^I figured that's what you meant. We definitely need to add some frontcourt depth (regardless of what CJL does)...maybe a JUCO or 5th year transfer can come in and have a more immediate impact than guys like Anya and Washington.
3/11/2013 10:00:54 PM
5th year senior is our best hope at this point. I imagine if there was a legit JC big man that we would have heard about him by now(like Desmond Lee). I'm hoping like hell we get Djitte and Freeman. We could redshirt one or both of Freeman/Djitte and have Anya/Washington/Warren/Vandenburg to go along with one of them in the 2 post spots. Then of course you have Lewis/Barber/Purvis/Turner at the 1-3 with Warren getting a good number of minutes at the 3 as well.Next years team will allow us to use a lot of different lineups.
3/11/2013 10:13:15 PM
God stop talking about Vandenburg. If he's playing meaningful minutes we will struggle to make the NIT.
3/11/2013 10:23:03 PM
i didn't say he would play meaningful minutes...I said he would be an option for minutes in the post...just like he is this year.
3/11/2013 10:29:34 PM
^^ just be glad they're not talking about jevoni.]
3/11/2013 10:33:19 PM
face reality man. If we don't recruit (it is the recruiting thread, after all), another serviceable big man, we're going to see a ton of Vandenburg next year. Unless you expect Anya, Washington, and Warren (^and Jevoni Robinson!!) to play a combined 80 mpg at the 4/5 (with Warren also splitting time at the 3)
3/11/2013 10:34:35 PM
I expect our main rotation, scarily enough, to consist of Lewis, Barber, Purvis, Turner, Warren, Washington and Anya. Lewis, Barber, Purvis at the 1 & 2. Turner, Warren at the 3. Warren, Washington, Anya at the 4 & 5. I also expect we'll see Vandy for 5-10 minutes per game. Another short bench where foul trouble could hurt us in the post.
3/11/2013 10:38:00 PM
I wonder if Vandy is on track to graduate after this semester? Perhaps he can take advantage of the transfer rule.
3/11/2013 10:40:33 PM
I hope he doesn't, but that wouldn't surprise me at all. And if it did happen, and we don't recruit another bigman74 in '13, that would hurt big-time. We don't need any front-court attrition. Losing Howell & Leslie (who both average 32 mpgs) is going to be painful enough.
3/11/2013 10:46:55 PM
^^^That definitely seems like what we'd be looking at in 2013-14 (assuming CJL and Zo are gone, of course). Which, simply in terms of number of players at each position, is pretty similar to this year's rotation...Except for the obvious youth and inexperience (or in the case of Vandy, a simple lack of talent) across the board, and especially at the 4/5. Which is why a 5th year transfer would be ideal and would provide an immediate impact.Surely the staff will end up adding another player or two to this class in some fashion...recruit/transfer/etc.[Edited on March 11, 2013 at 10:49 PM. 3/11/2013 10:49:15 PM
Vandenburg leaving would be a bonus. Be realistic people. He wouldn't start for Shaw. Dude is a waste of a scholarship.
3/11/2013 10:53:43 PM
TBDV gets CJL type minutes next year and wins the Wooden award. Heard it here first.
3/11/2013 11:01:32 PM
^^I don't understand your "realism" boozie. If Vandy leaves, we currently have Warren and two freshmen at the 4/5. Are yo prepared to play (very) small-ball, with absolutely no one on the bench to defend anyone over 6'5"?
3/11/2013 11:03:19 PM
I'd rather find out what Leslie wants to do ASAP. If he comes back, great. If not, then go after a big man transfer. After that, I'd rather just get another freshman post player that can actually play some quality minutes (if there are any left) vs. having to play Vandy any.
3/11/2013 11:06:59 PM
As of right now Djitte will not be getting an offer any time soon- per some shit I read on rivals
3/11/2013 11:17:42 PM
We've got a few open scholarships, and i'm sure the coaches are still going after the best options, be them JCs or high-schoolers. as far as i'm aware, there's not many prospects still out there who are going to be able to contribute any quality minutes in 2013 (although it appears that we're still following a few hs recruits, and hopefully the coaching staff is still prodding the JC circuit).
3/11/2013 11:17:54 PM

