^where did you wait in line at? I'll have to wait until this weekend before I can even think about waiting in line...work is a bitch.
7/17/2008 7:43:30 PM
Was at southpoint. You would not have made it, arrived before 9, didn't leave till past noon. So, this time the web site seems to have been accurate, but I don't know that I would trust it. They already had the phones in last night apparently, and got another shipment. Still, not everybody in line got one.
7/17/2008 8:06:28 PM
i'll shoot for Saturday or else I'll just wait another week. A friend of mine called me and said that the AT&T store near him had them in stock and no one seemed to be aware of it...he walked in and walked out with it. He lives way out younder though johnston county/wake county border.
7/17/2008 8:36:12 PM
Just go to an AT&T store and pre-order one, it takes about a week to get it. Forget all this waitin in line bull crap.
7/17/2008 10:20:03 PM
yea the at&ts all seem to have them, but most people seem to be wanting to go to apple stores
7/17/2008 10:59:41 PM
^ That would be incorrect. Very few, if any, AT&T stores have them readily available right now. Apple is understandably directing the vast majority of shipments to its own Apple stores.

all i got to say about the 3G is WAIT and dont buy it yet... i believe that there will be a hardware revision to the antenna soon. there has been a shit load of complaints over the strength of the new hardware over original iPhone
7/18/2008 8:41:16 AM
well the signal strength sucks on the first iphone...i get WAY more dropped calls then when I had sony ericsson phones.I thought this 3G iphone with it's plastic backing was supposed to fix that situation...did it not? Current 3G owners, has it gotten any better? same? worse?]
7/18/2008 8:54:54 AM
Guys... when you go into the store and buy the 3G phone, are they looking to see how long you are in or out of existing contract? What is to stop me from buying a new phone (not Iphone) and going under contract, then walking into Apple and then getting an iphone for the $199/$299 price?
7/18/2008 9:28:40 AM
you can only get the reduced price if you qualify for an upgrade. so if you got a new phone and extended your contract, you wouldn't be able to get the iphone for the lower price.

yeah the 3g drains the battery pretty quickI don't know how much faster it dies than the old one because I didn't have it
7/18/2008 10:57:48 AM
for me it'd probably be better off.. i can get to pages faster, use it for less time and save energy bc of that. it may not cancel out 100% but there's gotta be some savings in the decrease in time it takes to do things
7/18/2008 11:00:31 AM
weird thing is... it seems to charge faster- that might just be because it is new
7/18/2008 5:21:49 PM
3g drains the battery REALLY fast. It's actually better than other 3g phones I've used, but exactly because you use it so much, it's a bummer... The battery does appear to charge faster for me as well.
7/18/2008 8:10:59 PM
Look at the anadtech review linked on the previous page for a comprehensive look at how 3g affects battery time including the trade off in increase power consumption versus faster page loads.

People help me out with the availability page...Right now it shows there are no ipods available at the southpoint store on Friday. Does that mean I would be wasting my time getting there tomorrow morning?
7/18/2008 10:13:19 PM
most likely.
7/18/2008 10:14:00 PM
Im a little confused by this availability page...Shipments generally come in the morning. I would assume if they got a shipment in during the day, they would go ahead and stock it, right? Or do they get shipments during the day, unpack them at night, and they get made available in the morning?
7/18/2008 10:21:15 PM
i'm not sure.. in my opinion i think it's based on current stock + expected deliveries. i'm not 100% sure though. reading through this thread it looks like sometimes it's accurate and sometimes it's not.if you dont have anything else to do it'd be worth it to stop by imo if you really want one (and have some time to waste)
7/18/2008 10:28:16 PM
so i'm REALLY glad i didn't get one on the 11thi found out at work today that our group is getting a shipment of 15 of them in for "development testing"and i definitely get one... to keep... for freebwahahaha

7/19/2008 3:16:06 AM
Evan,Can you find out how your boss got the shipment of 15 for dev testing? Did he have to pay $600 each, or did he get them at a discount rate through one of the developer programs or what?I am looking to get 3 if I can at the $200 price for dev testing.

