany's flatness as a character falls on the actress. I don't think the writers/directors/behind-the-scenes people are telling her, "Look, no matter what happens, JUST PLAY PISSED OFF." She's gotta give us something to root for, otherwise she just comes off like a brat and I don't think that character is supposed to come off like a brat.

I feel that her story arc is the lamest when it should be one of the most important and engaging. Maybe it's just me hoping that dragon storyline comes to epic fruition in the books yet to be written and she is a major part of the ultimate culmination of the series.

Really liked the latest episode. It had a lot of humorous moments.

I don't see how you could miss that she told the dude to kill himself. The entire conversation revolved around her bartering his life for her escape.

I concur. They made her a big deal last season, and she's barely a player this season. If we don't need to care about her much now, I'd prefer they just not show her at all for a while instead of showing her do the same thing week after week. Hopefully they will at least be some movement now that the guy had all of the others killed.

I'll admit that I'm horrible remembering some character names and their spelling but The Greatest City that Ever Was or Will Be's name is spelled Qarth, not Karth. And it's clearly spelled out on the map at the beginning of every episode

Am I the only one that thinks Jon Snow could possibly be Robert Baratheon's son? Don't all the Baratheon's have hair of black? And in the first season Ned Stark wouldn't even talk to Robert about it. Made me think that he hid his bastard son from him and faced the wrath of Catelyn for having a mistress just to hide the King's indiscretions. And that would make him joining the night watch an even bigger deal (I also thought I remembering them putting emphasis on not being able to return home to hold a position of power or something like that).

Anyways...just thought I'd throw that out there.

The only reason I could think of for Ned hiding Jon is because he would somehow know that Cersei/Joffrey would go nuts one day executing all of Robert's bastards. Robert already has tons of bastards all over the place (including Gendry)... why would Ned specifically single out Jon as the one that needed the most protecting. There are a number of theories about who Jon may or may not be related to but I won't post them here.

It doesn't matter whether he's actually Robert's son or not. The fact that he's a bastard discredits him to any claim to the throne at all anyway.

If it's proven that Joffrey isn't Robert's son, then Robert has no true born royal male heirs. The line of succession falls to Stannis.

Because they were more evidence that Joffrey wasn't Robert's son and thus Joffrey would have no claim by tradition

So what if Stannis dies? Who is in line then? I, too, do not understand why Ned would go through the trouble of trying to protect Robert's bastards if they had no claim whatsoever.

Agreed. I'm not sure where he's getting "bastards don't have an right" from. It would make no sense for the whole hubub over all of Robert's bastards if that were the case.

Bastards don't have a right following the traditional rules set up there unless legitimized by someone with the authority to do so (usually the king). Same reason Jon Snow would never be able to serve as Lord of Winterfell (unless legitimized).

Now that's just talking about "legal" claims following whatever succession rules are in place by those currently in power. It can be an entirely different story if someone just happens to have people behind them like Renly. Someone without a claim but recognized. This extends to someone who is actually recognized as the bastard son of someone in power. For example, if Gendry was widely known to be Robert's son he could still make a claim and get people behind him. After all, he is Robert's son (even if a bastard) and Joffrey isn't Robert's son at all. And no one likes Joffrey.

So there are reasons beyond the legal succession. It's not all black and white.

^Jon was just an example. And a King can relieve someone of their duty from the Night's Watch as well. (No spoilers here, just general info). Much like history, a King can generally banish, kill, pardon, etc. as he likes (as well as accept the consequences that come with it of course).

So according to that quoted text; If Stannis dies, Gendry (assuming there's proof he's Robert's son) would be next in line......... or Jon if he turns out to be Robert's son and is older than Gendry (Jon Snow was at least raised by a lord).
