Glad I went to that dinner tonight. Heard about 2 jobs that I didn't know about previously, and met a high up who works at another place I applied to work. Maybe there's something to this whole networking thing after all.

For those of you still looking for jobs, you should post what kind of qualifications you have and/or what position you are looking for...maybe TWW can be the connection

I love how roddy still follows me around like a whimpering puppy trying to get my attention after all these years.[Edited on May 21, 2011 at 7:39 AM. Reason : .]
5/21/2011 7:26:25 AM

5/24/2011 11:00:43 AM
Found out today I have an in-person interview next week! So happy I didn't screw up that phone interview last week
5/25/2011 3:36:31 PM
I have an in person interview in a week and a half! So excited!
5/25/2011 6:45:58 PM
well the job interview i thought didn't go well they contacted me today. Going back in friday at 1 to meet with someone higher up. May get an offer.
5/25/2011 6:49:06 PM
Just got semi-laid off. They're going on a seniority basis, so the new receptionist got let go and now it's my turn. I haven't done any real engineering work for a couple of weeks because sales have been poor. They're going to give me work on a contract basis, probably only a day a week though. They also gave me a nice recommendation letter to use in the job search. Blahh. Well at least I got some experience and a good reference.
5/27/2011 11:54:21 AM
well they offered me about 6k less than what i was making at my other job. Needless say, back to the job hunt.[Edited on May 27, 2011 at 2:57 PM. Reason : d]
5/27/2011 2:57:37 PM
You declined the offer?
5/27/2011 3:28:51 PM
I got a call back from a second company. Will be interviewing soon! Yay!
5/28/2011 6:07:29 AM
^^^did you counter offer?

Preface: I am a computer science major. I've had about 3+ years work experience after college. Programming/software/hardware experience. I have also interned and worked in a computer related type job since i was 16. I am now 27.
5/28/2011 2:01:45 PM
was a groomsman at one of my old friends weddings back home yesterday. Got to tell 200 guests I was unemployed each time they asked what I was doing now.
5/28/2011 2:30:25 PM
Vice chancellor is probably bringing home 150k while throwing you peanuts? Fuck that.
5/28/2011 2:43:21 PM
Got a call for a interview for a position I applied for two and a half months ago for this coming week. She said HR took a long time to send the names. I usually take this coming week off but I had pushed it back two weeks for other reasons, good thing I did that.

I'm curious about what I should do seeing as how I'm kinda out of the market right now due to the fact that I live overseas. Currently, I'm teaching and really I'm not doing a whole lot to further my education. There's a possibility that I will be returning to the States next year and attending grad school, but that's all up in the air right now.Any words of wisdom?
5/30/2011 1:02:40 PM
Teach english in China, you will make tons.....
5/30/2011 2:42:37 PM
^^where at overseas?
5/30/2011 4:36:30 PM
I live in Hungary. And as far as teaching in China goes, I don't want to go there and I know for a fact the fiance doesn't want to go there either.Bada-bing.
5/31/2011 9:23:07 AM
^^^ Teaching in China pays shit. Japan and Korea is where you make the $texas in Asia.^ As someone who has been in that boat since August, I'll tell you it sucks. If you have grad school lined up, then you'll be fine. But as far as getting a job it's going to be tough. Most people didn't want to interview me because it required doing an overseas phone interview. Once I did get back to the States I still had trouble finding people to give me the time of day because either I was viewed as "too experienced" or they didn't see how my experience fit with their posted position. Only reason I've gotten the jobs I have had since returning is by heavy networking.I have my interview tomorrow. So nervous![Edited on June 1, 2011 at 7:30 PM. Reason : a]

Alright, this week has been the first wholly dedicated to job search shit. I've been setting up for the jobs I want the most (but am probably not going to get) for a while now, but it's a long time horizon between when you start and when you actually get an offer, so in the meantime I'm hitting up placement agencies pretty hard, both here and in the DC area.Should have started earlier, but the run-up to graduation was pretty intense. And, if I'm going to be totally honest, I like working but HATE HATE HATE looking for work, so that probably made me procrastinate a bit.
6/2/2011 2:05:19 PM
^ good luck! I know totally what you mean. Job searching sucks balls. They just emailed me asking for references. Guess that means the interview went well!
6/2/2011 2:22:39 PM
Good luck!Christ, apparently my irrational phobia of cold-calling people has not gone away. Just called a placement agency in DC on the advice of a friend who said it was the only way to prove that I'm serious. Got voicemail but my hands are still shaking. Fuck me, this is not pleasant.
6/2/2011 2:52:50 PM
well had a few phone interviews. One the other day went well with the HR lady. I had another one today with the same company with who would be my manager and that didn't go so well. A lot of "rate yourself 1-10 on ___" and he didn't seem to happy... even at the start before i answered anything. A little disappointed and down on this one as this company sounded great to work for.Going to keep hunting.
6/7/2011 11:22:52 AM
Got an offer this morning from a company, they want me to give them a reply by end of the day tomorrow. Have a final interview scheduled with another company Thursday that will most likely result in another offer. I have no idea how to play this. Offer from Company #1 is not as high as what I could expect from Company #2 (about 10k difference). I don't have a preference in terms of which place i work, they're both neck and neck on that. Do I just ask company #1 to split the difference since it's such a short decision timeframe?
6/7/2011 12:15:13 PM
A 48 hour decision window is pretty tight unless you're an athlete or a porn star. I'd see if I could string them out at least until Friday.
6/7/2011 1:05:13 PM
^and good luck jadn!
6/7/2011 1:11:58 PM
I emailed Company #2 and told them I received an offer - they just emailed back and told me they are going to reschedule my final interview for today or tomorrow.I must be an athlete or a porn star
6/7/2011 1:13:42 PM
6/7/2011 1:14:02 PM
I could see it being easier from western Europe but from Asia the time zone was so massively different it really took time to get a call time that worked for people. And I often found that while people were interested in me, they often had someone physically in North Carolina they'd go with instead. And I can't really fault them for that.
6/7/2011 2:19:09 PM
^^^ Awesome. GL! let us know how it goes. Today is my last day at my org. Tomorrow is me 1st day at my new one!
6/7/2011 2:28:24 PM
just had a phone interview with Company #2. Looks like I'm getting another offer (hopefully)
6/7/2011 5:04:58 PM
had a phone interview that went well last week and was offered an on site interview for next week. Flying up to NYC to interview, excited and super nervous.
6/7/2011 7:17:13 PM
unemployed for a year. Feels stress free and in good mental health, but might be time to get off my ass and get some money again.
6/7/2011 7:28:25 PM
Offer #2 on deck. total compensation is like 15k more. I'll be damned if I'm not stressed right now though.
6/8/2011 10:42:18 AM
^You're damned if you only have one offer, and equally damned with multiple offers...these situations can be very tough, good luck making the right choice, man!
6/9/2011 12:51:30 PM
thanks manI ended up going for the higher offer. Not because of the money, but because it was more in line with what I wanted to do professionally.
6/9/2011 1:00:20 PM
^ i feel for ya man..I have zero offers and have been underemployed for 2 years. But some people shit diamonds and wish the pissed gold.
