I take comfort in the fact that Gottfried won't leave like a bitch with 14 seconds left no matter how bad it gets.

Shitty game. Move on, beat Virginia this weekend and we're all good

Everybody talking about gameplans...I don't even know how you can tell what our gameplan was because we didn't execute anything successfully. Was our gameplan to get our shit pushed back in our face in the low block? Was it to take wild ass jump shots that didn't even draw iron? Was it to miss free throws and play deplorable transition defense? I mean, where do you even start?
1/26/2012 8:58:20 PM
Weird. You want to agree with us but are too contrarian to do so. It's obvious we tried to run our regular offensive actions, and we just executed poorly because we match up so poorly down low. It's not some mystical, undecipherable puzzle.Needed to adjust our game for the opponent. We didn't and as a result, we get embarrassed. Like I said, we lose anyway, but we could have at least had some sort of moral victory, whatever that is worth.
1/26/2012 9:18:55 PM
i dont think the game plan matters when you get outrebounded by 20we need some big men taller than 6'8. bring in that juco kid from california and get vandenberg on the hgh

Fire Gottfried

we were dead in the water when howell picked up his 3rd. CJ being CJ didn't help either.
1/26/2012 9:26:11 PM
Our game plan was obviously to not run anything for scott wood. Worked pretty well if I do say so myself
1/26/2012 9:26:36 PM
^^^^^ You realize those rebounding numbers aren't an intrinsic gap, right? Sure, they have a huge rebounding advantage because they are better athletes. But given that knowledge and given that the team presumably is competitive and wants to try the best they can to win, you adjust your game plan to work away from their strength. For example, slowing the game down, taking better shots, not trying to have 6-6 guys post up 7 footers. If we did that type of thing, the rebounding gap would be smaller.I can't point to a single thing we did to even attempt to tip the scales in our favor.^ We ran our regular sets for wood, and they didn't work. We needed to drive and kick to Wood, not have Wood try to outrun faster guys around screens.[Edited on January 26, 2012 at 9:33 PM. Reason : .]
1/26/2012 9:30:59 PM
wood got open in garbage timewhen it mattered though, he was just standing around...dunno if thats on gottfried or wood, probably a combo
1/26/2012 9:34:00 PM
yeah, we can take jumpshots to counter that...(oh)
1/26/2012 9:36:11 PM
1/26/2012 9:36:58 PM
Wood rarely gets open looks in the half court, which is a shame. The majority of his three's come in transition or blown plays/offensive rebounds. I hated Lowe's offense with a passion, but he at least ran sets to get Wood some free looks. Wish we'd occasionally do the same.
1/26/2012 9:47:25 PM
this team just doesn't know how to play against more talented players. that's all there is to it.[Edited on January 26, 2012 at 10:07 PM. Reason : i love gottfried though.]

+1 for leaving no man behind. +1 for no blazer -90 for not having TOB do the pregame speech
1/26/2012 11:24:10 PM
Yeah Gottfried gets a big minus for that one.I clearly explained that taking the ball down low would never work against unc and that we needed to shoot the ball rather than throw it out of bounds. He needs to man up and take the blame for that piss poor gameplan. It's like he had no idea what we were up against, game was over five minutes in.Also the Shitty no try defense is back. Every shot wide open
1/27/2012 2:31:29 AM
1/27/2012 8:45:03 AM
The point is when you take a shot that has absolutely no chance of going in it allows unc to get easy rebounds and start their transition.Look how easy we made things for them. Marshall looked lost out there but if you just looked at the box score you'd think he had a good game
1/27/2012 8:51:50 AM
it's not like no one took jumpshots. they just bricked the fuck out of them.
1/27/2012 8:57:25 AM
^ Most of them weren't good jump shots though. MAYBE 15-20% of our shots were good looks. The offense just looked horrible last night. Too much of trying to force it down low and too much one-on-one. -1 to Gottfried and staff for the bad game plan and/or -1 to the team for bad execution.
1/27/2012 9:06:52 AM
there were a ton of really badly missed shots. ZO had 5 that barely hit the Rim, painter had 3-5 (one air ball) that weren't close. Calvin threw it over the rim. Scott missed badly (a rim out is a bad miss for Scott one) hell we banked in 5 shots. Unless we have integrated the bank shot into the offense i'll count those as misses, too. 25% shooting in the first. All i can take away from this game is we are not ready to face a top 10 team in their house. Now the question is can we beat a top 20 team in our house.
1/27/2012 9:10:12 AM
The high post is all well and good against Stanford and Miami, but when you're going up against one of the best defensive frontcourts I've seen in over two decades of watching ACC basketball, perhaps you try other methods.I don't like how we've neutered Lorenzo this year. He clearly needs another guard to help him with ball handling responsibilities, but he is still adequate enough to drive to the basket. We can't afford for him to take on the role of "game manager" against elite competition. He is the game, he has to be our lead attacker. The problem is once the players discovered they'd been set up to fail with a horrible gameplan they reverted to the Lowe days where CJL just tries 1 on 1 moves from the 3 point line. That was as blatant of a "hey this shit isn't going to work, let me try what worked in high school" transition as you'll ever see.Painter took a jumper 3 seconds into the shot clock one time from just inside the arc. I'm pretty sure he hadn't even finished catching the pass before he put it up.I just hope we haven't hit our annual midseason collapse already. If we rebound and beat UVA this weekend then our season isn't too affected because in all reality we were losing that game nearly everytime. But a loss like that can definitely have repercussions if the team has lost faith.

