Bought a bottle of this the other night. I probably shouldn't have at the price, but I felt compelled. Anyone had it?[Edited on January 13, 2012 at 11:19 AM. Reason : img]

No, but I have a bottle in my cellar, probably going to keep it until my birthday in March. Old Rasputin is rated 100 by itself. Add barrel-aging and it's gotta be like 110 out of 100! lol.
1/13/2012 11:32:31 AM
^, ^^ love that old rasputin so freaking much!! that barrel aged sounds great, i should check it out^^^while in portland, in december, i had my first encounter with the abyss stout at deschutes....might i add that the food they serve is amazing.im hanging out in asheville right now and am doing some drinking...i had an olde hickory black raven ipa and it was pretty good 7/10. also got talked into a wedge ipa, 4/10, no bueno

how long are you there? steer clear of LAB unless they have some dark beers on tap. If you can swing by the Lobster Trap restaurant right when they open it's worth it. It's the home of OysterHouse Brewing and the Moonstone Oyster Stout. so delicious.

Sierra Rye IPA -- not too bitter and not a huge hoppy taste but I like it..
1/14/2012 1:46:09 PM
Damn I was very close to buying a sizer of the Sierra rye but I'm not really in the mood for an ipa, so I went with the Pipeline Porter, yummmmmmI've fallen out of love with IPAs this winter, I'm all about some malty beers - amber/brown ales, porters, stouts
1/14/2012 2:00:49 PM
I don't drink too many IPAs at all anymore. just like hop fade, i got 'interest fade' after the big XIPA, DIPA boom a couple years ago. But i enjoyed a few double RyePAs last night and FS Charlotte has Hopslam on tap today which i might go get a few. but i'm a dark beer whore through and through now.
1/14/2012 2:26:34 PM
I have 2 of these chilling in the fridge (albeit the 2011):Had it on tap at the Olde Hickory Taproom and it was so good, but i can't bring myself to open either bottle

Successful trip to Brawley's in Charlotte:
1/15/2012 2:24:33 PM
^x alot...that Sierra Rye IPA was not my cup of tea. it just failed to deliver on multiple levels IMO. 6/10, maybe because i was pretty drunk and talked my even drunker friend into opening it at 3am. is there a standard rating system in this thread? are we on a 5-star or x/10?
1/15/2012 5:31:03 PM
x/10IMHO, 5-stars isn't enough of a rating.

Had a bottle of Espresso Oak Aged Yeti last night. Damn that's good!
1/16/2012 9:39:07 AM
love that Highland Porter. went to Roth a few weeks ago and tried their mint chocolate stout (they made 2 kegs), which was awesome. much, much better than their regular dark construct stout. very subtle amount of menthol that most people probably wouldn't notice unless they were told. also was fortunate enough to stumble into Big Boss when they had a keg of their bourbon aged bad penny, which was good as well.
1/16/2012 9:45:09 AM
Had some Lonerider Belle Starr the other day which was pretty good, and had a bottle of the 2011 Trader Joe's tonight which was decent.
1/17/2012 2:18:19 AM
^^^^i have wanted to try the Avery mephistpheles for a while, i think the demon-label draws me to it. but coinsidering you put 14 beers ahead of it...im not so sure i would buy it anytime soon.did ya get drunk, damn, haha?!?
1/17/2012 9:07:44 AM
Had the slam of hops at Raleigh Times last night. I must admit, I was pretty sad when the keg died. Got quite a buzz off half the glass with was 10oz. Almost got my hands on some Southern Tier Mokah but they ran out of that too.
1/17/2012 10:39:32 AM
^^It's good, but not really what I was expecting, probably deserved an 8 and the Grand Cru a 9, but I have a sweet tooth and enjoy the malty, caramel, toffee flavors much more than the black bitter malts, and magnum hops in a stout are not my cup of tea, but Mephistopheles' Stout is a highly rated beer, so don't just take my word for it.And I was tasting those beers with 6 other friends, yes, I did get drunk, but not that bad, I still was able to bike home after, luckily I only live like 1 mile from my friends place. It was pretty fun, at some point though I wish it was a smaller number of guys and a smaller number of beers as your palette gets pretty shot after 10 beers, even going light-to-dark, barleywines are hard to compare side-by-side tasting, it was reminiscent of GABF for sure though, lol.[Edited on January 17, 2012 at 2:49 PM. I thought you all might like this pic I found the beer enjoyable in flavor and especially for the fairly high alcohol content would drink again but the price can be a problem.hopefully this worked
1/17/2012 10:38:51 PM
just had the imperial wheat from sam adams
1/18/2012 12:13:31 AM
^^It's party of an annual release, limited number, and part of a 12-year vertical, hence the price.... also that beer would get better with age, I had some Friday night and kept a bottle for aging with my 3 French Hens from last year
1/18/2012 11:48:48 AM
hopslam keg alert in greensboro: on tap at Old Town Draught House!
1/18/2012 3:08:10 PM
had the Red Oak "Black Oak" last night. They call it a dopplebock. I liked it much better than their standard Red Oak, which is too biscuity/toasty for me. Also had a Blue Point Toxic Sludge (Black IPA), which was just OK. Can't say im a fan of Blue Point beers. I've given them a fair chance.
1/19/2012 9:00:57 AM
mendocino imperial stout is very good 8/10. its so silky going down, loaded with coffee and chocolate flava flaves. mmmmm mm. the IPA is good too 7/10. i would compare it to a more robust or beefy Belles IPA...being imperial and all
1/19/2012 9:25:53 AM
clarification: mendocino brewing company out of saratoga springs, NY.
1/19/2012 9:38:44 AM
Hopslam is here...everybody freak out!
1/19/2012 11:31:36 AM
1/19/2012 12:23:48 PM
I think if I had to get blackout drunk in 5 mins to save my life I would choose Hopslam to do it.
1/19/2012 12:32:13 PM
Yeti for me.

