Anybody tried a Froyo Rom on the EVO and got the 4g to work?
6/17/2010 1:04:52 PM
@Prospero- yeah, that kangerade rom is FAST. Had the Blue Theme but just loaded the Smoked Blue Nex theme. For page 2:http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/motorola-droid/2785-6-14-rom-froyo-kangerade-v1-0-blazing-fast-7-theme-options-many-extras.html

so i did a factory reset on my Evo and the battery issue went away. So it must have been an app...the only apps i installed were nolock and some battery widget (pictured in the screenshot above), and a couple games.does anyone else use nolock? I'm wondering if that was the one...
6/17/2010 1:53:09 PM
placed a hold on an evo - should get it saturday

looks like they finally had the sense to change it from 720p Screen to Captures 720p.

I keep switching between Pro Launcher and ADW Launcher. I have a script to remove all launchers other than the one I am using at that time and man it makes a difference. When I had all 3 installed the phone was crawling... super fast now.ADW = TONS of options and eye candyPro = simplicity, more docked icons and seems faster to me.You guys have a preference?
6/17/2010 4:44:51 PM
I use Pro, can I get that script from you
6/17/2010 4:50:05 PM
I like the hidden drawer and customization options for ADW. The horizontal scrolling app drawer is also nice since it's something different from the normal or 3D launcher. Both have been fast on screen transitions and moving around in the app drawer. The 3D launcher on LP is insanely fast though.[Edited on June 17, 2010 at 4:51 PM. Reason : ]

Whats the name of that battery widget? I like it.
6/17/2010 5:00:32 PM
BatteryLife
6/17/2010 5:02:01 PM
Prospero, it was a bunch of scripts bundled for the ROM I am running - Super E for the G1. Not sure if it would work on any other rom/phone? This is what I flashed - amazingly simple.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6670853&postcount=351
6/17/2010 5:21:13 PM
yeah, some of the roms have a bunch of scripts that you can run. I know Bugless Beast and Kangerade. And damn, I freed up 3 megs by ditching the stock froyo launcher.
6/17/2010 6:19:23 PM
I just installed Swype, and it is amazing. One of the most well-made pieces of SW i've ever used I think. It might me the killer app to soothe my iPhone 4 fever...On a separate note though...
6/17/2010 6:30:18 PM
running kangerade blue right nowcan anyone point me to a script to remove all launchers except launcher pro im using?
6/17/2010 6:41:58 PM
The scripts are built in. download android terminal emulator from the market, open it and type su at the command prompt. Then type rmlauncher and rmlauncher2. May want to make a backup first though.
6/17/2010 6:58:57 PM
I had the chance to play around with the Samsung Captivate (most likely) for Verizon because a friend at work is field testing one. It seemed like a solid phone.. nice screen, pretty smooth. Swype was pretty cool also.
6/17/2010 7:54:52 PM
Did it look like AT&T's version?
6/17/2010 7:59:22 PM
captivate could be a hell of a phone. I'd rather have a HTC phone like the desire but it's a nice addition to AT&T's line-up

meh, flash still has a long way to go. Samsung Galaxy S Pro, rumored to be another 3G/Wimax device heading to Sprint
6/17/2010 8:54:42 PM
i heard it was supposed to be 4g
6/17/2010 9:34:31 PM
wimax = Sprint's 4G
6/17/2010 9:47:48 PM
they name it stupidly
6/17/2010 9:58:30 PM
Don't think this was mentioned before ITT about the Galaxy S/Captivate:16 GB of onboard memory and is expandable to 32 GB. Could be a misprint, but if it's right, it'd be a nice iphone killer on AT&T's networkhttp://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung-captivate.jsp
6/17/2010 10:42:36 PM
Did News/Weather stop working for anyone else?
6/17/2010 10:47:49 PM
yeah, apparently the place that updates it had a run in with hackers. They're supposedly working on it.

