I'm doing Mount Evan's on Sunday. I'm going to table Pike's for a while:

As I said I would die doing that shit haha. I have driven up it several times and taken the train up so I know biking it would be zero fun!

Climbing is getting more and more addicting. It's crazy. I never believed it when people said it was but now I get it. I recently swapped out my 11-25 cassette for an Ultegra 11-28. Much better.

The noob here wishes he had the money to spend on a road bike. But still, I'm so weary of being so close to cars, with everybody texting these days. And...TBH, I'm having trouble coming to terms with becoming one of ...those people.

I think a huge part of it is where you live. Living in Charlotte I found it much harder to get into cycling as it was much less common. After moving to Denver where 1 in 5 men under 30 commute to work downtown by bike it became a little easier. Also there's a huge community of bikers and on many weekend rides cars are the minority on certain routes. Bike lanes and greenways obviously help as well. Lastly I'd say finding a group of riders to ride with helps a lot. 10-15 bikers are easier to see than 1-2. The best place to start riding is bike shops. Most shops have 1-2+ rides a week and they're split into easy or hard rides (sometimes a-b-c). Just go talk to a shop and tell them your experience and that you want to start riding. Probably the best decision of my last couple years was canceling my parking at work.

When I was in Scotland last week you could tell they were much more cyclist friendly. I saw tons of people riding around out away from the city in hilly areas that I would die trying to ride in so props to them haha.

Selling my Wahoo if anyone is interested. I really love the thing but I decided to use my Garmin Fenix for everything. https://denver.craigslist.org/ele/6201093612.html

if anyone here is ever selling a TRI bike or a good road bike 56 or bigger I need one for my tri's this summer.

I'm picking up a new carbon gravel bike today. Specialized Diverge.Would you be interested in a 56 cm Diamondback Century 5C? Full carbon. Full Shimano 105 groupset. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. HED wheels.

New bike kicks ass. Did 100k on asphalt on it today and was super comfortable. It soaks up the rough-ass roads in the country around here. Can't wait to hit some gravel.https://photos.app.goo.gl/a5HY5B2wHDyDXTUT9

try this one https://photos.app.goo.gl/iUnbHT9tBPhc5UUk9the wheels with 28c tires from my road bike swap perfectly onto the Diverge. rotors, cassette, thru axles all match up. pretty convenient. gives me an option if i know i'm going to stay on asphalt during a ride. here's a pic of that setup:https://photos.app.goo.gl/XmiwXKXehLE3sEot7[Edited on April 24, 2019 at 10:36 PM. Did 40 miles through Holly Shelter. Almost as much sand as gravel. It was an adventure for sure, but pretty fun.

havent taken the bike to work in years. had to swap a tube half way.

Planning a couple bikepacking outings now. An overnighter on the gravel bike with a mix of pavement and gravel and a 3 night trip on the mountain bike on pavement, gravel, doubletrack, and singletrack.
7/14/2020 7:44:08 PM
Getting geared up for these bikepacking trips. Upgraded the hardtail to SRAM GX Eagle with a 10-50T for the ups and Shimano XT 4 piston brakes for the downs. Just gotta shorten a brake hose. Ordered some custom bags from Rockgeist in Asheville. Pumped.
7/23/2020 10:02:05 PM
The rear tire on my daughter's bike repeatedly goes flat. I've replaced and patched the tube multiple times and without fail I'll find it flat again within a day or so (sometimes without having been ridden). Each time there's a single, small puncture on the outer surface of the tube. The tire itself is in good shape (only a few months old, no worn spots).I assume there's something embedded in the tire. I've looked and felt all around the inside and outside of the tire, but can't find anything. I even marked where the tire and valve stem line up so I'd have a good idea of where to look after finding the leak on the tube.Any thoughts or ideas? I'm ready to just buy a new tire at this point.
7/25/2020 9:41:43 PM
Is it on the outside diameter of the tube or the inside? Could be something on the inside of the rim. If not that, then, yeah, there's probably something stuck in the tire. If you can't find it, just replace. Shouldn't cost that much.
7/25/2020 10:13:31 PM
It's on the outside diameter. You're right, I should just replace it. I know tires aren't expensive. At this point it's a 'Why can't I fix this?!?!?' thing. Thanks-]

I took my mountain bike on a 4 day/3 night bikepacking loop around the Pedlar District of George Washington National Forest in VA back in September. The route is called the Blue Ridge Wrangler and it was pretty tough, but a lot of fun.https://photos.app.goo.gl/kLRCENYoAqso76uA7

I desperately need to jump back on the bike and get some exercise if nothing else. I don’t think I’ve taken it down in a year. Ghost Square Speedline 8.8, SRAM Apex1 groupset, 1x11. I wanted a simple flat bar bike with hydraulic discs and really wanted to try out a 1x11 setup. Love the bike, and I’d probably love it much more if I could get my fat ass back in some semblance of shape. I’ve really put on the pounds in the past 5 years.

Finished Alpe du Zwift today. Pretty proud. Nobody I know would appreciate it, somebody ITT might hahaAnyone (still) on Zwift?

Tried Zwift, but wasn't a fan. I do TrainerRoad and watch YouTube and stuff.

Doing the Virginia Capitol Trail between Richmond and Williamsburg this weekend. Anyone done this trail or have any tips/suggestions? Thinking of stopping halfway for beers or food in Jamestown. Also trying to decide if it’s better to break it up into two casual halves (is one side better?) or just do the full 52 miles.
5/24/2021 8:39:16 PM
Full 52
5/24/2021 11:45:34 PM
Quick correction - I had thought Jamestown was in the middle but it's not haha. Also, a couple of last minute people were added that just may not have the gas to do a full 52. If we did one half, would it be better to do the Richmond side or the Williamsburg side? Is there a good stopping point around the 25-35 mile mark, restaurant, bar, etc?

In September I rode a 470 mile route called the Virginia Mountain Bike Trail from Front Royal to Damascus over 9 days. Started back in Damascus in October and rode a total of 800 miles on the Trans Western North Carolina, Trans North Georgia Adventure, and Alabama Skyway routes. All 4 combine to make up the Southern Highlands Traverse from Front Royal to Flagg Mountain. It's primarily unpaved with lots of gated or abandoned forest service roads and a lot of rough singletrack. It was difficult, but a hell of an experience.https://photos.app.goo.gl/arNeCtBE69J6Xs9G6https://photos.app.goo.gl/zgkdfPyr5uXz2BMM7

Wow. That trip looks amazing. Very impressive.
11/30/2021 7:55:38 AM
It was awesome, but a physical and mental challenge. Virginia was so tough. So much technical riding, pushing the bike, adrenal fatigue. I don't think many folks have done the whole VMBT section in one shot.
11/30/2021 9:25:06 AM
With all the new greenway sections and connections they've done over the last couple years in Charlotte, I was able to ride from Freedom Park all the way down into South Carolina today without ever dealing with any automobile traffic. I think eventually you'll be able to go as far north as Lake Norman as well.

Got a new saddle the other day. 200mm wide vs 140mm wide I had prior. Think butt pain will be better
