Does 1.5 not have where you can go into the applications part of the settings and stop a service or force close an app?
6/11/2010 1:31:42 PM
ok so i know this is probably a basic question, but on my Evo how do I get facebook events (incoming messages, wall posts, status replies etc) to show up in my Android notifications? I've seen it on other peoples phones, just don't know how to configure it.
6/11/2010 1:40:22 PM
it does, but which is easier:1)pulling down the notification bar, hitting the task manager that sits in it, one clicking the pandora app and it going away2)hitting the home key, either finding the settings icon on whatever home screen you put it on or hitting the menu button then settings, scrolling down to hit applications, hitting manage applications, waiting for it to load (if your system is hanging because pandora is fucking up it can take forever), scrolling down to pandora (which if you have a lot of apps can also take a while, scroll down after that loads and hit the force stop button^use the standard facebook application and just leave it running. it can be buggy on some phones, but it usually works well.you can also do it with sms]

I guess manually killing misbehaving apps would be a legit reason for having a task killer but that's still one more app running.^^ facebook notifications on android is a crapshoot. The only reliable way is just to have facebook send an email to your gmail account. Think the actual facebook app notifications are only messages, pokes, event invites and friend requests.
6/11/2010 1:57:09 PM
that's pretty much all I use a task killer for. for apps that open when they shouldn't, don't close when they should, and fuck up. poorly designed apps can still be fun to play with, but if you don't manage them properly they will fuck up your battery life and performance.
6/11/2010 2:01:38 PM
synapse, open the facebook app and then menu > Settings... I dont use it (no facebook for me) but pretty sure thats where you can set the notifications. The FB app is not perfect.. still a work in progress in my opinion. You may just want to set up a widget if the notifications are not working well.Task Killers are NOT needed for Android. If you have an app that is doing something crazy, email the developer.
6/11/2010 2:37:19 PM
i have a few apps that were using CPU so I use a task killer for those. even ones that don't there is a noticeable performance difference without an app killer.

They really need to work on the facebook app. I believe I may have gotten a notification twice in 5 months and think those were when I had just opened the app.
6/11/2010 4:29:24 PM
Just have facebook send notifications to e-mail. It's really simple.
6/11/2010 4:50:48 PM
Just delete your FaceBook account, you will be happier... I promise.
6/11/2010 5:00:59 PM
facebook in generally is pretty buggy with the android. the official app is pretty bad on most phones. notifications worked great on my backflip, but the widget was pathetic. the motoblur happenings widget >>>> the facebook widget.of course for whatever reason my facebook inbox doesn't work well with motoblur, i've gotten 1 of the last 20 messages actually deliver to my phone.

Yeah I didn't bother getting Applecare when I got my iphone. I just went straight with 3 years of squaretrade, much cheaper and good coverage.

lol. dorky moment of the day. Shitty tdub keyboard

http://phandroid.com/2010/06/11/droid-x-launching-in-july-droid-2-following-in-august/I'm gonna be pissed if they get 2.1 or 2.2 with blur before they give one of those to the backflip
6/11/2010 10:12:21 PM
Last I saw was Q3 on the backflip update and those always get pushed back so I wouldn't hold my breath on it happening before the Shadow/Xtreme release
6/11/2010 10:43:03 PM
^^i'd be pissed at AT&T before motorola or google.
6/11/2010 10:45:13 PM
supposedly they're on pace to put it out in q3
6/11/2010 10:54:46 PM
For anyone that likes the 3D app drawer, try the latest update of Launcher Pro. Fastest 3D app drawer ever.
6/11/2010 11:09:55 PM
Faster than froyo? what the hell did I root this thing for
6/12/2010 12:30:02 AM
Yeah it's way faster and smoother than the stock Froyo launcher.More Shadow/Xtreme pics. Damn thing is HUGE. (That's what she said)

ive got a droid and after the nexus one and the evo, i'm still not really terribly jealous especially with the news of the evo glass separating
6/13/2010 10:03:12 PM
i'm a bit jealous of all you fools running 2.1 and 2.2
6/13/2010 10:07:04 PM
anyone had any luck with the iloveradio app? doesn't work for me
6/13/2010 10:15:09 PM
^^^ evo glass separating? Had my first reboot today...was unlocking the phone and everything froze. I had to remove the battery and restart. Seems fine now. Im running a custom ROM so Im not sure if that was the problem. Managed to improve my battery life a bit by turning off all non-essential syncing (stocks, weather, etc).
6/13/2010 10:53:50 PM
^^works fine for me. a bit slow to load and takes a minute to load stations too, but it works fine otherwise

pretty sure articles like this is what they mean about the screens seperating:http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/13/htc-evo-suffering-from-glass-separation-issues/Probably being blown out of proportion, kinda like some of the N1 issues when it was first released. Hopefully.

Froyo update news...http://www.pcworld.com/article/198702/android_22_upgrade_list_is_your_phone_getting_froyo.html
6/14/2010 9:30:04 AM
So, wait, does this mean I am going to have to reset back to stock in order to get the legit system update? sigh...
6/14/2010 9:36:33 AM
yeah, for the most part, the custom roms block OTA updates but you can also just install a custom rom that has the official release and won't have to worry about losing root.
6/14/2010 9:42:07 AM
whoah are you guys all conspiracy theorists? lol i would wait and see what HTC's official response is before you instantly relegate all negative news about your new phone as a smear campaign from competitorsthey say theyve sold about 200k of these things so it would have to affect probably >10k before they decide to do anything about it other than just replacing those phones with new ones
6/14/2010 10:44:47 AM
^ not sure who you could be talking about... pretty sure nobody blew it up.
6/14/2010 2:32:06 PM
well i was going to make the move today. Went into the store, talked to the sales rep, only to find out my evo would be 1 month waittime before I got it. fuck that. Oh well. Maybe another day.
6/14/2010 6:31:39 PM
^ 1 month? whys that? I just went in and bought one last week.
6/14/2010 6:40:20 PM
^ i went to the store in wilson. I wonder how they do not have stock on something like this and with 1 month wait time?[Edited on June 14, 2010 at 7:03 PM. Reason : s]

I have a replacement coming from RS based on defective screen. I'm pretty sure the water under the screen is a direct result of this "glass separation". It's definitely not flush, but I'm not sure if I'll take the other handset when it comes. We'll see.
6/14/2010 9:23:29 PM
so i wonder why the display stays on when it's charging...seems like it would lead to deterioration over time[Edited on June 14, 2010 at 9:49 PM. Reason : V Evo]
6/14/2010 9:38:01 PM
You mean on a particular device?
6/14/2010 9:43:30 PM
ATT announced the HTC aria today. Nothing really special about it other than it being a decent phone.3.2" screen. 7.2 mb/s 3g capable. 600 Mhz processor. Sense UIJune 20th release]
6/14/2010 9:47:00 PM
that is probably my #1 complaint about the droid, i cannot turn it off and then charge it because it instantly turns itself back on. i guess maybe they didnt build any sort of automatic shutoff to the charging if its not actually running.
6/14/2010 10:08:41 PM
i know that on my backflip there's a setting to make the screen not turn off when it charges, maybe that feature is defaulted on for your phones?
6/14/2010 10:19:41 PM
my Evo screen stays off when its charging......
6/14/2010 10:20:52 PM
^^ no i mean i want the whole phone off, not the displayeven my old blackberry could do that but if you charge it in your bedroom at night there's always going to be a little light in the corner that you have to cover up
