11/19/2012 11:46:00 AM

11/19/2012 11:55:27 AM
except for the fact that Navy sucks in every sport but football.
11/19/2012 12:02:50 PM
Lets try to get East Carolina.

No big deal. SEC is coming calling tomorrow for us anyway.
11/19/2012 12:19:02 PM
wish they would take Len Elmore with them
11/19/2012 12:19:22 PM
The sky is not falling for the ACC. If anything, we have an opportunity to fill the space with a school that has been more relavent than maryland in both football and basketball in the last 10 years. Maryland left because they have mismanaged their funds to the point of having no other choice. And the Big 10, in selecting Maryland and probably Rutgers, has just shown their weakness, not strength, in grabbing two underperforming schools. The $50M exit fee legal battle will take a long time, and we will have gotten someone to fill Maryland's place by the time that is all settled.
11/19/2012 12:23:22 PM
this is the first time I've been legitimately pessimistic about the ACC dissolving no good. no good at all.[Edited on November 19, 2012 at 12:26 PM. Reason : I <3 the ACC]
11/19/2012 12:25:43 PM
I don't understand why being back to 13 teams is a bad thing. We will be back at 14 when Notre dame joins which is too many anyway. Clemson and FSU joining the sec wouldn't even be backbreaking. I think that would allow our teams to get better at football.
listening to a maryland reporter on the radio now...you might be able to blame debbie yow for them leaving. she pushed for the expansion of the football stadium and that has put maryland in their current financial system. maryland is just looking for a quick way to make a buck.
11/19/2012 12:31:27 PM
Having better football records does not equal being better at football. If anything, having Clemson and FSU makes other teams try to match their level to become better.
11/19/2012 12:33:20 PM
Ok, so who's going to step up to the plate to ruin our football seasons? Good riddance. Now two of the three teams I irrationally hate with a passion are a part of the big 10.
11/19/2012 12:36:16 PM
We just accepted ND with football game requirements. FSU/Clempson/ect aren't going anywhere. Clempson voted for the $50M buyout - why would they do that if they wanted to leave? This is nothing but good news. UMD athletics was going bankrupt. They can't sell tickets and their sports teams are in shambles. They had to make a change to keep from folding their entire athletic dept. Good riddance. The joke is on the Big 10.I for one am extremely happy. Now how do we get rid of BC???

11/19/2012 12:46:44 PM
I assume he means Louisville but that is simply an extreme longshot and even UL people know it. Big XII is their only real option..
11/19/2012 12:49:03 PM
Hey guys with UConn, the ACC can claim 8 of the last bball 13 titles. Suck on that SEC football.ACC! ACC!
11/19/2012 1:13:36 PM
I wish basketball would have won in the long runbut football controls every. single. decision.
11/19/2012 1:17:59 PM
ftr I actually think UL is a better choice for the ACC. Academics don't mean shit and with UNC no one takes them seriously anyway.
11/19/2012 1:26:25 PM
11/19/2012 1:28:58 PM
UCONN to ACC? Snooze.
11/19/2012 1:41:38 PM
11/19/2012 1:44:39 PM
Can we name the reasons why we hate Maryland again? That might make me feel a little better about this.
11/19/2012 1:49:42 PM
I just don't think some of you see the bigger picture. We are getting Syracuse and Pitt already. While neither of them have had a great last 2 years, historically they are a helluva lot better than Maryland in football. By adding UConn, we replace Maryland with a Maryland like school in football (not great, but no worse), but add a superior basketball school.Since 2000, with the inclusion of the 3 new schools, and removing Maryland's title, the ACC would have won 7 of the last 13 NCAA basketball titles (no one can compete with us), and I think our football will also be better eventually with Pitt and Syracuse. Win Win.[Edited on November 19, 2012 at 1:52 PM. Reason : .]

11/19/2012 2:02:26 PM
Lets be clear, athletic performance means nothing. It's about TV money. If ACC thinks UConn gives them a bigger slice of New York with the Big Ten going for NYC with the Rutgers grab, then that's the choice they make.Louisville is a good market but even a sliver of the NYC market gives you more advertising revenue I'm sure. Not sure how already locking up Syracuse affects UConns viability in that market.** from an athletic standpoint, UL is the choice.[Edited on November 19, 2012 at 2:06 PM. Reason : Clarify from other post I made]

South Florida and Cincy? lol. no.

^ i agree, the impact is debatable. read a good article this afternoon that talked about how even folks associated with the Big 10 think it will be a stretch for them to get the Big 10 network into the NYC market with just Rutgers. Getting the network into the DC/Baltimore cable market is pretty likely with Maryland coming on board, but they admit that Rutgers likely doesn't have the pull to get them much traction in NYC.
11/19/2012 2:52:25 PM
I could see there being something in the Baltimore/DC market. Maryland would definitely be a large chunk of that, particularly in baltimore. I'd guess VT would be half of the overall college sports market in the area. i dunno, i think this money grab for $$ by conferences and individual teams will ultimately hurt college sports as a whole. I envision college football, basketball, and baseball remaining with enough women's sports to conform to Title IX, and all other non-revenue sports being relegated to club level eventually. Colleges simply can't afford the travel for their non-revenue teams with larger and larger distances.FWIW, i'm not unhappy about maryland leaving, specifically. I'm not happy with the overall shifts we've been seeing for the past few years. It doesn't seem like it's going to stabilize anytime soon.[Edited on November 19, 2012 at 3:07 PM. Reason : .]
11/19/2012 3:06:28 PM
we're going to feel really stupid when kids don't even play football in 10 years.
11/19/2012 3:09:46 PM
let's just secede from the union, make the Big IV, and play Wake, Duke, and the holes 3 times a piece for the North Carolina National Championship
11/19/2012 3:18:46 PM
^^^ that's my perspective too. I have no fondness for Maryland, and am not going to miss the match-ups with them particularly. But generally, i don't like the shift towards mega-conferences and am disappointed by this move, as it's simply another indication that that's the reality in college sports today.
11/19/2012 3:38:15 PM
wow just heard they're talking about GT and UVA leaving for the big 10 also
11/19/2012 3:48:20 PM
I heard Carolina and Duke are moving to the Pac 12
11/19/2012 3:56:34 PM
Syracuse are reported to be moving to the Ontario Universities Association (OUA).

i was actually srs
11/19/2012 4:23:11 PM
GT or UVA to the Big 10, not both. That is, if Rutgers is out of the picture.I could see GT jumping. Not UVA.