Droid 2. Looks like it'll be running Blur like the X.http://gizmodo.com/5566654/droid-2-first-impressions
6/18/2010 7:20:08 AM
Wow did they keep the same horrible keyboard for the Droid 2?
6/18/2010 9:27:18 AM
minus the dpadSO im trying to root and im stuck at the ! with a triangle around it, i'm pressing vol+ and camera at the same time, separately, one then the other....nothing?[Edited on June 18, 2010 at 9:52 AM. Reason : NVM got it to work, had to hold vol+ for about 2 sec, then press camera]
6/18/2010 9:51:48 AM
wait, where am i entering these commands starting with "adb shell"????i realize i'm a noob but even the noob guide just says "and then flash with these commands" without any further explanation
6/18/2010 10:05:15 AM
^ what phone and ROM do you plan to use?^^ I actually heard the new keyboard is a lot nicer than the original droid...
6/18/2010 10:12:33 AM
Show me the guide you are using....ADB commands require you to hook your phone up to the PC and enter commands, you'll need the SDK installed.
6/18/2010 10:13:54 AM
i'm on a droid and i'm just trying to go through these stepshttp://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/how-tos-guides-definitions-manuals/816-read-first-if-you-want-root-flash-roms-kernels-etc.htmlright now i'm on #2, Step 5 http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/how-tos-guides-definitions-manuals/809-custom-recovery-image-simple-noob-guide.htmlexcept i dont know where to type "adb shell", i got a terminal emulator from the market but it says access denied[Edited on June 18, 2010 at 10:16 AM. Reason : the guide says nothing about an sdk, some guide!]
6/18/2010 10:15:21 AM
lol seriously if the guide just added a step, A HUGE IMPORTANT STEP, like adding the SDK i wouldnt have wasted the last 15 minutes
6/18/2010 10:18:15 AM
awesome, I cant open that page here at work (sorry man). Good news, if you are at the point where you are flashing a recovery, you SHOULD be able to do that through Terminal Emulator and not have to use ADB. Does that guide ONLY show via ADB?If you have root already.... couldnt you just download Rom Manager from the market? That allows you to flash a recovery image. Not trying to cause confusion... I just cant open the guide you are using. Hopefully someone else who can will chime in.ADB = using the command prompt on the pc. You can type: adb devices to see if your phone is recognized by your PC, if so... should be able to continue with their commands.
6/18/2010 10:20:42 AM
i'm gonna try it using ROM Manager, i think this guide is a little outdated but its stickied on the forum that others have been posting their links fromm so i figured it was the best to use, guess not
6/18/2010 10:31:53 AM
^^ thank you that was MUCH easier than following the last two steps in that guide[Edited on June 18, 2010 at 10:53 AM. Reason : well hold on now, another problem arises...now its just giving me the splash screen indefinitely]
6/18/2010 10:44:22 AM
awesome man, you should try downloading Quick Boot (makes it really easy to boot into recovery). I would go ahead and go to your recovery and create a Nandroid backup if you have not already.
6/18/2010 10:55:28 AM
well this is pretty much ruining my day off...though itd take 30 minutes max and be easy but nope
6/18/2010 11:12:44 AM
If you're rooted, just go into the market and download Rom Manager. It'll flash recoveries for you
6/18/2010 11:43:41 AM
yeah for some reason it was stuck at the loading screen forever so i had to rewipe and reinstall the rom and now it works and you were right its fast, but now i dont have time to actually play with it cause i wasted so much time installinghow do i change the proc speed?
6/18/2010 11:46:00 AM
SetCPU in the market. It's a paid app and you'll need a kernel that allows overclocking.
6/18/2010 11:48:04 AM
SetCPU is in the market... you can go to XDA developers and he has it up for free to download though (or he did). That is THE app for overclocking.edit: sent you a PM with the link to SetCPU.Now you need to install swype and Pro Launcher (not sure which launcher comes with that rom you used, but Pro is insanely fast and the 4 default icons in the bottom tray make it the best IMHO).http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-fede-launcher-Ezxp.aspx[Edited on June 18, 2010 at 12:01 PM. ^ is the front bezel going to be black like that in the picture... I wonder. That seems off.... would be cooler in my opinion if it was all white and the buttons had black. I wish T Mobile would just announce the freaking Galaxy already....
6/18/2010 1:42:45 PM
Since we were talking about installing the Android SDK & ADB.... seemed like a great time to repost this program:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558108In short, it is about 1000x easier than the Android SDK.... allows you to do ADB commands... and you can take screenshots, and a lot of other cool stuff. In short, if you like playing around with your phone, this is easiest way.
6/18/2010 1:53:40 PM
think i should wait for the white one?
6/18/2010 2:26:18 PM
Lifehacker had a super easy rooting guide that doesn't involve terminal stuff, probably not as customizable but super easy anyway.http://lifehacker.com/5563924/the-start-to-finish-guide-to-rooting-your-android-phone