My question is, how long does the iphone battery itself last? And do you have to send it in to Apple to replace the battery, like you do with an ipod?
7/19/2008 11:08:46 AM
if you use the phone more than 3-6 years, yes you will need to have the battery replaced. like any battery using device that the manuf. seals for your/their protection.

7/19/2008 6:10:51 PM
So what's the best way to go about getting these stupid things. My dad wants to switch us over for them, but we are in Winston-Salem, so no Apple stores here.I find it hard to believe that AT&T will have stock anytime soon, so I hear that people are placing orders from them at their local stores. Is this the best route to obtain two?
7/19/2008 8:44:34 PM
I just upgraded to the jailbroken version of 2.0. So I still have installer (it's now called Cydia) and the App Store. Right now Cydia only has programming stuff mostly. None of the actual useful stuff has been ported to 2.0 yet. I can't wait until they can get stuff like Boss Tools, Categories and Summerboard working for 2.0.I've had the App Store for all of 20 seconds and I'm already downloading Monkey Ball. ]
7/19/2008 10:53:40 PM
Well that was a waste of $10.
7/19/2008 11:15:45 PM
^^ Def. Save yourself the hassle. They'll arrive within 2 weeks, likely sooner.I ordered 2 today myself, hope ATT doesn't suck too bad.
7/20/2008 2:29:26 AM
^^ oh was it really? i thought it looked cool..
7/20/2008 9:12:38 AM
^Yeah, I was looking forward to it too. Based on what reviews I've read, the accelerometer inside the iPhone just makes it too hard to play.
7/20/2008 9:55:27 AM
Yeah, Monkey Ball requires precise control. Something that the iPhone just can't deliver. Which sucks, cause I was looking forward to it.
7/20/2008 9:59:10 AM
I played Monkeyball on a iPhone and I thought the controls were fine. The only thing is that I didn't read the direction, and apparently to keep the game leveled, you have to hold the iPhone at a slight angle, not completely flat, which was probably done for viewing angle purposes. But, I played several levels, and I didn't find the controls too glitchy.
7/20/2008 12:24:24 PM
w00t my 3g i ordered last weekend via direct fulfillment shipped yesterday. hopefully it'll be in by monday. no lines for me!
7/20/2008 3:50:28 PM
^Which version and color? I'm trying to estimate about when my 16gb black will get in. I ordered it on the 16th.
7/20/2008 3:55:27 PM
i got the 8gb
7/20/2008 4:16:44 PM
7/20/2008 4:42:05 PM
Anybody noticed a loss of signal quality when they updated to 2.0? I never got the best of signals out at my house before but I always got 1-2 bars inside. I could step out on the porch and get 3-4. But last night after I updated, I noticed it was floating between 1 bar and no signal at all. And now today I had someone actually come to my house cause they said they were calling me for the last 2 hours and it was going straight to voicemail. I look at my phone, 1 bar, no missed calls. This really sucks.
7/20/2008 6:22:51 PM
it also could be at&t messing with you or the tower having problems.
7/20/2008 6:43:27 PM
7/20/2008 7:33:24 PM
^^^ Nacho, I have noticed the exact same thing. Areas where I never had problems before are now dead zones just about and I am missing calls left and right. This is in addition to all the other issues I have had with 2.0. I have restored twice now and have not noticed the problems going away. Do I have any recourse? I just got this phone at the end of February so I am still under warranty, but don't know what the apple/ATT people will say because the issues are so damn random I am not sure I could get them to duplicate on command.
7/20/2008 7:38:27 PM
This is unacceptable. I didn't touch my phone from when I unplugged it at ~10am until I made that post up there and it wasn't 10 more minutes before it was alarming that it only had 20% charge left. 6 hours of doing absolutely nothing (except desperately looking for a signal) and that's all I get for battery life? I gotta find a way to downgrade this firmware.[Edited on July 20, 2008 at 8:28 PM. Reason : found it. http://sleepers.net/news/guides/20-to-114-downgrade/]
7/20/2008 8:23:21 PM
when its searching for a signal i've found it to eat up the battery really fast.. like i could go the whole weekend in gboro or raleigh and not charge it but one night at my place where it didnt pick up and it'd be dead[Edited on July 20, 2008 at 8:32 PM. Reason : and thats on the old one/old software]