did anyone watch "Drinking Made Easy" with Zane Lamprey last night? It was a brand new episode and took place in Asheville. He and Steve traveled to all nine of Asheville's breweries in one day. Pretty awesome.Anyways, next week is less beer centric but it's the Charlotte, NC episode. Wednesdays 8:00 on HDNET
1/19/2012 1:27:24 PM
^ What channel is that?
1/19/2012 3:11:10 PM

1/19/2012 4:02:41 PM
HDNet is 306 on DirecTV. Also, my Tryon rep is telling me we can't get Hopslam for a couple weeks. HORSESHIT

TKE-Teg picked me up a case of this last night- pricy (@ 10 bucks a 4 pack, no discount on the case), but totally worth it to have in my house![Edited on January 20, 2012 at 10:56 AM. Reason : s]

Moo Hoo is pretty awesome, agreed. I need to pick some up next time I see it in the stores.
1/20/2012 11:00:32 AM
i'm a sucker for MooHoo too. haven't seen it out (but haven't been out to search either)
1/20/2012 11:02:45 AM
I think Moo-Hoo is alright...I like the Oatmeal Coffee Stout much better. I also haven't been able to find a lot of that this year either. Did I miss my window?
1/20/2012 11:05:33 AM
he got an email from a 'local' store that I haven't been too yet- supposed to be pretty awesome and apparently they got a lot more of it than they had hoped for, so they didn't mind letting a case go (with what they were expecting, they were only gonna sell 1 4 pack at a time). I've never had it in a bottle, but it was amazing on tap. Gonna let a couple chill and have them at poker tonight!
1/20/2012 11:06:31 AM

Rock Bottom Wooden Bull - Russian Imperial Stout, aged 1-year in Stranahan's Whiskey Barrels (9/10)Rock Bottom Fallen Angel - Belgium Abbey Dubbel (8/10)I love having a quality brewmaster at our local Rock Bottom, 2 free tappings a month usually means at least 4 free pints of quality beer.
1/20/2012 11:10:30 AM
love me some moo-hoo. on my second 4pack already.
1/20/2012 12:14:05 PM
They have moo-hoo in stock at Bottle Revolution. Also all nc beer is 10% off today and all bombers are %15 off. I picked up a bottle of espresso oak aged yeti for $9 after tax.
1/20/2012 5:13:27 PM
Never really understood the hype about Moo-hoo but still want to try a 50/50 of Moo-Hoo and Wake N'Bake.

Becoming a fan of 21st Amendment's beers. Love the packaging. Thought their Black IPA was really good and enjoying the Bitter American at 4.4% alcohol. And is it just me or have some of the Founders' beers been much easier to get ahold of this year (excluding CBS and KBS)? I've seen several cases of their Russian Imperial Stout on multiple visits to Sam's. They also seem to have had a steady supply of Breakfast Stout for months.[Edited on January 21, 2012 at 8:12 AM.
