I hope Blacksburg, VA, aka Satan's Asshole, is hit by a meteor tonight.
10/2/2010 11:19:09 PM
It's not really the fact that we lost today, it is more of how we lost that has most of us pissed. We had that game in hand and should have put it out of reach in the first half. RW's INT in the end zone towards the end of the half was a big momentum shifter.

what makes me most angry is that in the post-game no player or coach mentioned a dang thing about the poor playcalling/russell's decision makingthat's what lost it for usridiculous
10/3/2010 12:40:07 AM
People trying to nail this game to a few issues is . This was a cluster fuck of fail. Bad coaching. Bad playing. The biggest positive I saw was the punts were decent .
10/3/2010 12:50:47 AM
^^ ohmy, are u insane? which coach or player is gonna throw another coach or player under the bus in front of the media? I've never heard a coach say "we made poor play calls" or "our QB sucks". It's obvious what the problem is, dwelling on playcalling and an aberrant night for RW is not gonna help.and i sure as hell hope the students aren't a bunch of limpwristed, fairweather walmart douche's and stop supporting the team due to this loss.on how we lost: this team doesn't have enough collective experience to deal with a game of this magnitude yet. They could have won but clearly weren't ready for broadway yet. they will be, this loss will cause a lot of them to grow up even more. Look, we've got a good team. Chance to be a really special team. Some of the fundamentals still need to be worked on, but not like last year (i don't care how many points we gave up, we lost to a good damn team today), but the teams biggest challenge going fwd is the mental challenge, learning how to handle all the pressure, the media, the chicks, the hype, but to do that we have to be in more of these kinds of games, and we will be.[Edited on October 3, 2010 at 12:58 AM. I'll be back next week yelling just like this week hoping that we take out some frustration on BC and play some grown man football. Still plenty of games to earn a trip to Charlotte (maybe to play vt).

I know Nate is in on every tackle but I see him run by a SHIT ton of plays. He misses a lot of tackles because of ts well as trying to grab them and swing them. That being said he played a great. Wish the team would have done as well. Though, I feel confident about the game against BC.
10/3/2010 3:32:48 AM
a man for all seasons
10/3/2010 3:51:17 AM
Not much to say. RW didn't play well and we lost. You can look at the reasons why and analyze all game long but he is the single most important player on the team and he didn't look comfortable for the last 3/4 of the game. Period. Also, I have to say there seemed like a good deal of Va Tech fans there in numbers and I've always heard good things about them but they were just awful. They made little noise (less noise than UNC, ECU, FSU and even Wake Forest fans have in C-F imo) and the isolated pockets of them were filled with complete arrogant douches... For a school that has NEVER won a title and has generally sucked ass in the BCS they sure act like their shit don't stink...
10/3/2010 8:29:44 AM
holy shit, I've never seen a bigger group of "the sky is falling" fans ever. not just in this thread, but at the game too, some guy behind me and Allie kept yelling about how this is some Chuck Amato shit after VT's first points were put on the board. everyone IN THIS THREAD was talking about how this game would be the game to lose this season, well we lost this game. But its not like we got blown out"- Russell wasnt Russell- Beamer and Bud Foster are damn good coaches who did their job and made the right halftime adjustments- the refs didnt call a single penalty on VaTech until the 3rd quarter (I counted a good 4-5 holding penalties that went uncalled)- our defense gave up points in 5 out of vatech's 7 second half drivesAnd we still were one drive away from winning this gameAs long as we dont pull a 2006-2009 NCSU football team move, and are able to stop the bleeding with a win next game, we will be perfectly fine everyone. take a breath and relax, shit
10/3/2010 8:32:41 AM
we were outscored 41-13 after the first quarter
10/3/2010 8:50:15 AM
Key factors to me:1) We did seem to take our foot off the gas after going up 17-0, first on offense.2) Dana Bible didn't seem to make the right adjustments. We continued to try fades and corner routes when they were rarely working, and when they did we would go 3 and out. The seam posts and crossing routes were there, but we didn't take it. Russell probably bears some of the blame in not reading the defense and hitting his open man in the post as well. We also need to establish some sort of running game/balance, and standard runs up the middle didn't work. Our line was better suited to draws, screens, swing passes and the like.3) Our defense is talented but doesn't have the depth to stay on the field that long, when there was a lack of sustained drives in the second half. This probably accounts for many of the missed tackles, assignments, etc. later in the game. It may also be the reason we seemed to stop using the contain blitzing, even though Tyrod is not going to hurt us with his arm.4) Some bad penalties in key situations.5) VT plays a very aggressive defensive style, in many ways with the mentality of the old FSU teams. They were called for some pass interferences but got away with many more PI/defensive holding. On our last drive down to North Endzone, George Bryan was hugged by a linebacker for 15 yards, let go of when the pass was thrown and nothing was called (for one example).6) This is still a team getting used to playing in big games/moments and playing for 60 minutes.
10/3/2010 8:54:41 AM
the thing that upset me most while sitting in my seat was that we persistently tried to run the ball up the middle. in the entire game we probably lost downs by running the ball up the middle 15 times. It worked one time. Why not throw a pitch to the outside or at least redirect a little bit. their rush defense in the middle of the field was clearly better than our running game.
10/3/2010 9:11:04 AM
I've been miffed by Bibles play calling ever since he got here. It seems like we try to do the whole "we're going to tell you that we're going to run over you and pass around you and you have to try and stop it" without actually having the talent to do it. I can't recall the last time I saw a reverse called and we call it at the 50 after a 40 yd run up the middle on 1st down. Why? Do we even have the screen in our playbook? With as much penetration as they were getting I think that would have worked well last night. The dump to the RB just off the edge of the line worked super well the 2-3 times we decided to run it in the second half. On that last interception it would have went for 20 yds there as well.[Edited on October 3, 2010 at 9:21 AM. Reason : .]
10/3/2010 9:19:53 AM
^we ran screens with moose a couple of time earlier in the season. don't know what happened to them. maybe those pages of the play book got lost.wilson, sort of looked like he was playing madden last night. meaning he seemed to have a predetermined receiver set before he even broke the huddle. he didn't look to be checking down because he missed wide open receivers numerous times. in reality this probably has something to do with knowing the offense line he has to make his checks behind.
10/3/2010 9:32:12 AM
I just hope our fans get up for BC b/c in the past, BC is a team we have never gotten up for...plus it is a noon game.BC doesn't carry the same "hoopla" as names like Virginia Tech, Clemson, FSU, ECU, Carolina, etc...people are like, "oh, we're playing BC"
10/3/2010 9:52:48 AM
Unfortunately we failed and failed miserably in our first real test of the season. Turnovers will kill you every time and that is what did it here. Another thing NCSU seems to forget is the game is 60 minutes long.
10/3/2010 10:03:32 AM
at least we lost to a respectful team. And still dominated them first half. I am very excited for this season still
10/3/2010 10:18:28 AM
A back and forth game against a much more talented team is hardly a "failure"
10/3/2010 10:19:32 AM
Unfortunately most outside of the fan base will see this as proof we can't beat a real team and we will go forward without much respect as always. Perhaps that is a kick in the ass we need who knows.
10/3/2010 10:29:25 AM
i would have to agree. the loss sucks. complete failure? no sir...very excited about the rest of our games!

