us legend brian mcbride retired today. i hope that one day we have a striker as good as him.
9/3/2010 2:27:00 PM
Well I'm up to 2023 in my Football Manager game and Jozy Altidore has been a World Player of the Year candidate a few times so...
9/3/2010 3:53:36 PM
^^ I think he's retiring at the end of the MLS season, not todaybut yeah, fucking legend

good to see that stu holden signed a 3 year extension with bolton, he's getting a ton of playing time. that should help us a lot. jozy played today, but he hasn't played much this season. i hope it doesn't end up being a setback for him. we need him to play as much as possible.

Midfield is the only area we're strong in if we look ahead to WC2014 (because frankly, that's all that matters now that we're making WCQ easier than before and nobody gives a fuck about the GC except b4c)Bradley, Holden, Edu are young, getting lots of important minutes for their club teams, and I wouldn't be surprised to see any of them on really big clubs in the future (Rangers is CL but I meant a top 4 team in one of the top 5 leagues in Europe). Our best two players, Dempsey and Donovan, will be 30+ but should probably still be good enough to play roles in 4 yearsDefense is old with no real solid prospects at the moment (a couple MLS'ers like Ream and Gonzalez but I'm skeptical until I see them more) and forwards have always been pathetic and maybe Jozy's not who we thought he was and we should remove his crownI guess Howard will be back in 2014, he'll be 35... age hasn't bothered Friedel but everybody's different
10/1/2010 11:04:52 AM
yea and we always have guzan, he's looked solid in his time at villa. i think howard will still be the starter though.im worried about our d and forwards too though. we had a lot of good chances to score during the world cup, but those forwards cannot finish at all, and things are not looking up for them right now. our d is just too slow and old.
10/1/2010 11:15:03 AM
I'm seriously thinking about just taking a break from the national teambecause it'll just piss me off to watch Eddie Johnson
10/1/2010 11:25:59 AM
I'm still hoping Chuck D can make his return. That's seemingly our only chance at Striker, and it's starting to look like a long shot.

http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id/5655430/soccer-us-forward-charlie-davies-talks-recovery-espn-magazinecharlie davies articleThe accompanying picture went a bit too far south... but still a good read nonetheless[Edited on October 7, 2010 at 11:05 AM. Reason : actually not much of an "article," it's just him talking]
10/7/2010 11:04:03 AM
^^I can't comment on Bradley or Cherundolo, but Landon's Spanish is nothing to write home about.Cherundolo should speak German fluently since he's been there since the stone age.Bradley speaking Dutch was pretty WTF though. They all speak English and he was only there for two years. Pretty awesome for him to learn it.EDIT:Ehh, after watching other interviews I'm a little more impressed with Donovan. He actually speaks pretty well for a guy who never played in Latin America.[Edited on October 8, 2010 at 11:49 PM. Reason : .]
10/8/2010 11:34:02 PM
I mean, think about how hard it is to understand a lot of the guys playing in EPL who aren't native English speakers and then consider the fact that Landon's never played in a Spanish speaking country before. It's not great Spanish but it's conversational which is impressive. Americans tend to get slammed for not knowing anything but English, so it's nice to see them setting a good example.

OH, and apparently Charlie can't drive 55.
10/9/2010 12:57:20 AM

10/9/2010 11:22:44 AM
not sure why it'd kill the good vibeshe wasn't driving when he had his accidentspeed doesn't cause accidents, poor driving doesif he were in germany it wouldn't even be an issue
10/9/2010 12:36:48 PM
whatever... driving that fast after you've been in a life threatening crash is stupid, don't know why you waste time trying to argue otherwise. its extremely poor decision makingbut apparently Davies wasn't driving, switched with a teammate after they were pulled over to cover for him[Edited on October 9, 2010 at 1:03 PM. Reason : .]
10/9/2010 1:02:26 PM
if you think driving fast is stupid, that's perfectly reasonablebut whether or not someone has been in a life-threatening crash that's not their fault has nothing to do with how stupid it is

