So which one would you rather have, Cousins or Favors?
12/12/2008 10:09:01 AM
so someone tell me what the deal is with Cousins. Did he open up recruiting for any particular reason? The way everyone was getting excited it sounded like we were high on his list and he was opening up his recruiting for us...
12/12/2008 10:21:10 AM
He wants a guarantee that Mike Davis will be his coach. He won't sign his LOI (which is optional anyways) unless he has a written guarantee from UAB he can be released if Mike Davis is no longer the coach. Good for him as LOI are optional. Especially if you are as good as him its good to keep options open will teams will make room for him. He can accept a scholarship without signing his LOI.
12/12/2008 10:35:27 AM
how did we get into the mix with him? were we trying to get him to back out of his LOI?
12/12/2008 10:37:11 AM
He opened up his recruitment. He has not signed a LOI and refuses to unless he gets guarantees. He verbaled to UAB but has backed off that stance a little bit. Seems very loyal to Mike Davis. You cannot back out of a LOI once its signed. Its not even run by the ncaa. Good Info on Cousins and his LOI problem here. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/seth_davis/11/18/hoop.thoughts/index.html
12/12/2008 11:11:20 AM
He doesn't really seem like a quality character player.
12/12/2008 11:15:12 AM
Sounds like we are on track to be just like memphis
12/12/2008 11:22:03 AM
that's fine w/ me.i don't know if you heard, memphis went to the final four last year and two elite eights before that]
12/12/2008 11:23:12 AM
What? Show me where those kids made demands prior to signing with Calipari. I would much rather have a kid with less talent and quality character than someone who has all the talent and is very likely to accept large gifts which would have our program in trouble after his one-and-done season. Of course this statement is an assumption that he would do those types of things. But someone making demands prior to signing is clearly only worried about himself. He won't give a shit of the basketball program at a college gets in an trouble from the NCAA for his action. He will be in the NBA by then. [Edited on December 12, 2008 at 11:28 AM. Reason : gh]
12/12/2008 11:25:04 AM
Well if we get the great players and win a couple of national championships and become a darling program of the NCAA like UCLA, Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, etc. we won't have to worry about NCAA sanctions b/c they wouldn't want to risk losing one of their bigger cash cows.
12/12/2008 11:33:06 AM
I think him asking the school to release him is fine. There is a fresh at Arizona who went to play for Lute and then he retired and Arizona forced him to come for a year. It isn't fair that coaches move all the time and the players are stuck with the school. I think it is far worse for these schools to hire their AAU or high school coach to their staff to ensure the players come.ex) James Harden at Ariz Stex) It started with Jalen Rose and Chris Webber at Michigan

I didn't say he IS a poor character individual. I said he SEEMS like a poor character kid. The 'evidence' for my subjective statement is in the previously posted article.

Yeah I know ncsu has hired coaches for recruiting purposes. I just don't like the idea of it. But recruiting is so crucial to your success I can't blame the coaches.
12/12/2008 12:05:08 PM
at least when we did it....the coach had legit experience
12/12/2008 12:08:02 PM
12/12/2008 12:09:38 PM
which is a big black eye on their program. i mean, DC would be their biggest landed recruit ever and they are fucking it up
12/12/2008 12:13:41 PM
If anything I give the kid props because he basically is trying set up a safety net before he jumps. Nothing wrong with that. Just from reading the article, we may see more kids doing this sort of thing.

I doubt Ryan will get a big head. He plays with confidence, but isn't cocky. Also his mom seems like she'll keep him grounded and cares about academics.

me and some friends went to the word of god game friday night to check out cj and wall and it was the best five bucks ive spent in a long time. the whole game was highlight reel material. i definitely understand what all the hype is about wall. he controls the game when hes in and has a great time doing it. CJ and him were a nice duo. its sad to think that even if wall decides to stay in raleigh, we wont get to see him and cj together because he'll surely be leaving for the draft after the 09/10 season.

Melvin Tabb's mom graduated from State. I feel that if we offered and showed improvement then we would have a good chance at landing him. Baylor, Clemson, Wake Forest, South Carolina, and ECU have extended early offers.