I was pretty disappointed with the number of fans I saw get up and leave when they scored the go ahead touchdown. I mean seriously there is over a minute left and we have all 3 timeouts and a TD wins the game and you are leaving??
10/3/2010 11:40:06 AM
^^ my buddy told me he saw this as well. Shortly after the VT fan tried to fight someone and then got pushed down the stairs. Is this the same thing you saw?
10/3/2010 11:44:40 AM
sadly our university does embarrass ourselves with our fan population sometimes. we had some students who got assigned seats next to our season ticket seats. they were a problem to say the least. a lone VT fan was sitting next to them; he was a very nice guy around 50. kept to himself, our normal season ticket holders click welcomed him so on and so forth. one of the students clapped in his face repeatedly, yelled PACK directly in his ear numerous times during first half WOLF PACK chants. you get the picture. the VT who was obviously sick of it sat there stone faced with his eyes on the field through all of it. the people in the row with him offered to sit next to the students so he could slide down the bench 4 seats, and he declined politely.this continued for a while through the first quarter. at the start of the second it continued and i finally lashed out at him. my hand was shaking i was so pissed off. i yelled at him for about 10 seconds to leave the guy alone and enjoy the game on his own accord not at the expense of others etc. at this point he was bothering numerous state fans around us as well. his friends all threatened me in the typical we got your back fashion. i don't really back down so i just stood there my eyes dead locked on the one kid. after a bit of what kind of state fan are you garbage words to me he shut his mouth the rest of the half.after halftime the VT fan sadly didn't come back, of course i can't blame him. the 4 students showed up with about 8 minutes to go in the third of course. 3 of them markedly more drunk. the 1 student who i had words with came back with coke on his nose and across the side of his index finger. his buddy had to give him the wipe your nose signal. while i appreciate debbie yow generating student tickets for such a big game, and i appreciate students' dedication to sit in the rain and wait for their shot at a ticket for such a big game, this situation was ridiculous and inexcusable. i'm curious if any other season ticket holders had similar experiences. i know their were a couple of people around me calling the wolf pack club on monday to complain.

^yup that's 1 of the 2 plays i'm talking about. the next one is the pick wilson threw in the endzonethat's at least +3 points in our favorso that's 10 points right there and the win.also, if you take away that huge pass over the middle late 4th quarter there's another 7 points.so 17 point swing in just 3 boneheaded plays by us. you take just 2 of those out and we win.i can't wait to play them in charlotte. there i said it. it's gonna happen.
