Aaaaannndddd the cycle repeats itself.Let's just be realistic and understand that even with Lee and Davis we probably are a mid-table ACC team with an outside chance at the tournament. It will be an enjoyable team to watch and you never know if they can gel in to something more than that. But let's chill with the "better than last year" stuff, especially with what will be a stronger UNC and additional teams like Syracuse and ND.
4/8/2013 3:57:04 PM
If we pull Davis and possibly another big (people keep talking about Lennard Freeman)...then Gott would be a fucking magician.
4/8/2013 4:00:42 PM
If nothing else, this should keep us out of the ACC cellar, which was a real possibility after Purvis transferred. It's important to keep the momentum going, this program really couldn't afford a flashback to the Lowe years.
4/8/2013 4:03:45 PM
What do you have on Freeman? Rivals offer list is long but meh.
4/8/2013 4:04:04 PM
Purvis for Lee is a fair trade.Honestly, this guy seems very similar to Purvis, down to his size and athleticism. He's a gunner, an athletic volume scorer who looks to shoot first. His shooting percentages aren't very good, but the 20 ppg is what sticks out.Hopefully he can play within the high-post system instead of freelancing.
4/8/2013 4:05:05 PM
We just need more frontcourt depth. I'm extremely pessimistic on Anya giving us productive minutes next year barring some unforeseen conditioning changes. That leaves Davis (crossing fingers), Warren, and Washington as our big men. Even with a four-guard lineup, we could use some added depth. Freeman would give us a good body to put in there.^ His handles look a little better than Purvis' as well. I was a little disappointed in Purvis as a ball-handler last year. I knew he wasn't a pure point guard, but he was pretty loose with the ball and didn't take his guy off the dribble as much as I expected him to be able to.He also has a pretty slow release. Lee seems to be able to have a more formidable pull-up jumper.[Edited on April 8, 2013 at 4:07 PM. Reason : .]
4/8/2013 4:06:02 PM
Today I read an article that said since Freeman was only 16, he was gonna take another year and re-classify as 2014, so don't get ahead of yourselves with him.
4/8/2013 4:10:58 PM
I hate to break it to you guys, but we are still going to see a lot of Vandy next year. Go ahead and accept it.
4/8/2013 4:12:37 PM
I don't want people to get their hopes up too much on landing Davis. Yeah it would be great for our depth and one of the biggest stories in the conference of the offseason, but how likely is it? Would love to see someone post a list of players that have transferred back to their original school.

i will be pissed if vandy ever sees more than garbage time. Fact is, no matter how bad anya or washington end up being, they literally cannot be more useless than vandy and we may as well give them the minutes to develop them for the future.
4/8/2013 4:22:33 PM
How many of you guys also think that Lee and Davis would be an upgrade over the SR and SO years of leslie and purvis
4/8/2013 4:32:51 PM
I'll wait and see if Davis commits. Then I'll wait and see them play next year before I start that type of speculatin'
4/8/2013 4:36:12 PM
No to Davis being an upgrade over LeslieMaybe to Lee being an upgrade over Purvis
4/8/2013 4:37:25 PM
4/8/2013 4:39:25 PM
I am going to build a giant mechanical kangaroo to put Vandy in its pouch and hop him back to Australia, where he can't hurt our program again
4/8/2013 4:40:51 PM
4/8/2013 4:42:44 PM
people seem to forget that Vandy has has a few stretches here and there when he played good minutes. -This year against Wake (6 points (3-3), 3 rbs, 1 block, 1 steal in 14 mins -March 2011 against GT (8 points (4-4), 3 rbs, 1 block in 16 mins)-November 2011 Princeton game (6 points (3-3), 5 rebounds, 2 blocks in 22 minutes)(just being positive guys )

3 decent games in 2 seasons? sounds like it's time for a:
4/8/2013 4:58:58 PM
those are just 3 of his best games in three seasons!