Altidore has to score on that and not hit the cross bar!!!!!!!!!!
10/9/2010 8:56:35 PM
I'm not watching in my own personal little protesthow do we look
10/9/2010 9:03:09 PM
^Get over it, Bradley is going to be our coach for 4 years. If you want to be like that then the soonest you will get to watch a game is about October of 2014. Altidore scored a nice goal to put us up 1-0. Poland is fast and sort of dominating sometimes. Altidore also hit the cross bar from about 12 yards out. Overall we look ok.
10/9/2010 9:07:58 PM
I'm protesting money driving meaningless friendlies so soon after the World Cup. These games are pointless, so fuck the USSF and CONCACAF. The Bradley re-hiring is secondary in my protest to hating USSF.It also pisses me off every damn friendly we play is in Chicago, NY, LA, and Philadelphia[Edited on October 9, 2010 at 9:14 PM. Reason : the "fuck concacaf" is for the wcq changes, btw]
10/9/2010 9:12:33 PM
^How did they change qualifying?Anyway, Jones will be...GOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLLLLL! Gooch heads it in off a corner kick from the right. 2-1 USA! ...good for the USA and Dempsey is all over the place. He's being a work horse.
10/9/2010 9:19:17 PM
http://www.matchfitusa.com/2010/08/concacaf-to-change-world-cup-qualifying.htmlOk, I found the link. It sounds like that is the end of USA vs Mexico. It will be a lot like Asia now.
10/9/2010 9:26:22 PM
Goal Poland! 2-2We keep screwing around with the ball in the box. JUST CLEAR IT!
10/9/2010 9:38:46 PM
10/10/2010 12:42:21 AM
^He signed a 4 year extention. He won't get fired until he fails to make the World Cup, or takes a different job and leaves on his own.
10/10/2010 12:55:31 AM
that new qualification scheme is bullshit. it just delays the inevitable - usa+mexico+1. the us team does not need to play more qualifying games against the likes of barbados and cuba. our players are europe-based almost exclusively now and this is just a waste of time for those players. to top it off, the only useful matchup - the games versus mexico - are likely scrapped with this plan. this should be real simple - the three who qualified are automatically in the final hexagonal. the other 32 teams are seeded and have home-and-home tourney style until 3 teams remain.
10/10/2010 12:55:55 PM
^Yeah the no more Mexico vs USA is going to suck.
10/11/2010 12:36:48 AM
Colombia
10/12/2010 8:24:59 PM
possibly the worst pass in the history by bradley in the back to start the game...
10/12/2010 8:51:38 PM
this is pretty boring so far...
10/12/2010 9:23:28 PM
join mein my BDS (USSF style)I'll be back for games that "matter" - yes I'll count the GC - but I'm not wasting time watching these meaningless friendlies in the same half full stadiums that have MLS teams.
10/12/2010 9:29:08 PM
altidore almost curb stomped that fool at the end.
10/12/2010 10:20:56 PM
wow, glad i didn't waste two hours on a scoreless draw
10/12/2010 10:39:37 PM
I caught the second half, apparently that's where all the "action" was. First shot on goal and first corner about 1 hour into the game...exciting!
10/13/2010 7:28:46 AM
bob bradley was a bad choice
10/13/2010 8:27:05 PM
Bob Bradley will be fired or resign before the next World Cup.MARK MY WORDS.
10/14/2010 1:37:21 AM
I saw the first half of the Colombia game. It was pretty boring so I stopped watching. I mean like realllllyyy boring...

bringing back some good WC memories of not working and ESPN3 in the afternoonthat's about it, this is a USA n00bfest. I do like Lichaj, Bedoya, and Ream though.
11/17/2010 3:09:23 PM
Bam! Not bad a debut for the 17 year old.
11/17/2010 4:22:18 PM
commence hype machine for Agudelo. He's going to be good though for real, he was really good in NY's playoff game against San JoseI'm also a fan of Mix because he has a sweet nickname
11/17/2010 4:26:26 PM
I'm just glad we're capping these "dual nationality" types when they're young, so we don't have to worry about another Rossi.
