You might want to be more broad. Its hard to find a Carolina fan that acknowledges those years.

^ hahaha, so true.

Instead of "I want it now" the song would be "I want my calls" (calls from the refs). And work in a "go back to the ghetto".

^^ UNC fans are mostly just obnoxious, and there are even a fair number of reasonable ones out there.

Duke and Maryland fans go out of their way to be offensive, and I can count the number of reasonable ones I've known on one hand.

"I agree, locomotive. Terrence Jones rolled up that ankle pretty badly, but he didn't even look over to the bench. I'm sure a lot of our players would have missed four games.

We are going to have to get a whole lot tougher, and lose the "nice boy next door in the baby blue" attitude to compete with some of these gang bangahs. Some of it is on the strength and conditioning dept, but a person also has to take some responsibility and exhibit personal motivation to hit those weights, too.

Zeller, PJ Hairston, and McAdoo all looked the most physical of our players, and those guys took shots and got back up. Genetics determine a lot of how big you are going to get, but it does make you wonder how a slight built, smaller boned John Henson (for example) will hold up to the rigors of a 90-game NBA season."

those UNC fans are so racially sensitive

exactly. calipari does a great job of selling these kids on what they want, which is to get to the nba...calipari can get them there and he does a great job of winning with that type of player. it's just a different approach.

well, in regards to geniuses like bill gates, there is a slight difference in that the athletes are relying on their physical abilities to make the millions, which could be taken away at any time, and they'd have nothing to fall back on (except hopefully with the millions they'd saved, they'd have plenty of time and resources to go back and get a degee)

ernie comes back to argue.

it's a stupid stupid argument, but a physical accident would hurt an athlete's career much more than a computer programmer's career. If Gates had a physical accident, he'd still have his money-making brain. Stephen Hawking does pretty well with his physical disability, but he'd make a lousy pro athlete. You see my point, don't argue it.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/feel-scuzzy-knowing-morris-claiborne-wonderlic-score-203014846.html

relevant thanks to this debate

Quote :
"So maybe the NFL thinks they need to throw us a bone so we don't feel inferior when watching NFL games. So is everyone enjoying the news that Morris Claiborne scored a four out of fifty on an "intelligence test" designed to measure someone's ability to learn and problem-solve?

A score of 20 is considered to be "average intelligence", according to Wikipedia, and a 10 represents basic literacy. The score posted by Claiborne, the highly-rated cornerback prospect out of LSU, obviously, would not be on the impressive side of things."

He went to college for a little while and is 40% towards basic literacy! I'm sure a few more years would have improved his odds.

i'm not necessarily talking about the ones who don't know how to read.

like almost any general statement, it doesn't apply to every single person. i realize that many athletes wouldn't benefit from finishing a degree. i'm talking about the ones who could actually have a career in something other than sports. i didn't think i had to type that out, i figured people would understand that i'm speaking in generalities.

you're arguing against yourself man. an athlete's window to make money is smaller... therefore they should definitely spend more time not getting paid in college?

a genius could also hurt his brain in many ways so... if you can make the loot, you go early, either you start a facebook or you declare early for the NBA/NFL/NHL/MLB/MLS/PBR etc.

This is such a dumb argument

Body guy hurts his body, loses income

Brain guy hurts his brain, loses income

You going to break out Bill Gates' vertical next? What's his 40-time, chief?

I doubt a genius is going to fucking hurt his brain while doing his job, though.

YOU KNOW, HOW UNPAID ATHLETES INJURE THEIR BODIES WHILE PLAYING THEIR SPORT

holy shit this is stupid. the point was:

Gates would have gained nothing by finishing college and earning a degree.
If he hurts his body, he's still making money.

Some athletes may gain something earninga degree.
If they hurt their body, they'll have the degree to fall back on to make money

Both Gates and Athletes are screwed if they hurt their brain.
Only athletes are screwed if they hurt their body (and don't have an education).

edit: for the record, never said that athletes shouldn't leave if they're guaranteed millions in the nba (they can come back and get their degree at anytime). i was only saying, as i stated in my first post, that Gates dropping out of college and athletes leaving early are different situations.