there is a big difference between a top 10 team and a top 50 team, especially playing away. unc did a great job taking us out of whatever our gameplan was and we weren't able to adjust. it's highly unlikely that duke, osu, ku, or uk would be expected to win at UNC so people shouldn't get too upset over the loss. we were essentially playing with house money. however, it was a very ugly loss and we could've made it a bit more respectable.
1/27/2012 10:21:27 AM
we were playing with house money for 30 seconds. For the next 39 minutes and 30 seconds it was more like we were taking money shots to the face

I'd say he loses a little credibility for investing in a ponzi scheme:"Donnan also helped attract other prominent figures to invest. Among the names listed in federal filings are Texas State football coach Dennis Franchione, Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer, ex-Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer, Texas Tech football coach Tommy Tuberville, Texas Tech basketball coach Billy Gillispie and North Carolina State basketball coach Mark Gottfried."http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/Kendrell-Bell-accuses-former-Georgia-coach-Jim-Donnan-of-two-million-dollar-scam-012712

People who have a problem w/ us posting down low apparently didn't h LoBo/Scott Wood/ Williams shooting abilities that game either.
1/28/2012 7:58:24 AM
Lobo is a stupid fucking nickname. Please stop.
1/28/2012 11:51:29 AM
I like LoBrow
1/28/2012 12:02:46 PM
I like d-lo brown. If only he would wear a chest protector. His name isn't lorenzo bown.
1/28/2012 12:06:25 PM
unc knew where all of our pass were going. they fronted the high post spectacularly, they jumped ahead of screen before they were set. unc knew our offense better than we did and that is clearly a result of the 8 day layoff. that much time should never be given to a team during conference/scheduleconspiracy
1/28/2012 12:11:42 PM
1/28/2012 12:13:24 PM
look ive come up with LoBron, Lobo, and Lobes. someone has to bitch about each one. he has to have a nickname you cant just type Lorenzo brown he's a star player for christ sakeIVE GOT IT.From henceforth onward he will be known as ZOBO.
1/28/2012 12:28:08 PM
You're going out of your way not to type "Lo" or "Zo". You know he has "Z" and "O" tattooed on the back of his arms, right?
1/28/2012 12:38:56 PM
^^ hey man, why did we fuck up so much on Thursday, and what possible rationale is their for feeding to the post non stop? And why oh why is it so hard for Wood to get open when JJ could do it at will?[Edited on January 28, 2012 at 12:41 PM. Reason : df]
1/28/2012 12:41:13 PM
i think we continued to feed the post because thats the offense we installed this year and we aren't far enough along to have a backup plan. Everyone knew our only option was to get ZOBO playing a two man game or driving and dishing but we didn't even try it once. It's like no one looked at the tape of last year and saw that was the only thing that worked for us.JJ got open more often because he was a better athlete and he ran tirelessly from bseline to baseline coming off screens. Some of it was a function of Coach K's offense but a lot of it was just plain hard work.
1/28/2012 12:51:19 PM
