Beats me...but our umbrella from babies r us for $20 (iirc) with a sunshade and back pouch for a few items is pretty awesome.

I was reading a previous post about dairy cravings.... when I was pregnant with my first son all I wanted was milk (I never liked milk before), by the end of the pregnancy I was drinking almost a gallon a day. he came out 10 lbs 8 oz. I swear it was all the milk!!!!

Pretty much. I've used a bunch of different ones and they're all more or less the same. It's definitely not something I'd spend $texas on.

I had a doctor's appointment this morning

Doctor said I'm measuring on the "large side of normal" and that the baby is measuring at 38 weeks...and the baby's head is down. But I'm not dialated

I really need to pack my hospital bag ASAP

So my brother has absolutely no patience and won't/can't sit still for long periods of time. So sitting in a hospital waiting room for an unknown amount of time won't work for him.

He wants to "tailgate" in the the Rex Women's Center parking lot. Anybody know the rules on that? I've never heard of somebody doing that before but leave it to my brother to do it and then Rex having to make a rule about it. He wants a couple kegs and maybe a food truck or two to come out. My dad is all for the food truck idea b/c of everybody that will be waiting for my baby to be born.

Only problem I really see with it are the open container laws. And yeah probably the hospital would not be happy with alcohol in their parking lot haha. For the food truck, Rex Hospital would need to obtain a Food Truck Zoning Permit which I can't really see them forking out the money for

Yeah. Not going to happen. Sometimes nurses will look the other way for celebratory champagne, but a tail gate at the hospital just isn't going to happen.

Is there a particular reason he needs to be at the hospital and not say at the office partying it up? I doubt you're even going to want visitors until you've been moved into the recovery room and had a chance to take a shower. Plenty of time for him to make the six minute drive to the hospital from there.

my brother & his wife came by while i was having contractions but not actively pushing yet. he couldn't handle seeing me in pain so he had to leave.

you're probably not going to want many people there or really care if they're there. after she was born, i wanted my parents around, especially my mom, but i didn't care to see ANYBODY else for a couple of days. i feel like it would have been an easier transition into motherhood had parker not been down in the nicu for 2 days, but that wasn't my choice to make.

What did you do with it afterward? I thought about doing one but then realized it would just sit in the attic collecting dust most likely.

It's in his nursery on display on top of his bookcase. I never decorated it, but I still plan to. It will more than likely find its way to a trashcan in 5-10 years, but I really enjoyed making it and would do it again.

Something I never thought about in advance regarding FMLA:

I used my entire 12 weeks. Well, when I returned to work, I had no sick time, no vacation time, nothing. So, because my daughter was in daycare, she was sick OFTEN. I was using sick time/vacation time as fast as I could accumulate it to stay home with her (because she couldn't go to daycare.) Even after being back at work a year and a half after she was born, I still hadn't accumulated more than like a day of sick time or vacation time. I felt like I could never recover from that. Nevermind being able to take a sick day when I was sick.

In hindsight, I probably should have reserved a little bit of that FMLA time for sick days, doctor's appointments, therapy appointments, etc.

Anybody out there have any other suggestion of how I should have handled that?

^ Yep, that's our plan. Also for some of my FMLA I'm going to log the minimum 32 hours/week to keep my benefits in place so I don't end up draining my entire bank of PTO.

"Currently 39 weeks paid, indefinite delay on planned rise to 52 weeks indefinitely[16] (6 weeks at 90% of full pay and remainder at a flat rate (as of 2011 = £128.73) or 90% of your salary if that is less than the flat rate). This is the statutory minimum; most employers often provide more generous arrangements."

Yeah America's parental leave system is retarded. And I don't know where that Wikipedia chart is getting that the US has 3 weeks paid. We don't have any mandated paid leave in this country

I guess this will be my last post in this thread

Had my baby boy via c-section at 2:17pm on Wednesday

In pain now bc of the incision but trying to stay on top of the pain with meds. Supposed to go home tomorrow. Finally felt well enough to take a shower this morning and it was glorious. Having a bit of difficulty with breast feeding so I am having to supplement my breastmilk with some formula.

Baby Henry has had lots of guests so far.

Don't stress too much over the breastfeeding... We tried and tried and Madelyn just wouldn't latch on and we were both super stressed over it. We ended up using a pump for the first few months and just bottle fed her and didn't look back.

definitely don't stress. go with your gut.

curious though...what kind of problems are you having? latch issues or has your milk not come in yet? Ryan was slightly tongue tied which made things very difficult. I ended up getting a lot of help from Dr Vijay at Blue Ridge Pediatics (I think that's where you said you were going?). She gave me some great tips...moreso than the lactation consultant at the hospital--LC didn't even catch that he had it.

Came home from the hospital with Henry on Saturday afternoon.

Running on about 10 hours of sleep since. But its all worth it when I look at him. He is adorable.

About the breastfeeding thing, I worked with the lactation consulatants at Rex and they were having problems getting him to latch on. Its very frustrating. They had me pump to get him some breastmilk and mixed what I was able to pump with a little bit of formula. My milk has come in now and I can pump every few hours and get a good feeding or two out of it. My mom had problems breastfeeding me and my brother so she pumped instead. And we turned out just fine

I wish I had taken an extra bag for all the stuff they give you at the hosptial to take home (or stuff you swipe )

^^i hope you didn't take what I said to be breast-nazism--i'm pro breastfeeding but i'm not one of those. I also am of the if it's breast milk it's breast milk camp...bottle or boob. Pumping is hard, hard work. Was just sympathizing and letting you know about dr vijay, if I was right in remembering where you decided on a pediatrician. She was very helpful, so I just wanted to pass that along.

I know too much about kernicterus (a rare neurological condition brought on by severe jaundice), to be 100% pro breastmilk as well.

No no, I didnt take offense to what you said. I am going to Blue Ridge Pediatrics (the brier creek location). Dr. Vijay came by the hospital room on Friday to see Henry. She was really nice

Henry had his first doctor's visit this morning. Gotta love getting him all dressed and then he pees and you have to undress him, change his diaper and then dress him again.

Oh and I got peed on yesterday. The joys of having a boy. And today he had a poopy diaper so I went to change him but apparently he wasn't done yet. Just taking a brief poop break before the 2nd act

we supplemented when parker's jaundice got really bad, borderline going back for hospitalization. it started to clear the next day. my milk came in, we had oversupply, latch, AND reflux problems. started pumping exclusively after several weeks. went back to work & i gradually dried up over 4 weeks or so. i went through a ton of shit to try to get BFing to work (UNC lactation consultants, all the different positions, exams, supplements, etc) but it just wasn't for us. mom was the one who continued to push me to breastfeed. there are lots of people on babycenter forums who will try to beat you up over it too (thankfully tww trained me for this). i never had that glowy happy feeling about breastfeeding that people talk about. there were a few nice moments when she was nursing herself to sleep, but those were few. doing something a million times a day that results in a baby screaming bloody murder & bruised nipples is not pleasant. we completely stopped breastfeeding/pumping/lactation at about 11 weeks postpartum. baby will be 15 weeks tomorrow.

don't kill yourself over it. your baby will be fine on either breast milk or formula.
