I'd love to join the group hug on TBDVBut I just don't see any value or leadership he brings to the table

Guys....we all know the score concerning TBVD.

My hope is that he can actually provide a useful body during the games. I am not hoping for any real contribution from him, just someone to give some good minutes, play some defense, eat up space, and rebound. Offensively, I only want him to pass the ball and set screens.Ultimately, if the freshman can come in and contribute right away, we're better off than depending on TBDV. Anyone thinking he's going to have some magical turn around though is clinging to a pipe dream. If he's the 8th man in our rotation and can contribute some of the things I listed above, then he's made a "big improvement" in my mind.I'd be happy if during his time on the court, I didn't realize he was out there. It'd be an improvement over this past season when I knew he was out there because he looked so terrible and incapable at playing D1 basketball.[Edited on April 30, 2013 at 10:22 AM. Reason : fix]

It is far fetched. There is 100% certainty Washington and Anya are better than Vandy. Readiness isn't an issue. Jordan is no where close to being "ready".[Edited on April 30, 2013 at 10:41 AM. Reason : add another note ]

Same to you pal. Were you also 100% certain that Howell would only ever be an average back-up, and predicting him to play 30 mpg or be a double-double guy or be a great rebounder was ludicrous? message_topic.aspx?topic=593750&page=15[Edited on April 30, 2013 at 11:14 AM. Reason : ]

If Vandy hasn't learned to actually be in the proper position on the floor at either end after four years in the program why would anyone possibly think he might in year five?Besides not being skillful at all he has horrible basketball instincts.
4/30/2013 11:24:54 AM
Gottfried is gonna play his best players. If that means Vandy and Jevoni in the post, then so be it.But yeah, I'm not expecting useful contributions out of Vandy next season.
4/30/2013 11:26:04 AM
I'm pretty sure nobody really is.
4/30/2013 11:30:14 AM
love the oak hill and brewster pipelines
4/30/2013 11:38:34 AM
If he is undersized at the four he won't be playing the five, how does that really help us out with the TBDV conundrum? We only have Anya and Vandy as true centers, with Warren maybe giving us a few minutes there. Is Washington getting time at the 5 as well?
4/30/2013 11:51:12 AM
He didn't average a double-double that year. I clearly stated he could be legit under a real coaching staff. He turned out better than even the most unbalanced optimist could have hoped for. His unparalleled dedication to improvement made him my favorite player over the last 20 years. This has nothing to do with Vandy being a trainwreck. It's a disservice to mention them in the same post.
4/30/2013 12:16:12 PM
I think Washington can play minutes at the 5 when we need to spell Anya. With him and Freeman playing inside in spells we can definitely push the tempo.
4/30/2013 12:17:40 PM
Don't need a true 5 anyway in college basketball.
4/30/2013 12:26:10 PM
Gottfried doesn't really differentiate between the 4 and the 5 in his offense, and he has shown that he couldn't care less about defensive mismatches. Don't worry about a "true center". There are only a handful of those in college basketball each year. Between our 4 pure post players and Warren, Gott will start whoever runs his offense best.
4/30/2013 12:28:50 PM
Our 8-9 man rotation next year is going to seem like a 12 man roatation after all these years of having so little depth. If everyone can buy into team defense and support Warren a bit on offense it could be a surprise year... Seems we do better with no expectations anyway.Gott did a good job over the past few weeks adding some pieces too.

was Uchebo a guy that committed to us a couple of years ago? or he got real close or something. name sounds familiar
4/30/2013 9:22:23 PM
I'm pretty sure did commit when Lowe was here.
4/30/2013 9:24:09 PM
Committed to us under Lowe, we hired Gott and he went JUCO. Think he's only been there for a year though. He was also only about 6-8 to 6-9 when he was committed to State - kind of doubt the legitimacy of him being up to 6-11 now.
4/30/2013 9:27:34 PM
I discovered aquaman ITT.So, is that one of his actual quotes in the comics? Or is it just an internet meme?
4/30/2013 9:49:59 PM
I was browsing a Pitt board and they seem to think they didn't overly recruit Freeman because Uchebo was in the bag.
5/1/2013 8:11:41 AM
Bring in Travis Wear
5/1/2013 8:30:36 AM
^^ would we rather have Freeman or Uchebo ourselves? Uchebo iss from Raleigh iirc, you'd think the hometown angle would help us there...
5/1/2013 9:39:09 AM
^he's from nigeria, i think his adopted family, or whatever, is from raleigh. he played at mount zion in durham (tracy smith played there) and transferred to Word of God before Juco. Here's some brief hIghLIghts of Freeman from last summer. He's #44 at the beginning:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLiNubqcwRQ
5/1/2013 9:45:07 AM
If had I to choose, I'd take Freeman. Solid role guy, great grades, good head on his shoulders. Uchebo seems to have a lot of unknown around him. Injuries, shady high schools, juco, etc..Wouldn't mind having both, both Uchebo isn't a priority in my eyes. [Edited on May 1, 2013 at 9:49 AM. Reason : add another note]
5/1/2013 9:48:08 AM
Uchebo is a guy who put up some very good stats as a freshman at Chippola (12 & 12), before taking a medical redshirt last year. He has 3 years of eligibility. I would imagine that if he's healthy, he's more prepared for the college game than any of our freshman bigs. I'm not sure if Uchebo is seriously considering us this time around, but I'd love to see him here. Anya / Washington / Freeman / Uchebo would be our greatest haul of big men since Sendek pulled Inge, Thornton, Kelly and Corndog in his inaugural class. I think we all remember how they turned out... [Cue video of Thornton dunking over Mardesich, followed by a video of Inge scowling and elbowing people in the head while Corndog cheers from the bench][Edited on May 1, 2013 at 10:31 AM. Reason : 2]
5/1/2013 10:27:33 AM
^Why does he only have three years of eligibility?
5/1/2013 10:42:14 AM
^ Lol forgot about cornelius - lesser version of jordan collins. And Kelly a (much) lesser version of Tracy Smith. IIRC Inge and Thornton were in different classes (I think Thornton was first?), but 1 got a medical redshirt so they graduated the same year.
5/1/2013 10:42:48 AM
^^Chippola is a junior college. He has played a year at the college level and taken a redshirt, so he has 3 left to play.
5/1/2013 10:46:07 AM
Why would it be Uchebo OR Freeman.... take both have options off the bench with Anya/Uchebo at 5 and Washington/Freeman at 4
5/1/2013 11:16:04 AM
Just a hypothetical, PAL!
