I guarantee you will see results with P90X. That is, if you maintain a fairly healthy diet in addition to working out.

I got the DVDs and just started doing it. I also got all the logs and shit, so it was easy to just pick a date (to keep it simple I picked a Monday) and started it.

The hardest thing for me is to get in a routine of actually doing the work.

so far, I've only needed some dumbells and a pullup bar. Those days are the only days I go to the gym for the workout. The other days (like plyometrics) I just do it in my garage.

how do you do the p90x at your gym? do you just know the routine and do it there?

i have p90x but i was hesitant to start it bc of the equipment needs and my travel schedule. thats why i went with insanity

thinking i will do p90x after insanity but not every single day. however i will continue the meal plan. i have been successful with that for going on 3 weeks so its become a habit & i dont spend as much time figuring out my meals because i already know how it stacks up

My friends and I do the P90X and Insanity routines in our gym (from our iPods or iPhones) or we reserve a conference room at my office and watch the workouts on a projector screen.

I have all the videos on my sansa view, so I just watch what they're doing and how they do it, and then do it as they keep talking. Also, I take a notebook in the gym with me to write everything down. Its kind of a pain in the ass, I'd like to do it all in the garage if I could. I'm sure people think I'm retarded looking at my view all the time. lol.

I take the laptop in there with an extension cord if needed. I'll set up in a place with the most space and least foot traffic.

Also, some routines are on the workout sheet.

^ Did you alter your diet at all for P90x?

Just put today's eating into Fit Day for the first time and good god, no wonder I'm having trouble.

Carbs are way too high... this oatmeal bar thing I eat has 44g of carbs and 22g of sugar

Gotta make some major changes. It's 40% Carbs, 40% Protein, 20% Fat, right?

I would bet the biggest gains are from altering diet.

Then, there is no doubt that p90x works because it's 1.5 fucking hours a day. You can do basically anything for that long and see results.

The only question is whether you can stay committed to any 1.5 hour/day program for 3 months.

Since it doesn't require a lot of equipment and it tells you exactly what to do, p90x may make that easier than other exercise programs. But there should really be no surprise or doubt that the program will work.

Quoting from a dedicated fitness forum:

Quote :
"When you see these infomercials on TV you go "wow, that looks good", "oh they are even doing!" "oh look it even hits the abs", "my oh my they are smart people"...but when you study fitness, have some questions of your own...you begin to realize this P90x shit is just another bullshit. I mean I saw the TurboJam commercials on tv so much that I almost fell in their web..then I read up on it. Problem solved."

...found by Googling "p90x bullshit".

Quote :
"p90x is good but its not that good. training with free weights and starting strength is probably 5x more effective for less overall work."

Just to reiterate...

I figured I should finally put some pictures up. At the moment I'm technically up 6 lbs from where I was when this all started, but I gained all that within the past week since I was convinced I wasn't eating enough. It doesn't seem to have too much of an effect one way or the other.

Oh and please excuse the wicked roadster tan on my arms. It used to look like this: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs047.snc3/13435_808038153019_11802080_43893469_8305789_n.jpg

For both the seasoned fitness gym rat and the person who barely know what a weight is, the programs offer a no-brainer approach to getting in shape. Its an easy way to have a program that you can follow on a day to day basis. I, too, don't think they are all that special, but that's because I have an idea of what it takes (in and out of the gym) to get to my goals, and why. For someone who doesn't know, wants a program to follow, or just wants something new to experiment with then its great.

They are the 'oldschool' way but just packaged and presented differently. So really, just let these people do what they want

That's why I want to try it. I'll be in a situation where I can use the school gym but I really don't want to have to rely on it to get results... I'd rather have a heavy workout in my own place that isn't always packed (or close to it)

i was talking to my trainer yesterday - and he showed me how to calculate my RMR

weight*10*1.4 = Calories burned per day (outside of exercise)

i know that fit day calculates it for you if you want to plug it in - but that's the calculation. he said 1.4 is about average for most people, unless you're doing a lot of strenuous activity during the day or being completely sedentary and not moving.

just fwiw

^^Out of curiousity, why isn't it just body weight * 14 = RMR? What's the point of putting 10*1.4 in there?

Are we supposed to flex in our photos? I thought it was just at ease photos

^ I flex in my photos because ... well, I just want to

SPEAKING of flexing... I was bored the other day and flexing in the mirror (haha) to see what I would like to work on the most. I just want to know where the hell my trap muscles came from?!?! I guess even though I haven't been losing the inches I wanted to (due to my own fault) I can at least say my trap/shoulder/back is looking pretty good these days and I noticed I hardly have any fat on the inside of my arms near my shoulders now... it's muscle, woot!

There's another way to say "I don't have the time or patience" without sugar coating it.

At least be honest with us and say, "I'm too lazy to do it."

There's no "quick fix" to looking good. There's no "magic bullet." There's no "perfect solution."

Every body is different. And every body needs a specific program. And that specific program requires both education and dedication to develop.

And saying, "I don't have the time or patience" just shows complacency and lack of effort (a sugar coated way of saying "you're being lazy.") And you will never get to where you want with that attitude.

If you "just wanna look good" without trying or caring, the plastic surgery office is down the street.

And education isn't that hard. There are numerous guides on the internet, books, and forums where you can learn about which exercises target which muscle groups, about dieting, about everything. In the time it takes to finish that bowl of nonfat ice cream while watching The Office, you could have done some research on what exercises you could do to develop your shoulders.

What you're asking for is a "PUSH PLAY ON DVD MACHINE, JUMP UP AND DOWN, GET FIT" and that just doesn't exist.

The Thighmaster, The Bender Ball, Tae-Bo, Zumba, I think hula-hooping is the the one this year. Companies make billions each year feeding this crap to people. Quick fixes that are "easy" and "fun" and "simple."

But the truth is that getting in shape is hard and it takes work. People got to where they were through literal blood, sweat, and tears. That's what it takes.

God, would you look down on people who work off pre-written lifting programs too? They're still doing the work, getting in those blood, sweat and tears ... but since they are being lazy by not reinventing the wheel and designing their own program from scratch, they're just going to stay fat, right?

begonias wrote almost all of my workouts for 2+ months. I lost inches and became stronger, even though I wasn't writing all my stuff.

I'm now using that prewritten workout schedule over again... am I lazy, even though I'll put in a minimum of one hour of lifting? Or work really hard on cardio exercises she wrote out?

You will definitely get fit from Insanity, Tae-Bo and Zumba. It's hard work. You'll sweat your ass off. You'll feel muscles working for the first time in years. You will be sore for days. If you knock Insanity and P90X before you try it, then you're just being close-minded.

So for the past while I have been trying to eat better and dropped some pounds simply from that. After talking to my sister and her fiance who are big into working out and nutrition they have ruined food for me. They gave me this 120 page article on basically how marketing tricks us into thinking we are actually eating healthy and explains what and exactly why everything is bad for you. Pretty much explaining that you can scrap calorie counting and so called diets and rely on your body. If you are eating the right foods and not all the crap that you think is healthy then you simply eat when you are hungry and let the body and nature take care of it. Unfortunately the food listed as actually being good for you eliminates like 90% of what most of us eat every day .