i'm pretty sure he redshirted on a phantom injury just for next year. why would he transfer?
3/11/2013 11:52:06 PM
Any Chance CJL or Zo stay another year? A guy can wish, cant he?
3/12/2013 12:13:17 AM
i'd have to think no chance leslie stays, just b/c it's embarrassing to submit your name and not declare the next year.zo will probably submit his name and love what he hears, if i had to guess. i think zo will make the right decision, but his right decision will be the leave. basically the exact opposite of leslie.
3/12/2013 12:16:12 AM
it's ridiculous how weak this draft class isthey'd both be crazy to stay
3/12/2013 12:25:28 AM
vandenburg sucking so much is really hurting our prospects right now. But hey, not too long ago (last year), Texas was able to use a total scrub in Clint Chapman as a centerpiece to an NCAA team. Weirder things have happened.
3/12/2013 3:14:45 AM
^^agreed, the incoming freshman class next season is stacked, with a lot of guys who will be one-and-done

He's definitely gonna have to add some weight and get a stronger post game, but his touch around the basket looks nice for a soon to be freshman.
3/12/2013 1:12:14 PM
reminds me a bit of the early stuff we saw from TJ warren around the basket.
3/12/2013 3:01:50 PM
Reminds of Marcus Melvin (length and body wise).I've seen videos of his three-point shot as well. Very Melvin-esque.
3/12/2013 3:10:42 PM
yes I too think all left-handed people look and play the same
3/12/2013 3:23:19 PM
Vandenburg is left-handed and he shoots nothing like Marcus Melvin...[Edited on March 13, 2013 at 12:04 PM. Reason : ]

Highlight video, but Washington looks like he's got great touch and footwork around the basket. Glad to have him.
3/13/2013 1:39:28 PM
So are we targeting anyone else for the 2013? Looks like its going to a pretty lean year depth wise again. 3 guards, 2 wings, and 3 forwards (Vandy + 2 freshman lol) right? I feel like we've had no depth for almost a decade now.
3/13/2013 1:47:31 PM
^^ true, though I wish he showed a little more elevation on his jumps. Some of those dunks look like he was barely getting the balll above the rim.
3/13/2013 1:49:02 PM
he appears to have more skill than athleticism
3/13/2013 1:55:07 PM
^^^ It is because we are so ridiculously out of cycle on recruiting because of the number of transfers and busts over the past 4 years. You can't have entire classes without 1 contributing player on the roster(short of being Kentucky just reloading with 5 stars all the time). I imagine Gott is stuck right now between giving scholarships to players he is not sold on and making sure we continue to have them for the future classes that he is working on. Granted you can always find a way to free up a scholarship when a big time player comes along, but we've already seen what happens when you start giving out scholarships to warm bodies. Those players end up leaving when younger players take their time or becoming worthless players that get a free ride to just practice. He is doing what he should, 3-4 solid ACC caliber committed players a year plus a needed transfer here and there. Just painful in the meantime.[Edited on March 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Reason : .]

We won't be getting anymore recruits this year for the same reason Randle isn't coming here...Leslie is coming back. You heard it here first.

We need Leslie back. Actually I think Leslie would have been better had we had people off the bench who could come in without the offense basically shutting down. Would have allowed Gott to sit him more when he started doing crazy stuff and give him a little more leeway to not worry about foul trouble so much.
3/13/2013 3:02:53 PM
somebody go ahead and tweet this so we can create a ruckus on pp

3/13/2013 3:49:40 PM
Leslie isn't coming back without Brown, and Brown isn't coming back. Neither one wants to be the only senior on a team full of freshman and sophomores. Not only that, if Leslie comes back, he'll be 23 by the time his first NBA season starts. Unless he improves dramatically, he probably won't even get drafted.
3/13/2013 4:26:42 PM
Not this again please? Can we just wait and see? Or at least move it out of the recruiting thread and into the CJ thread?
3/13/2013 4:32:34 PM
yeah we all saw what happened to Miles Plumlee last year
