Nice design play ftw

-500 for that shit
1/28/2012 10:00:26 PM
Learned that play at the Herbert J. Sendek End-of-Game Workshop
1/28/2012 10:01:22 PM
My kingdom for a coach who can draw up a scoring play during a timeout.
1/28/2012 10:02:20 PM
The last play wasn't the only bad coaching
1/28/2012 10:04:37 PM
we've forced the ball into the post to a fault at times this year and we don't do it there? we killed them all game down there. give it to leslie and have cjw or painter as his second option for a jumper if he can't score
1/28/2012 10:04:42 PM
Was better than Grant holding the ball in the corner until time expired against GT a few years ago- that was Lowe era though I believe.
1/28/2012 10:04:55 PM
shouldnt have called the timeout! we had the emotional edge running down the court with 9sec left
1/28/2012 10:04:57 PM
i agree we shouldnt have called timeoutbut if we had won nobody would careif we hadnt called timeout and we had still lost, then everybody would bash him saying he shouldve called a timeout
1/28/2012 10:06:10 PM
^^^or the game where grant went in for 2 when we needed 3 against GT a few years back. that was a major facepalm.
1/28/2012 10:33:39 PM
-1 for one point loss.
1/28/2012 11:57:40 PM
-1 terrible play after a to. agree we shouldn't have called it to begin with
1/28/2012 11:59:55 PM
-1 for a terribly play, but no problem with calling the TO. Even when Herb would call a TO to set up nothing, it was still the right move to call the TO. Herb can't help it that he sucked at the end game. Doesn't mean you don't try to improve. we'd be bitching at Gott if he didn't call the TO. Hell, even if he didn't call it and we won, there would still be people saying "well, he probably should have called a TO, but I'm happy we won anyway," which tells you that it was the right move to call it[Edited on January 29, 2012 at 10:21 AM. I don't think the TO was bad. The team needs to plays with a sense of urgency. Why is it we seem to turn it on only in the last 2piece min of every game. If we would play with that level of intensity the entire game (like UNC/Duke do on a regular basis) we would win alot more games.
1/29/2012 10:30:47 AM
I have no problem with the play. It was a good pick and would have generated an easy shot had Brown driven inside the big man that helped out on the screen. That was the key. When the help on the pick came out brown should have crossed over and driven in the paint. Brown could have passed the ball down low or taken the mid range J. Instead he tried to go around the big man and ended up getting push outside.Play was fine, just executed poorly. The defense decided to overplay and switch on the pick and we didn't execute.
1/29/2012 11:11:07 AM
That argument could have probably been made for every one of Sendek's disaster end game plays. I'm sure those plays were all magical, but if the players can't execute it successfully regularly then it wasn't a good play. I still think Gottfried is a good end game coach, but there is no way you can be happy with a play that results in Zo throwing a fadeaway three with two guys on him.
1/29/2012 11:17:41 AM
i'll preface this statement by saying that I like Gottfriedbut, what have we seen that makes us believe he's a great end of game coach?the Princeton buzzer beater?
1/29/2012 11:29:00 AM
How many end game situations have we had this year?
1/29/2012 11:43:53 AM
The people that would have complained with no timeout are just people who don't know basketball. You only call a timeout in that situation if you have a dominant one on one offensive player who you need to make sure you get the ball to or you're playing against a weak defensive team. Calling the timeout allowed Virginia to setup their defense and thats when they are killer. We only have one guy who can create a jumpshot and he was doubled. I was surprised we even got off a heave because I was pretty sure we would have a disasterous play and probably throw the ball away. Terrible TO.
1/29/2012 11:45:50 AM
^^ well, I guess there was the St Bonaventure game, too.
1/29/2012 11:50:59 AM
^^^^^They execute pick and rolls all the time. You want to put the ball in your playmaker's hands. The result of that play was 100% Zo's fault. Its a read play where you have to react to what the defense does. He reacted poorly. He should have driven inside.Maybe you think there should be some magical play drawn up that results in a wide open lay up. Fact is the defense is trying too. And when you don't execute, then you end up throwing up a airball 3 with two defenders in your face.[Edited on January 29, 2012 at 11:53 AM. Reason : ^]

+1 for doing a Trust Fall during the game...
1/29/2012 2:59:57 PM
Unfortunately it looked like the team was expecting a TO. It looked like they inbounded the ball and headed straight for the bench.
1/29/2012 3:00:22 PM
That looks less like a trust fall, more like an AWW HERE IT GOES
1/29/2012 3:22:52 PM
more like we just saw mark gottfried's vinegar strokes

More ACC wins than Lowe ever had
2/9/2012 8:56:26 PM
Almost as many ACC road wins as Lowe got in his whole tenure
2/9/2012 8:58:34 PM
i was so encouraged tonight, we looked like an actual good team. had a visibly off day but still won comfortably on the road. that's how a good team does it.
2/9/2012 9:01:04 PM
won a game being up by 10 with 2 minutes to go... AND on the roadway more credible than droopy dog roy
2/9/2012 9:04:00 PM
Team came out sluggish and didn't play the best game of the season, but we got the necessary W...tough stretch coming up.
2/9/2012 9:04:37 PM
add to everything that the team could have come out looking ahead to the Duke/FSU/UNC stretch and laid an egg....good win.
2/9/2012 9:12:38 PM
Coach said in pre-game that Painter was under the weather. Glad to see him suck it up and play even though he looked like he felt like shit.
2/10/2012 9:35:59 AM
guaranteed single digit losses in ACC +5
2/10/2012 9:58:15 AM
4-1 in acc road games (albeit an easy schedule) vs. lowe's 7-33 CAREER acc road schedule. + 10
