I'm sure someone has referenced staffing agencies prior to this post, but Temporary Solutions (in Raleigh, not sure if their elsewhere) seems to be a pretty good one from what I have experienced. 100% of the jobs that they find for people are state-government. Full-time or part-time positions available. Although you may not get the benefits of the "permanent" state employees, there are definitely some perks. Money off of phone bill, discounts on hotels, discounts off at car shops, and various other discounts. There is also potential to become a "permanent" state employee, as this is not unusual. Should that happen for anyone, you get the government health plans blah blah and so forth. You ALSO hear about internal job postings once you have landed a position with whatever agency/division which gives you opportunity to move to something that you think might suit you better/pays more etc

Job situation is coming together. Should hopefully get a formal offer this coming week.

As of 15 July I will be unemployed. I dread putting my resume together and going through all of the interview bs.
5/8/2011 6:24:03 AM
^Although I am employeed, it is always good to do that, I apply for jobs every so often just to update the resume (instead of waiting and having to redo it all at once).[Edited on May 8, 2011 at 1:43 PM. Reason : w]

I do try to keep it up to date. It usually happens about once a year that I do an edit. Since I have only had this job for about a year, my resume would be reworked about now whether or not I was leaving in July. Unfortunately, the knowledge that I HAVE to update it makes the task much more daunting than if I was doing it for the fun of it.

Thought I would pass this along to you guys since it's in the area. http://goo.gl/qIu5M It's a great environment and would be perfect for all the IT gurus on here. Bonus points if you can troubleshoot flaky wireless networks and are good with active directory or have worked with smart boards.

Anyone know of any organizations/positions working in mental health with children and/or young adults or at-risk/juveniles?
5/9/2011 2:28:54 PM
Resume Question. Background:I started a job on February 1st and I'm thinking of looking around for something else, but I don't know how to handle this position on my resume. The main reason i'm leaving is that I've had pretty much zero work to do (long story). I worked at my previous employer for about 4 years and have, what I think, are some pretty attractive qualifications.Question:How do I handle the 4 months that I worked at my current employer? Do I leave it out entirely and leave a gap in my resume that I can speak to if I get an interview or do I include the time and use sparse vague comments? If I include the time, do I include something in the cover letter to try and convey why it's not working out with the current employer?
5/9/2011 4:05:49 PM
I'd put it in and not worry about it too much. I worked my first job eight months before applying elsewhere. I don't think it would be a huge red flag unless there was an obvious pattern of back to back four month stints.

My company is looking for 4-5 Jr. Business Analysts in Atlanta. We're a small software solutions company (100-120 employees) that focuses on customer analytics and have a bunch of fortune 500 companies as our clients. PM for details. Also possibly looking for an analyst in the Charlotte area for a client here.
5/10/2011 11:11:15 AM
got an interview tomorrow. Possibly another one later on next week.I want to keep my options open. If they make me an offer tomorrow should i ask how long i have to decide? I don't want to seem like im waiting on something else.
5/10/2011 11:30:09 AM
Fine line between keeping your options open and getting too cute with multiple offers. Thank them for the offer now and say you'll let them know shortly, but if it stretches longer than a week or so you run the risk of them going in another direction. Shady individuals have been known to accept the first offer but not agree to start for several weeks, giving them more time to flesh out other opportunities while already having something in their back pocket thats typically not legally binding. Be warned, these people are typically frowned upon once word of their nefarious ways gets out.
5/10/2011 11:37:48 AM
Got two job offers today. Still debating on which one to take.
5/10/2011 10:59:14 PM
Finished interviewing on Tuesday for a great job. Completely qualified, one of my references turned out to be a "very close" friend of hers. Can't imagine it going to someone else at this point, but am still nervous. Wish she'd hurry up and call with an offer or to tell me they aren't interested. The waiting is killing me
5/13/2011 2:05:32 PM
A lot of the time, companies wont even give you the courtesy of a generic rejection letter
5/13/2011 5:01:50 PM
Did well in another HR screening call. I'm glad the interviews are rolling in, but they keep going with people with 5+ more years of experience than me. And I'm graduating tomorrow, so soon I will officially go from a student looking for work, to an unemployed person looking for work.^^^Lucky bastard (j/k, you prob earned it)^^Good luck!^IKR[Edited on May 13, 2011 at 10:54 PM. ^get your doctorate, you can be a student a little longer!!!!!
5/14/2011 7:58:31 PM
Well the interview went meh in my opinion. I was interviewed by two 60+ year old guys. They didn't seem high energy and were just looking to hire someone to take their place when they retired in two years. I don't think they wanted to invest in a 27 year old who is not married. Not holding my breath for that one. Going to keep trucking. Found another job but it has some travel involved, like half and half travel. Looking something 5-10% travel max, not 50%.[Edited on May 15, 2011 at 2:41 PM. Reason : s]
5/15/2011 2:41:05 PM
^your not married, why does it matter, getting your foot in the door is more important.....
5/15/2011 5:04:40 PM
Dude's saying he doubts they would hire someone they would have to train up and then could possibly bolt due to not being tied down to the area.
5/15/2011 6:00:16 PM

tired of filling out online apps. Everyone seems to have their own HR/App system. A simple "upload your resume" would suffice but no. I must fill out of these forms, and this form THEN upload your resume.

I can see how having data points ready to go for the categories you (the employer) is interested in is useful. Resumes are impossible to parse programatically so you actually have to read them.Weed out the resumes not worth reading in the programatic pass. Profit.

Thanks guys! I had my very happy day turn crappy yesterday when I gave me 2+ weeks and my manager yelled at me. He turned beat red and started shaking that is how pissed off. And what sucks is we were friends and he is the last person i expected that from, he's the guy who would never even hurt a fly...Oh well. but GL to everyone else!

Giving your manager 2 weeks notice is one of the small pleasures in life, enjoy it

^ ahahahahhahaYou know what, I like where this thread is headed. I've been seeing tons of people interviewing and talking about getting new jobs, and many less people talking about getting laid off.
