I’m not voting for Robinson but

The shit news article on WRAL about him visiting porn shops in the 90s is pretty ridiculous.

The man is a moron and a half but shouldn’t be shamed for doing something that lots of people did back then. And I get that maybe they’re trying to make him look like a hypocrite, but unless I’m mistaken, he hasn’t come out and said anything about banning pornography for adults.

Sure, he’s called homosexual material in schools porn, and that it should be removed, but that’s not the same topic at all.

What’s wrong with my post though? Educate me. I don’t disagree with anything you guys say about his character, but a news article about a candidate going to a porn store? Especially back when that was just about the only way to consume it?

What does it matter, Stein’s up like 14 points. Republicans completely and utterly failed their party by selecting this guy as their headpiece.

"I'm not sure why this person'ssexual preferences/lifestyle choices are news, he has expressed no problems with this very specific sexual preference/lifestyle choice"

Meanwhile this politician spends all his time raging against other types of sexual preferences and their evils, just maybe not this specific one.

I think the issue is that this guy is running on "good, strong Christian morals" and raging against "degeneracy" such as abortion, pornography, and transgender people. Pretty hypocritical to be espousing those views while also getting your wife an abortion and frequenting porn shops. He is the one that made this about our bedrooms and our personal choices and preferences. If he hadn't I really wouldn't give a shit about whether he paid for an abortion or whether he was checking out porn every damn day at the porn shop.

I guess the equivalent would be if I was running for office as a person who was anti-alcohol. Meanwhile you could find me at the bar every day drinking a few beers. It shouldn't matter, but if I'm running as a temperance candidate and boozing up every day it damn sure matters because I'd be a fucking hypocrite. Just like I don't care if somebody in their private life is letting the pool boy sling it to their wife. But it damn sure matters when it is the head of a religious organization or school like Jerry Falwell Jr.

I get that, but like I said, he hasn’t specifically come out against pornography that I’ve seen.

Now if he had been watching gay pornography, that would definitely been hypocritical.

^^^ meh, I don't particularly care about things that someone did 35 years ago in that context. People change, and I've heard plenty of Christians I respect say "I did shit I'm not proud of," and I don't think less of them. With the right PR here, he could easily turn it around as a matter of "I understaff how destructive these things are."

Don't get me wrong, he's an absolute douchecanoe, just not over this. Now, the fact that he's denying it, though... Man, just own up to it. Not that Democrats should even be bringing it up, given that they've normalized damned near every form of sexual proclivity short of child molestation...

^ I guess taking it in isolation I can see what you’re saying

But we don’t have to take this in isolation. The guy is a scumbag, running a fraudulent charity, enflaming ragingly angry anti abortion, anti IVF extremist sentiment, pushing deeply hateful messages about the lgbtq community and their allies, and pretends to be a pious family man. The only bigger fake than him might be trump. He’s a shameless grifter trying to use the MAGA cult as a shield for even more graft and possibly to escape criminal prosecution. If anyone believes he’s changed or reformed or feels the need to give him the benefit of the doubt, they should get evaluated for brain worms.

And the early 90s, when he started, was 35ish like I said. Just change "35" to "25-30" and it's the same fucking statement. Either way, the point is the same: it's a non-trivially long time ago for a 55ish year-old person to be comparing their current political positions against. You have to nitpick, though, cause that's what you do when you don't have an actual point.

Quote :
"fuck outta here, man"

Why? It's a demonstrably true claim. Democrats and democrat-aligned folks have done exactly that, shaming folks for criticizing or laughing at things that were once considered sexually deviant. And I think that's a good thing they did it, because what consenting adults do is nobody's fucking business. So for them to now chuckle at a guy for consuming relatively normal porn is quite hypocritical.

When conservatives tried to ban porn in the 70’s and 80’s, it was the left that came out and defended it. Now they’re trying to use it against someone they (and hopefully everyone) doesn’t like. It’s hypocritical, is the point that I was always trying to make, and that it shouldn’t warrant a front-page WRAL article.

They are not criticizing him for watching porn.

Because he feels like other people's personal lifestyle choices should be a public matter, they are making his personal lifestyle choices a public matter. Let voters take it how they will.

Note, 'they' is general, my take, if there are left opinion pieces that explicitly criticize him for watching porn lmk.

Also btw, if it's true, he telling lies by denying, another factor.

That's been explained a few times, but apparently it's not getting through.

The man's ENTIRE public persona, as defined by him, is about being a moral, holy, god-fearing conservative Christian. Almost his ENTIRE campaign, as defined by him, is about fighting a culture war against what he deems as "evil", "satanic" and "pornographic". That's the main issue.

The dude, decades after "finding Christ", when he was married father in his 30s, was not only looking at porn, but doing it regularly in a seedy porn shop booth (allegedly)

Much like he's been extremely vocal against abortion, calling it "genocide", "murder", and "child sacrifice", and the whole "you want to get your groove on, can't keep your skirt down"., calling for a total ban on it, no exceptions. Then later it's revealed he impregnated his girlfriend and paid for her abortion.

https://www.wral.com/story/senate-passes-deal-to-fund-private-school-vouchers-require-cooperation-with-ice/21616063/

Quote :
"North Carolina Senate Republicans approved Monday hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funding for private school vouchers and voted to require local sheriffs to cooperate with federal immigration officials as part of a $1.1-billion budget agreement with the House.