4/8/2013 5:15:37 PM
basically, warren needs to ball out, one of lee/barber/turner needs to step up as a second offensive option, davis(?) needs to rebound and shit and lewis needs to keep making sweet ass passes.we got this.
4/8/2013 5:20:44 PM
4/8/2013 5:43:11 PM
Seemed like Warren got most of his buckets on clean-up duty or an extra pass. I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles being the focal point of the offense. He thrived on the distractions that Leslie, Wood, and others provided. Lee will help take some of the focus off, though.
4/8/2013 6:00:22 PM
4/8/2013 6:11:27 PM
Id be relatively surprised if davis isn't better than leslie . Wouldn't take much, leslie had a rough season on both ends
4/8/2013 6:12:05 PM
4/8/2013 6:19:49 PM
yea don't know why I said that, meant to say they lost their best BUT have a good class
4/8/2013 6:22:09 PM
Okaro White was FSU's best player. Snaer rebounded from a rough start to have a pretty good year though.UVA will be pretty damn nasty next year. Getting rid of Jontel Evans will help them a lot and they have a lot of experience and solid talent. Terrific defensive coach too.Duke is too hard to call. They've got a lot of talent but I can't tell if they'll be relevant nationally. Lots of talent but lots of new pieces. Could see it going either way.UNC could be pretty darn good. If they ever get anything at all from McAdoo and Paige they could easily be ACC favorites. Hairston and Bullock are that good. If they get Wiggins they are contenders unfortunately.Oh forgot about Cuse and UL are they in the ACC next year? Syracuse is losing a lot but still has pretty decent talent returning.UL isn't losing much at all if everyone returns... i'm guessing Russ Smith leaves though...They'd be prohibitive favorites if he returned.[Edited on April 8, 2013 at 6:48 PM. Nothing ridiculous about it. FSU isn't in position to win close games without White. He was clearly their best player. Snaer was terrible the first half of the year. You think Leslie was disappointing, Snaer was garbage early on.
4/8/2013 6:49:19 PM
i made no effort to watch florida state this year, have no opinion on snaer... but 5 individual made baskets do not make you the best player on a team.
4/8/2013 6:50:16 PM
4/8/2013 6:57:48 PM
He lead FSU in scoring as well as assists and was third in rebounds per game.Did any of you actually watch any ACC games not involving State? [Edited on April 8, 2013 at 7:02 PM. Reason : . ]

TBDV break out only happens if Gott can get someone (Davis?) to take some of the opposing team's defensive focus off of TBDV down low. If we can't get someone else to add to the frontcourt then they'll just double/triple team him for the entire game.
4/8/2013 7:08:55 PM
Vandy can't dribble the ball to the basket unguarded, I don't know why you think he can break out even if he's single-covered.
4/8/2013 7:17:17 PM
TBDV break out only happens if Gott recruits another player named Vandenberg that can play basketball.

Just FYI, I heard Adams is gone from Pitt, so that's one less big in the acc at least

Mcadoo was awful this year. You can't be serious. He was a huge negative on the court and the main reason UNC never lived up to their potential. 44% post shooter with weak rebounding and high turnovers?! He was significantly worse than Leslie. The guy had a 91 offensive rating for god sake, that's freaking terrible. Even purvis wasn't nearly as bad as McAdoo on offense. That's saying something. McAdoo was one of the lowest rated starters in the entire ACC. This coming from a guy people thought was a lottery pick for some reason.Paige was awful until the end of the season when he did play much better.[Edited on April 8, 2013 at 8:44 PM. Reason : a]

Louisville isn't coming until year after next I believe, right?
4/8/2013 8:59:24 PM
Louisville will come later: http://www.theacc.com/this-is/expansion.html
4/8/2013 9:08:15 PM
Correct, Louisville is in the AAC next year, joins the ACC the year after next. We get Louisville when Maryland leaves.
4/8/2013 9:08:35 PM
^^^^McAdoo was 2nd team All-ACC, you're out on an island with that opinion. You can post a link to whatever site rated him as one of the worst starters in the conference but that sounds ludicrous. I don't think he lived up to the hype surrounding him coming off the end of his freshman season but that's along way from "not getting anything out of him"
4/8/2013 9:18:22 PM
Yeah, saying McAdoo was a disappointment this year is right. Saying he was a bad player who hurt his team is BS. He was the only reason they could go to the "small" lineup in the first place. Did you see how terrible UNC's other post players were?He doesn't really do anything well except dunk and get offensive rebounds, but his good outweighed the bad.[Edited on April 8, 2013 at 9:45 PM.
