wow, with all the negatives in that game the Canes put a face on me last night. I could not have been any happier at 1:30 in the morning.

The Carolina Hurricanes traded away forward Wade Brookbank, defenseman Josef Melichar and a fourth round pick in the 2009 draft to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for forward Jussi Jokinen on Saturday.
2/7/2009 2:53:47 PM
I'm good with this trade. Someone who can actually play, in exchange for a healthy scratch, an AHL player and a mid round pick.
2/7/2009 3:16:10 PM
i have to be honest here, when I saw the headline saying Canes trade for Jokinen, after considering that they were in PHX tonight I just about shit my pants. I would have been pissed.which reminds me, QUEUE THE OLLI PICTURES[Edited on February 7, 2009 at 3:17 PM. Reason : ]

only thing that sucks about blowing out teams is that without fail, we come out and play the shittiest game ever seen in the next game.“We come out and look at Vancouver, San Jose and Phoenix as a scary trip,” said Canes coach Paul Maurice. “Clearly flying across and taking four of six points, we’re pleased.”MAURICE IS PLEASED.[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 1:02 AM. The trend continues, NC State basketball can't win if the 'Canes do. So being that the 'Canes have the chance at the playoffs and NC State doesn't at the NCAA outside of the ACC Tourney, go Canes. I wish I could've watched last night's game being that it was an offensive outburst. How did Jokinen play for us last night, I saw he arrived right before the game, but Chip didn't talk too too much about his play in the Canes Now blog. Hopefully this is another one of the Samsonov moves where we get someone who was on waivers and they become a real force for us.
2/8/2009 5:03:37 PM
Didn't notice him very much when he was on the ice, but he picked up an assist and was a whopping 13 out of 16 on faceoffs, so I'd say it was a good debut for him.

Does the Jokinen deal preclude Cole returning to Carolina? this ESPN article suggests that he may end up back here for a potential playoff run?http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3889589
2/9/2009 10:19:17 AM
I don't see it happening. Edmonton is still going to be on the bubble come deadline day, as will every other team in the Western Conference. They are going to want more than we will be willing to give up for Cole, especially considering the fact that they traded Pitkanen to us to get Cole to begin with. We're at a time where we can't be giving away assets and picks. Plus, we are already well over our set budget for the season. Also, I think a lot of people assume that Cole is eager to get back here, but I'm not sure that's the case.
2/9/2009 10:30:40 AM
odds the Caps falter down the stretch and give up the #2 seed?
2/9/2009 10:32:07 AM
They are on the verge of giving up the #2 seed to New Jersey right now. As for giving up the division title, well, statistically that is about the same odds as the Lightning or the Sens making the playoffs. Not happening.