The deal — which would eliminate a wait list of more than 50,000 students for the vouchers, known as Opportunity Scholarship — comes months after lawmakers ended their regular session without an updated budget, despite broad agreement among the Republican majorities in both chambers to make adjustments to the two-year budget passed in 2023.

It passed 27-17 along party lines with all Republicans supporting the measure and all Democrats voting against it."

Quote :
"Monday, Sept. 9, 2024 -- While the N.C. legislature's private school voucher program ranks at the top for lack of accountability, its support of public schools ranks among the worst in the nation.
...
The legislature’s private school voucher program is an unaccountable waste of hundreds of millions of dollars. Any “deal” that legislative leaders have reached has nothing to do with education and more to do with elections.

Rather than talking about doing what’s needed to appropriately support the state’s public school students and provide for those who teach them, legislative leaders are undoubtedly seeking a gubernatorial veto and a fresh chance to appeal to the religious right."

https://www.wral.com/story/editorial-latest-gop-lawsuit-seeks-to-suppress-n-c-college-student-voting/21627002/

Quote :
"No one should be fooled about the lawsuit filed by state and national Republican parties to prevent the use of digital University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill photo identification for voting in North Carolina.

The lawsuit has everything to do with voter suppression – particularly among young voters. It has nothing to do with election integrity – that is a facade.

The proof is in the numbers. North Carolina young voters – those 18 to 24 years old – favor Democrat Kamala Harris over Republican Donald Trump for president 72% to 24%. Similarly, they’re backing Democrat Josh Stein for governor over Republican Mark Robinson 70% to 21%, according to the latest WRAL News statewide survey. They favor other Democratic Council of State candidates by nearly the same margin.

It is about trying to win regardless of the cost – even if it means discriminating against some North Carolinians just because of their age.

That is why Republicans are going to court to make it more difficult for young people to vote and preventing the use of digital IDs.

There have been other lawsuits aimed at voter suppression, including efforts to purge about 225,000 voters from the rolls over unsubstantiated claims some maybe illegal aliens.

The State Board of Elections has approved several forms of student photo identification.

The UNC-Chapel Hill “One Card” is the official identification credential for students – and it included all of the required items for approval – particularly displaying an expiration date. Digital IDs from Duke University and UNC-Charlotte, were also submitted but were not approved for lack of expiration date information. The denials could be changed pending adjustments to meet the state board’s criteria.

Rather than grasping at any possibility to stifle some voters – particularly the 1 million younger than 25 -- in hopes of gaining an election advantage, Republicans should be working to encourage greater participation in the world’s greatest display of democracy and truly representative government.

This is 2024, NOT the Jim Crow days of 1924. An appropriate form of identification – whether chiseled on stone, printed paper, pressed on plastic or displayed on a digital device – that can be used for admission into a public university resource or facility should be adequate for use in North Carolina elections.

The Republican majority on the state Supreme Court baselessly ordered Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s name removed from the ballot. It imposed an onerous and costly delay – for both elections officials and voters. Elderly, disabled, overseas and military service mail-in absentee voters suffer the hardship -- and risk not having their votes counted -- all to help Donald Trump win.

So much for honest concerns for election integrity."

^We can already switch to using the digital One Card for everything, including building access. If you enable your digital One Card it literally deactivates the physical card, so there is no reason to even have it at that point. I'm sure some students have just tossed it or just don't carry it now because there is absolutely no reason to keep it. I anticipate within the next five years the digital card will be default option and we will probably stop printing the physical one except by request. Fucking ridiculous.

https://businessnc.com/upcoming-cnn-story-has-robinson-on-defense/

Quote :
" Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson is expected to go on CNN today to defend himself regarding a pending story the national network is preparing, a campaign adviser says.

“I spoke to Mark this morning and he was prepared to go on CNN and defend himself against the allegations,” Jason Williams, a partner in Endgame Consulting, the agency handling Robinson’s campaign, said in a text response to a question.

Williams described the CNN story as a “hit piece.” The reported story makes explosive allegations regarding statements the national network says Robinson made on an online message board in 2009, Williams says. Robinson did not hold elected office until 2021, after his successful campaign for lieutenant governor in 2020.

“The main ones I remember were that they were alleging he made some extremely racist comments about Martin Luther King, referred to himself as a Black Nazi and used antisemitic language referring to Jews,” Williams stated in the text message.

Robinson denies making those statements. “He 100% denied it when I spoke to him,” says Williams.

At a lunch with business owners in Charlotte this week, Robinson said he is very pro-Israel and denied holding anti-Semitic views.

While Endgame is working on the campaign, Williams said he is not officially working on Robinson’s campaign team.

CNN had not posted a story about Robinson on its website at 12:30 p.m. today.

Robinson faces Attorney General Josh Stein, who is the Democratic Party candidate for governor.

The Carolina Journal, a conservative-leaning Raleigh publication, cited sources with direct knowledge as saying that members of Donald Trump’s campaign are pressing Robinson to withdraw from the governor’s race because of the pending CNN story.

A Robinson campaign spokesman said there is no truth to rumors that Robinson will step aside.

Tonight marks the state deadline to withdraw from the race, the Carolina Journal reported. It’s too late to remove Robinson’s name from the ballot with early voting starting in four weeks and absentee ballots going in the mail Friday."
