Josh Davis coming to visit the staff on Wednesday.
4/8/2013 10:59:54 AM
Lee and Davis all the sudden next year looks OK and we will have bridged the gap somewhat from the poor recruiting/transfers over the past few years to hopefully get into a more stable cycle of quality and depth. If miss on both not sure what plan D is at this point. In pretty big trouble...
4/8/2013 11:11:43 AM
Damn I hope we get Davis. He was one of my favorite players in the year he was here. I remember he had a really good game against Marquette in 09.
4/8/2013 11:19:21 AM
^^agreed about Lee and Davis, but there has been nothing poor about our recruiting since Gott has been here.
4/8/2013 11:22:49 AM
I never said anything was wrong with Gott's recruiting, but much of his effort are players that aren't even here yet. He has 1 class currently playing... thus the need to bridge the gap from what we don't have to what we do have coming in. The 2011 class is the issue right now. If that class just had 1-2 bodies left on the roster that could play 10-12 minutes a night that would be helpful, but we essentially had an entire year of no recruiting leaving a huge hole and when you combine that with no 2010 class left on the roster it is tough to have just another 3 person class coming in. In fact, as nice as our incoming class is it really needed to be 5 players not 3 to help offset. That is why getting these 2 would be just as good and then get us back on track.
4/8/2013 11:29:57 AM
Davis would be a huge addition for our team, would really bridge the gap between our 2 new big guys being ready to play meaningful minutes. Anya lost 10-20lbs this season, so I think a good summer in the gym(and it appears he's ready to work) will really be beneficial with him. 20-25 minutes total a game with frequent breaks should be workable. Before losing Purvis I thought Lee would be a great addition for depth-purposes and to give us another body to really push Purvis in practice, but now he's become more of a need for depth reasons. Not sure we can really expect Lewis, Barber, and Turner to cover us as far as guards all season, esp. since Turner is more of a 2/3 than a 1/2.Add Lee and Davis and I think our chances at being above .500 in the ACC next year are a lot better.
4/8/2013 11:31:06 AM
Yeah if we could land both of those guys that would put my mind at ease at least. I havent really looked over the rest of the ACC as far as what they are losing yet but I agree that may be enough to get us in the top half of the ACC at least. I am still not sure we would be a tourney team until we see if we are gonna get any contribution from vandy/anya/washington but its definitely much better than how things look now.

I too believe that adding a pair of transfers at critical positions would improve our chances for success next year.

So we can assume Duke, UNC and UVA will all finish ahead of us again. BC looked at the end of the season like they were getting it together some and will return everyone. I guess it depends on the maryland/GT/Clemson's of the world with if we finish in the top or bottom half. Fuck forgot we were adding three schools next year nevermind middle of the pack seems about right.I see Anya as a Reggie Johnson type guy already. He isnt gonna out quick anyone but he is gonna be a load to try to move around and fight through for rebounds. He should be able to post up smaller guys pretty easily as well. I havent watched enough to make judgement on his defense as half those kids he is swatting come up to his chest but he obviously has really long arms that will counteract some of the lack of jumping due to weight. If he can slim down like Howell and get a bit more athletic he could be a really good player for us down the road.[Edited on April 8, 2013 at 1:09 PM. Reason : adding schools ]

Anya looks like he should be able to slim down. He also has a stupid wingspan and dunks almost anything he gets his hands on around the basket, its not like he's morbidly obese like Meeks.v [Edited on April 8, 2013 at 2:13 PM. Reason : TBDV]

We'll most likely be in that 6-12 range in the ACC next year with 6 being about a best case scenario (i.e. freshmen play well, Warren and Lewis improve, Davis and Lee commit). 12th could easily happen if we get no one else and the team consists of Warren trying to do everything on offense. I would not put us all the way at the bottom because there are still some pretty weak teams in the league like Clemson, VT and Wake that we SHOULD be able to finish ahead of.
4/8/2013 2:22:38 PM
Someone refresh me on who is joining the conference next year...Cuse, Pitt, and Notre Dame?Duke, UNC, and Cuse are the only teams that are for sure going to be better than us (UNC is actually a toss-up depending on who declares and whether or not they get Wiggins).Don't see any reason UVa will definitely be better. They weren't that great this year, had a weak ACC schedule, and we would have beat them in Charlottesville if Lobo doesn't go down and we bitch-smacked them in the ACC tourney. They've got one top 100 PG coming in to replace a senior Evans (who didn't give them much...but he handled the ball well and was consistent). We get Lee and Davis and we're in the 3-7 range...IMO.
4/8/2013 2:31:00 PM
Anya absolutely needs to get in shape if he's going to give us anything next year. He's extremely raw in the post and has no perimeter game whatsoever. The only way he's a solid contributor as a freshman is running the floor and finishing in transition, or rolling hard to the basket on a set play. Otherwise he's just Vandy 2.0.
4/8/2013 2:31:34 PM
Lee is coming to State #sources
4/8/2013 2:31:41 PM
^^that's not even remotely true. He could avg 2 ppg his freshman year and if he plays decent D and can rebound the basketball, he will be a way better contributor than vandyof course he can slim down and become a better finisher, but if that happens, that's gravy in my book. We need defense and rebounding more than anything at this point.[Edited on April 8, 2013 at 2:42 PM. Reason : d]

HUGE pickup for us. Really helps mitigate the loss of Purvis. Hopefully he's a good fit personality wise on this squad.

Rodney Purvis who?
4/8/2013 3:10:21 PM
If we get Davis, we will be better than this year. Better regular season record and go further in the tourney.Davis would be huge. He'd bring the leadership and hustle that Alex Johnson brought, but much more talent. Not to mention...what's already been mentioned repeatedly...depth in the frontcourt.
4/8/2013 3:14:28 PM
I hadnt seen a lot on him before but after watching that youtube video I am pretty excited. Seems to have decent ball handling skills, can shoot the three, looks to find teammates after penetration, plus hustles after loose balls and isnt afraid to go take some contact. Should be a solid 2 year contributor.

^^he consistently led the ACC in 3 pointers, 3p%, fg%, set mulitple NC State records, scored well over 1,000 points.... no biggie.Anyways, I'm feeling a little better about next year, will feel much better if we can land Davis.
