Oh I forgot to include the awesome rash I got from pumping that required steroids on steroids to kinda clear up. It's still not 100%

yep. my wife toughed it out and pumped for almost 3 months... after that she was done and I don't blame her. It's diminishing returns on the benefits of breastmilk the farther along you go on too.

Had the 19 week anatomy ultrasound today. It's a girl!
It was really cool to see all the features on the ultrasound.

"curious though...what kind of problems are you having? latch issues or has your milk not come in yet? Ryan was slightly tongue tied which made things very difficult. I ended up getting a lot of help from Dr Vijay at Blue Ridge Pediatics (I think that's where you said you were going?). She gave me some great tips...moreso than the lactation consultant at the hospital--LC didn't even catch that he had it."

Did you end up getting it cut or work around being tongue tied?

we worked around it. so far we've not seen any further issues with it, but we'll really know for sure once he starts speaking more.

I agree with elise. I'm not at the point of having kids but I do enjoy hearing the real side of pregnancy.

haha I'm still here and pregnant Due date is Thursday but the doctor last week said she wouldn't be surprised at all if I go past that. I'm kind of hoping I last until the weekend only because it'll just make the HR paperwork a lot easier to deal with if my leave starts on a Monday.

I really hope at my appointment on Wednesday they don't try to talk me into stripping membranes. I'd much rather just stay the course at least for another week than try to jump start things.

Yeah past couple of weeks have been pretty boring pregnancy-wise. Right now it's just dealing with setting expectations of relatives. ie, no you won't be allowed in the labor room as the baby is crowning, you're going to have to wait until we've been moved into postpartum and I've had a shower.

just get the tongue tied taken care of early. as someone who was tongue tied I was greatly annoyed by it until I got it cut around 11-12.

It never impacted my speaking or function, but it just felt odd. I very much wanted it fixed

yeah, i think our parents were a little bit put out when they had to wait for an hour or two for us to move to the other room. they got over it.

Haha about three hours after I made that post I went into labor without any castor oil. Guess the threat of it was enough to make my body say, "Fine let's do this!"

After 19 hours of labor I ended up having to get a c-section but she is perfect

Haha yeah I don't think I could ever actually do the castor oil thing. Don't want to be shitting all over the place in labor lol.

Here is little Kora. I still can't get over her red hair! My grandfather is super excited because he thought he'd be the last redhead in his family tree haha.

my wife is doing pretty good. she's hardly slept since the baby was born so that's definitely taking a toll. thankfully, everyone was discharged today so we are hoping to at least get a little sleep tonight. it'll be nice not getting woken up by 11pm room trash collections.

Oh yeah, the first night in the hospital was the worst. Constantly coming in to check my vitals and Henry's vitals. Then coming in to help me breastfeed. Then coming in to give me my pain meds (I didnt mind that visit too much)

Oh yeah and we asked the nurse on duty in the early afternoon to see if she could find a cot for David. I guess she forgot to ask and then she got off work. By the time we realized she never asked, it was too late and all the cots were gone. The pullout chair at Rex was really uncomfortable. the next day we asked first thing in the morning for a cot and got one.

^ wakemed Cary had sofas in the postpartum rooms that pulled out into futons

They weren't particularly comfortable but afforded a place for me to sleep for three days.

the sex was determined during chromosomal testing

the ultrasound was from the test for fetal nuchal translucency
