Word is that Graham went from "announcing in the next few weeks" to "probably announcing Friday" yesterday. So look for word to come today, but given the timing change after the Tharpe announcement, this probably isn't good for us.
5/2/2014 6:34:36 AM
no way does he come here now
5/2/2014 8:09:36 AM
Yeah he moves up his announcement as soon as the Tharpe news comes out. Seems pretty straightforward. Guess we'll see today.
5/2/2014 8:23:52 AM
He or Self may have wanted to wait on the official commitment until Tharpe's transfer was announced, but I doubt Tharpe's transfer was news to Devonte or KU. That said, I don't think his transfer makes KU automatic. They still have competition at the PG spot and there are plenty of factors still in our favor. Also, if we miss, we may still be able to make a play at 3 star PG JaQuel Richmond (who we'd been recruiting earlier and signed to Houston but asked for a release) or 4 star PG Ahmaad Rorie (who was just released from his LOI to California).EDIT: Well, according to some KU poster/site that broke the Tharpe news early, "There is a signed LOI in basketball offices." The only concern about going to Kansas is the fact they may recruit over you in the future and you will have to transfer. Other than that, unless you really want to play close to home this is a pretty no brainer decision. That being said I still hope we win out somehow.
5/2/2014 9:01:33 AM
I don't think Graham can sign another LOI, I think he'd just be signing scholarship papers.
5/2/2014 9:20:49 AM
^ I thought that was the case too. LOI locks you in until you sign your papers - wouldn't make much sense to sign anything other than scholarship papers this late in the 2014 recruiting process. Whatever - it'd hurt to miss out on a viable backup PG recruit, but hopefully Gott has a couple backup plans. I'd just really prefer to keep Lacey at SG.
5/2/2014 9:29:18 AM
i'd be super surprised if he picked us over KU
5/2/2014 9:32:29 AM
5/2/2014 9:56:50 AM
I remember there being a debate on PP about whether or not he would have to sign a LOI, but I can't remember the outcome. I think at this point he doesn't HAVE to, but the school would probably want him to in order to protect their best interests. The quote I posted earlier about the LOI seems a little suspect considering they posted it yesterday morning, but who knows. Hopefully it's that kid that decommitted from Wake since KU apparently contacted him right after he got his release.

We are getting good at this whole runner up thing
5/2/2014 1:53:20 PM
You have to win something important to get the best recruits against Kansas level schools. I am somewhat amazed that Gottfried gets the recruits that he does.

5/2/2014 2:10:31 PM
Can't blame Graham at all. I wish the kid well.Maybe we can find a fifth-year senior ala Alex Johnson. Or maybe Dez Lee gets a hell of a lot better at not turning the ball over.
5/2/2014 2:24:15 PM
Fuck Kansas and fuck Tharpe, by the way. Tharpe doesn't leave...we get Graham.
5/2/2014 2:42:32 PM
Also...I meant one year with Mitchell. He's a recruit...but ACC rules make them sit out one year. Two years for a transfer.

I guess it's the 15 or so tweets in a row @ Graham about how awesome it would be for him to go to Kansas. I think he discussed him going to State twice.

NC State twitter about to be mad at Mr Purvis
5/2/2014 4:57:30 PM
I rarely wish ill will on kids...but I hope Purvis fails in a major way at UConn. Seriously...fuck that kid.
5/2/2014 5:04:20 PM
Only way he will is if Ollie leaves (which isn't out of the realm of possibilities). He's so talented it makes me angry that he was such a primadonna here. I just think he will thrive under a NBA guy who gets his personality. He will never be the primary PG though with Boatright and a 2015 top PG already committed. And if he went anywhere else I'd probably agree with you...***** more importantly are there any grad transfers at PG available?? I'd rather not have Lacey play somewhere he doesn't want to when Cat needs a blow.
5/2/2014 5:07:57 PM
What about an "NBA guy" will make him better for the bitch made personality? Also not really buying that he's all that talented. He's a 6'3 shooting guard who peaked at age 14

Abu is a man. I feel like I'm a realist...but I really think our frontline is going to be fucking awesome next year. Abu, Anya, and Freeman are beasts. Abu and Washington have skill and it's not like Anya and Freeman are Joel James type statues. We are going to be a load down low and I'm pumped just thinking about it.
5/4/2014 7:26:41 PM
^everytime something is SUPPOSED to be good at NC State...it turns to shit or at the very least, underwhelms big time. The only time we have something to crow over is someone/something not supposed to do shit that ends up exceeding their expectations personally, but not so much team wise...like Russell or Philip[Edited on May 5, 2014 at 12:59 AM. Reason : asd]
5/5/2014 12:58:43 AM
Abu is a beast. I feel comfortable saying he will be a can't miss contributor at a high major. Freeman is just a workhorse and every team needs one.I have a divergent opinion on Anya. He needs to work hard to condition himself. It's fine to be a dump if you have a great old man game like Meeks but Anya doesn't really have that finesse. He needs to get himself in shape to reach his potential... and I don't know he can do that.
5/5/2014 7:33:22 AM
Time will tell, but even at the condition he was in, Anya exceeded my expectations in the minutes that he got. He seems to be very driven and passionate and I'm confident he'll come-in in better shape next season. Maybe not ideal shape, but I think he's only going to continue to improve. And yeah, Abu looks like he'll be able to contribute immediately, and we should have a very solid big man rotation.... hopefully it'll be even better than our "one of the best front-courts in the nation" when we had Hickson, Costner and McCauley.
5/5/2014 9:21:10 AM
Anya lost 30 or so pounds from arriving on campus in August to the start of the season. No reason with a full year of working with our S&C program and nutritionist that he can't get in even better shape. It'll take some time, esp. for him to get use to playing at his new weight(can't just throw his weight around like he use to). I'm sure Vandy explained to him that he wished he would have gotten in shape earlier in his career.Anya and Freeman for defense and rebounding. Washington and Abu for offense and rebounding. Should provide us solid depth/versatility.
5/5/2014 9:56:04 AM
I'm surprised Anya gave us what he gave us last year considering how fucking fat he was. Which only means his potential is through the roof if he can shed that weight. I don't see any reason not to be optimistic (other than NC State Shit) that he'll be in much better shape next year. He's not a high school senior fucking around and eating everything in sight before he heads off to college. He's a major university, playing for a high major program, on a meal and diet plan, and has some of the best athletic facilities and personnel available to him. I would say all he needs is the drive...but even if he doesn't have that...he probably just needs the shame of coaching calling him fat and letting his teammates down to drive him to drop the weight.I would say the majority of the time (exceptions being guys like Nigel Dixon)...guys in his situation get in shape.
5/5/2014 9:59:35 AM
Its crazy to go look at some of Anya's high school highlight films and see the shape he was in then. He wasn't necessarily in good shape, but he looks like a different person from then to where he was at when he got to State. Hopefully he gets on the Richard Howell plan and comes into next year in the type of shape he needs to be in. He was able to change games when he was playing well last season, but could never sustain it due to him not being able to play more than 15-20 minutes a game. I think the best thing about how deep our front court will be is that each of the guys are good at different things and seem to like each other/play well together (at least the 3 that were here last year). The other thing Anya's got to learn though for him to reach his potential on the defensive end is when to go for a block and when to stay home for a defensive rebound.
5/5/2014 10:13:09 AM
Considering the wild transformations former players have mad under the Gottfried's trainer's weight loss program - I have no doubt that Anya will be in considerably better shape next season.
