we tried this today at Tyler's Taproom and it was pretty damn goodtoo bad it's probably more than $50 per 6-pack, if you can even buy it around here it's a Japanese Belgian Whiteyummo

not sure how much reach or success they'll eventually have but I was able to enjoy several beer from Ass Clown (Cornelius, NC) this weekend after their official Charlotte launch party at VBGB tap room. organic complex ingredients is their modus operandi and I was impressed overall.? Orange Spice IPA? Dark Chocolate Blueberry Porter? Vanilla Bean Chocolate Brown Alethose were the three I tried ranking in reverse order.
1/23/2012 11:24:00 AM
So they sat around and thought about brand names, and "Ass Clown" is what they came up with?
1/23/2012 12:16:23 PM
Hahahaha despite that I need to check that out by Lake Norman.
1/23/2012 12:37:57 PM
^^yeah, not really sure the origin of the name and from what I do know the company is mainly just one guy right now which is why they have been so delayed in coming to market and getting distribution. if you google and go to their website they have 5-6 "year rounds" that are definitely unique and he has a list of 20+ other eccentric pilot/seasonals. with all of these different and unique recipes I have a hard time believing they'll be able to produce and deliver enough to have any sort of wide distribution. but we'll see.^the tasting room has some strange hours. M-F and only open until 5:30 so it's almost impossible for the working crowd to stop by]

Big news afoot. Sierra's east coast brewery will be in NC!!
1/24/2012 2:00:02 PM

this year's Moo Hoo, from the half dozen or so i've had in the last couple days (both bottle and draught) is much less chocolatey than in years past.
1/24/2012 3:00:28 PM
1/24/2012 4:00:01 PM
what is it cider? no clear glass growlers please!
1/24/2012 6:31:45 PM
eh, just means you need to drink it faster. and i like the clear ones for yeast starters
1/24/2012 6:33:29 PM
1/24/2012 6:38:39 PM
Can someone educate me on growler laws? Apparently in 4/2011 the NC law was changed to allow growlers to be filled "anywhere" provided the filling party identifies what is currently in the growler.NoDa brewing in Charlotte has taken this to mean all labels must be removed and affixed with a single, new label. Other people have told me this is false...
1/24/2012 11:55:46 PM
Had the Victory at Sea at Raleigh Times this past weekend...damn tasty!
1/25/2012 7:48:03 AM
^^the only thing i've been told at NoDa is they don't want to fill other brewery's growlers. So you have to buy a new NoDa growler if you want NoDa beer. I've never heard them mention any other labeling issues. And i guess i can understand that, they want their logo and brand out as much as possible. but i've had my olde hickory growlers filled at other places and taken a red oak growler to olde hickory a few times as well and never had any issues. i've always thought of it as the supporting local bond. But i've never run into any issues anywhere else with growler 'labels'. what exactly did they say?]

Just got out of a meeting with them tonight and their beers will soon be available in local grocery stores and they are already filling orders at on premise accounts in Raleigh. Their Planet Porter on nitro at World of Beer available starting tonight.

My local beer shop got #1 Best Beer Retailer in the US (#2 in the world) by RateBeer:http://www.ratebeer.com/RateBeerBest/table_2011.asp?title=Best+Beer+Retailers+2011&file=retailers_places_2011.csvI will be cracking open my growler of Wake-n-Moo tonight as well while watching the State/UNC game and eating some home cooked Indian food (not a great combination...but I can't keep the growler unopened any longer and I was invited to a good friend's house for Indian cuisine).
1/26/2012 3:26:23 PM
@ Sparkey - Spaten is really good. What style of beer do you want?A pilsner, wheat, something dark...Erdinger Weissbier DunkelThis is a goood beer.[Edited on January 26, 2012 at 3:47 PM. Reason : beer]
1/26/2012 3:39:56 PM
i like all styles but i wanted something that is a little less popular. I do like Spaten but I have a feeling a lot of people will be bringing either Spaten or Becks.
1/26/2012 3:46:31 PM
See edit above. Also, Warsteiner is another good choice.I went through a Spaten phase. It is a good smooth beer and I know what you mean about everyone bringing it.
1/26/2012 3:51:10 PM
sweet!! thanks for the suggestions. can i pick this up at a harris teeter or do i need to go to whole foods or a place like total wine?
1/26/2012 4:03:56 PM
not HT.
1/26/2012 4:07:24 PM
Warsteiner is a good choice for something you can get at Teeter. If you're willing to go to total wine/whole foods, my personal recommendation would be G. Schneider & Sohn Aventinus:It's a wheat doppelbock, malty and smooth, a little potent (8.2 %). One of my favorites and not too expensive, though I've never seen it in a six pack, only 16.9 oz bottles.Or for something truly different from Deutschland you can try a rauchbier (smoked beer). Very unusual and not for everyone, but I like them.[Edited on January 26, 2012 at 4:11 PM. Reason : I'll have to try that Erdinger sometime. Love German beers.]
1/26/2012 4:10:11 PM
Dooood, that does look good. I don't remember seeing it at TW though.[Edited on January 26, 2012 at 4:15 PM. Reason : beer]
1/26/2012 4:12:40 PM
It's outstanding, in my opinion. (Also reviewed very well on beeradvocate). Now that you mention it I'm not sure if I've ever seen it at TW, but it's definitely been at Whole Foods every time I've gone beer shopping there.
1/26/2012 4:13:59 PM
A Rauchbier also sounds good.
1/26/2012 4:19:10 PM
i like where this is going
1/26/2012 4:24:43 PM
